  1. For wedding receptions/engagement parties, I usually use the 50mm and bounce the flash. There's just not enough light to do it any other way. I usually switch to the 24mm for the group shots.
  2. You can clone stuff out in LR, although I find PS much better for cloning. I mostly like flare though, so I would keep it :)
  3. Twenty 'There is a house, built out of stone Wooden floors, walls and window sills Tables and chairs worn out by all of the dust This is a place where I don't feel alone This is a place where I feel at home 'Coz I built a home For you For me...' - Cinematic Orchestra
  4. She is a sad panda, always. I think I've forgotten what Cakes looks like, it's been so long since I've seen a photo...
  5. I always toggle my focus points.
  6. Thanks Kirislin :) Sometimes I think that courses (from what I've seen) are a bit... stifling. By all means, do one, learn some technical skill, but then break all the 'rules' Keep your creativity. Glad you had a safe trip with the camera, SL.
  7. The bird landing on the giraffe is super cool :D
  8. Sid was having a tanty. He was barking at me because I had his duck
  9. As much as I don't like shooting wide open, I decided to see how far I could push my new camera yesterday (answer: much further than the old one!) - as I am often stuck shooting in quite dark environments where I can't always use the flash.
  10. Gorgeous. So jealous. I went years ago (when I was still at uni). I wish I could go back.
  11. For me, yes just slightly - because there is a slight halo around the bike and the rider. Most people probably wouldn't notice, but I do this sort of processing a lot, so am used to searching for that halo.
  12. It's a trend, like skinny jeans and emo fringes. Like spot colouring and heavy vignetting. Just like fashion has trends, so does photography :) Some peeps like to keep things very traditional looking, others like to experiment a bit.
  13. I like the crop too :) I prefer the 1st edit, rather than the second as it's a bit too yellow for me (but that's just personal preference!).
  14. Is it true Frenchies are really ...um...shall I say...flatulent? A Breeder told me this. Don't know about Frenchies, but Pugs are extremely flatulent (that's such a delicate way of putting it!)! Yes, pugs and frenchies can be. So can staffords, apparently. I barely notice any stink from my guys though and they are fed a raw diet.
  15. Awesome shot, just love it pixie-meg I love the second sofa hog in the background too  Lovely to see Cowboy annie, and glad to hear he is on the mend :) I love this! Very very good :D
  16. Lovely images Helen - now I want it  I must say, the 24mm on my FX camera is so much more fun than it was on the DX. It's like having a new lens.
  17. Yeah, it has texture, but it also has the HDR thing happening. Probably hard to see. In print it's magic. I was watching the awards when it came up last year, and there was a collective gasp in the room.
  18. I love this image (and the processing) so very much:
  19. If you look at previous APPA award winners, a lot of them have that HDR and very dark vibe. But it's (mostly) done well. http://www.appa.aippblog.com/?page_id=1795 Processing for awards is very different to how I'd process client images.
  20. I often worry that I will look back on my images and cringe. But I think that would be the case for most people. At least I have never spot coloured
  21. I find that strange - they are all brachy breeds. Both the frenchie and the boston don't have tails and can both have issues associated with that. My Frenchie is far more robust than my pug.
  22. What makes you think Frenchies have anymore health problems that the other two?
  23. I'd actually say Pugs and Bostons are quite different from each other. There is a huge difference in their shedding too.
  24. I love mitchy! How good is it when you push the iso? And when you zoom in, everything is beautiful and sharp. Love that camera so very much.
  25. Love this pic! What lens did you use MM? Thanks! I used the 28 - 300mm (I think that's it ) on my new Nikon D700 body, it's fairly tightly cropped too :) You got it!! Do you love it? Love doesn't begin to describe it! It's amazing! It is, isn't it? :D
