  1. No worries. I always thought I was doing something wrong because my RAW images were so much softer than my jpegs Like kja said, they retain more information, so there is more room to adjust things within the image whilst retaining the quality. Eg Shooting a bride in a white dress on a sunny day and recovering the highlights. There's not much room for error in a situation like that. That's why I shoot in RAW.
  2. You won't see much of a difference, if anything it will look worse (colour a bit flat, and they look quite soft) - RAW needs processing.
  3. Eighteen 'We were fated to pretend...' -MGMT (Original by MGMT but I do love the cover by Paul Dempsey www.novafm.com.au/video/paul-dempsey-time-pretend-acoustic"]http://www.novafm.com.au/video/paul-dempsey-time-pretend-acoustic"]www.novafm.com.au/video/paul-dempsey-time-pretend-acoustic)
  4. Prefix applications take between 6-9 weeks to process, they all get sent to Dogs VIC for consideration.
  5. KA - just switch it to manual, play for 10 minutes and you will get the hang of it, I promise. It will become second nature. Set your ISO, set your aperture and then play with the shutter speed.
  6. Definitely insure it. If it is just for personal use, you should be able to add it to your contents. It's good that you are getting so much out of it, I understand, I love it too :) I've never really had the chance to do courses etc, but I have had two very talented mentors.
  7. I just shot a wedding in Ballarat, so flew to Melbourne with 2 cameras, 3 lenses, a flash and a tripod :D One camera, 3 lenses, the flash and all my batteries and CF cards were jammed into my Porteen bag and carried on. Second body was packed into bubble wrap in my suitcase and I cushioned my clothes around it, along with the tripod.
  8. Funny that this has come up, because I was just talking about it on FB this morning. My dogs are both crate trained, thank goodness, as they both did damage to themselves at 6 months and had to be crated for 6 weeks. People have strange reactions to the crate in our lounge room, non dog people can't believe that we would put our dogs in a cage. Oh noes! Here are the miserable beasts:
  9. Oops, that will teach me to skim Yay Nikon. Actually, when I bought my D700 recently, Camera Pro informed me that Nikon now offer a 3 year warranty as standard (was previously 1 year). Go Nikon :D
  10. Interestingly, JB Hi Fi are now doing grey imports (online only). I wonder how Canon and Nikon feel about that? http://www.jbhifi.com.au/direct-import/?utm_source=adserver&utm_medium=banner-828x107-JB_AU_20120105_Direct_Import_828x102_828.png&utm_content=JB-AU-Home%2BPage-Content%2BHomepage%2B%236&utm_term=Home%2BPage&utm_campaign=JB-AU-2011%2BDirect%2BImport
  11. The best thing anyone ever taught me about LR was how to 'pick' using P. So look through them in develop, use P to pick the ones to keep and then filter the flagged ones using the box in the bottom right hand corner. So good for lots of images.
  12. Presets are 'recipes' I guess. Combinations of lots of different LR adjustments to apply to your images in one hit. Makes it so much easier for processing a lot of images. Then you can adjust it again, as they are not a one size fits all solution. You can make your own and adjust already existing ones to suit your images more :) The wedding I just processed was done entirely in LR with two presets - one B&W and one colour (colour one by me, b&w was someone elses and adjusted to my taste). Finer details (cloning and sharpening) were done in CS5.
  13. Does this work? http://www.facebook.com/#!/photo.php?fbid=338705136176716&set=a.106212592759306.3561.106204946093404&type=3&theater
  14. I only work with RAW. Culling is a dream in LR too, you will love it.
  15. I see Rocco quite frequently, she is just a busy chicken. She is doing very well with her work and Simon is as cool as ever. Bec is a busy girl too, she has some other news that I'm sure you will find out if you visit her business FB page :D
  16. They are absolutely lovely. They have a teeny tiny store/warehouse in the city and were so very helpful when I bought my D700 and speedlight recently.
  17. Diamonds Based in SA (I think) Camera Pro (Brisbane)
  18. Zoo photography is totally your thing, Tess. You are so very good at it. I am so not a zoo photographer  But I did visit Australia Zoo with Ollie a couple of weeks ago. My photography style leans more towards documentary style, so that's what you get here This reminds me so much of newborn photography  Brolga Rolling with reflection Ollie and the roo Goat Reading And just because...
  19. Nawwww, Hollie! Did you get a new lens? That looks super wide, I love it. Seventeen 'Tell me do you think it'd be alright If I could just crash here tonight...' - Gin Blossoms (Aussie band Kisschasy do a fantastic cover of this song).
  20. I wish there was a 'like' button for your post, JR.
  21. One has the autofocus motor in the lens and one doesn't. I can't remember which is which, obviously the more expensive one has it and the cheaper one doesn't. Only a problem with the entry level models that don't have the motor in the camera. Mine is the cheapy and it does a brilliant job.
  22. Yes :D Just took it for its first wedding run too. It's a thing of beauty  All my images are tack sharp at 100%. I don't think I would have upgraded (or maybe I would have, but it would be pointless really). I can't remember the specs, but I think they are 36 MP? Massive file sizes, especially as I shoot in RAW. It would be overkill for me. It would be handy to have the ability to take movies, but that would be for personal use, I wouldn't use that part professionally. It's a whole lot of camera (both the 700 and 800). I guess it depends on what you are using it for? Lenses - I have the 24mm 2.8, 50mm 1.8 and 105mm 2.8. The 24mm is so very wide on the FX. I did want something wider when I was just using the D300s, but now I don't think I'll bother. I also have the SB900.
  23. Sixteen 'If you are comfortable with two feet on the ground, you don't need wings now...' - Something For Kate
