That's lovely, Vicki. It's magic when you see the light hitting a certain way and scramble to get it  I am shooting for a new personal project on the weekend (modern princesses), so will hopefully have something different to share soon.

The two year old probably won't understand. You just need to try to explain it in clear, honest terms. When Harry was PTS, I told Ollie that he was sick and he had died and that means he is gone now. I'm not really one for heaven, but we said he is up in the sky now with Yogi (in laws dog). Blunt maybe, but it's what his young brain needed as an explanation (he was 4 at the time). He came with me to the vet and we stayed and held Harry while he was PTS, so I think that helped too (even though it was the most heart wrenching thing I've ever done).

We went bowling recently and I took the camera. I loved it so much, I want to shoot some family sessions there - it was awesome!

Advice From People Who've Had New Babies And Dogs - Tension At Hom
huga replied to booge's topic in General Dog Discussion
Does she get any time out by herself at all? Just for a walk or a haircut or a coffee? I know that's what I needed. -
Tlc - yep, the frenchies are bigger and chunkier and the bostons smaller, slighter and leggier. Totally different temperaments too, as you have noticed  Frenchies are very bulldoggy and pig headed, Bostons are very terrier-ish. So far I have used the timer function, I set it on the tripod or something sturdy and usually put something in the spot where I am going to be and focus the camera on that then press the shutter, you have 10 seconds or whatever time your camera allows you to get in position. I have no idea if this is how its meant to be done but it does work. Exactly this. Or manual focus. But after doing 30 selfies so far this year, this is my preferred method :D

Ta. She's a Frenchie, there aren't any fawn bostons :) Yes the remote focuses the camera, however (well, this is what I do, you will have to have a pretty good idea of where the focus will hit so you can make sure it focuses in the right spot.

I have no idea about the wall, I hadn't noticed it. It was a bbq built on the beach though, so who knows? I never crop at joints and I actually tell my clients (when I am directing, mostly I don't) to bend everything that bends. I rarely shoot from above (for dogs) as I don't like floating heads :)

Dog photos - yes. Selfies - no!

You want to see my unedited images??!?!?!?!?!? I know. Sort of like leaving the house without make up on.

It's not too basic! I struggle a bit with portraits, because I am very comfortable shooting in a documentary sort of way. I really need to learn to slow down and look around more too (for crap in the background etc). I had a shoot on the weekend. Probably not a portrait: f/3.5 1/400th ISO 200 More of a portrait: f/2.5 1/250th ISO 200

You have all that camera, you make sure you start telling it what to do ;)
-
Are you letting the camera 'choose' where it focuses? I always toggle mine.
-
And which lens? Just guessing, but it looks darkish, so the shutter speed might have been too slow? Not sure, I've never used anything except manual.

I don't really have the time anymore, but would pop in when I could :)

Wait it out, practice, get better - then you will know what you want :) I am a professional - I shoot weddings and portraits, I have 3 prime lenses and I really don't need anything else (as much as I would like to). I have a 24mm, a 50mm and a 105mm - covers all the bases for me :) I only had the 50mm for about the first 12 months. It teaches you more about getting it right in-camera, IMO. Next time I buy a lens, it will be to upgrade to the 50mm 1.4. I prefer primes, but I am so used to zooming in and out with my feet. Other people hate them. Practice, practice, practice and it will become clear what you need.

I know! I bought some expired film too :D I already have a few film cameras here, so have regular film too.

I have a pug and a frenchie :) By terrier-ish I mean leggy and fast and gutsy. I'm sure someone with one can comment, but these are my observations. We were tempted to get one, but settled on the frenchie instead. I don't like how 'fragile' the bostons look. They are much finer and smaller than I initially thought. I have two young boys and wanted something a bit heavier :) All personal preferences of course. How the frenchie differs from the pug: He is naughtier, he chews stuff, he is more cuddly, he jumps higher, he is far more active and athletic, he sheds way less and he demands a little piece of my heart that the pug never managed to get. Don't get me wrong, I love the pug to death, but the frenchie just has something special about him - as crazy as he drives me. ETA His temperament is flawless and I would even go as far as saying he is bombproof with my kids and wonderful with other dogs. Of course, he is a credit to his wonderful breeder and obviously there are bad examples of every breed. I firmly believe that you need to meet at least a few before deciding that they are for you.

Have you ever seen them in action? I have met a few. They are very, well, terrier-like  Very different from pugs.

Oh man, I wish it was going to be open for my trip to Melbourne! -
Alan! Thirty 'Well you look like my type, So get in line, Take a number and I'll give you a time...' - Kisschasy

My pug doesn't do it, but my frenchie is a licker. He will lick the screen door, the bars of the crate, the floor and the pug (especially in her ears). He often falls asleep sucking on a soft toy too, but that is a very frenchie thing to do.

He certainly is  He grew into his ears and got so much pigment. He is only just starting to fill out now.
