  1. I think it does, Kirislin! :) Tlc, I have almost exactly the same images from bowling  I'll dig some PJ images out.
  2. And ok, I am very shallow and into aesthetics, but look how cute it is!
  3. Yep, ok - I get that. I was referring to outside. Should have been specific.
  4. Woo hoo! Camera is here :D I whipped through a cheapy roll of film today and had it developed because I was desperate to see the result It is tough, letting go of all that control  But I imagine I will learn so much more about thinking before I shoot. Digital makes me lazy. I absolutely must shoot in bright sunlight, which is good, because I don't shoot that way with my normal camera. Looking forward to trying some stuff with flash too :)
  5. I agree, I think the 50mm is fantastic - crop or ff. I don't really understand the thought process. Too close? Easy, take a step backwards :)
  6. I adore space. Love love love it. I often break the 'rules' and upset the old men of photography. I don't care :D
  7. Fantastic explanation - you are good with words, I suck at trying to explain stuff And yes, the manual method has been the best so far. But I am up to week 31, so there has been a lot of trial and error!
  8. I switch to manual because it means the focus stays in the same spot and I don't have to refocus (therefore having to move my broom effort) all the time. I can just push the shutter without the camera hunting - does that make sense? I auto focus to begin with because I find it more accurate than my eyes  Yes, I extended the wall :)
  9. Thirtyone 'Must be good to know people Who know so many people Must be good to be somebody, Good to be somebody They know And the fastest of friends, the fastest of friends I'm sure, we'll all be The fastest of friends, the fastest of friends I'm sure we'll remain..' - Paul Dempsey
  10. Its really cut throat isn't it. Fred Miranda? Is that another forum? Ill google! So simply put with the single point focus, say I want to take a shot of the dogs face, toggle the single point to the eyes if that is what I want to focus on? Yep. Exactly that :)
  11. Ok, for the selfie project. I think someone was asking about focus for selfies. This is my method: Camera on tripod. Set the f/stop etc Set to self timer. Set up something in your position in the image - ie broom. Focus on broom. Switch focus to manual. Press shutter, get yourself into position. Rinse and repeat. This was this afternoons set up (ignore the orange broom, the camera didn't want to focus on the handle because it was too similar to the wall). ISO 1600 f2.5 1/50th of a second (I totally don't recommend starting so wide open, stop down to something like f5.6 - I had no choice because it was getting so dark). And the final product:
  12. You'll need to shoot manually for it to work.
  13. Nope, no tripod. If you are shooting super wide open, they won't look sharp (it will only be sharp in one little spot). Otherwise, is your shutter speed fast enough?
  14. Sid hits the deck when I put his collar on for a walk. Hates it, but gets excited for the walk. Has Never Been hit in his life, I think it's more to do with coming over the top of his head. They all have their quirks.
  15. Looks like focus is on the ball, not on her face. Have you figured out the focus points yet? Sorry, I get so anal about focus
  16. Theses are mine: f2.8 with the 105mm (not wide enough). Doesn't look any different to a normal photo, except for the dodgy patchwork fence. Not successful either, f2 with the 50mm.
  17. Yep, you can most definitely use it. It will give more of a point and shoot look to the photos though.
  18. Sometimes, it is simply too dark. You are pushing your camera to its limits (which is fine, I do it all the time). But there's not much further you can push it without flash.
  19. It's fine if that's what you like. I like more sharpness :)
  20. Oh yes, white dogs. Who on earth would have one of those?
  21. Eh? I worked with a crop sensor for two years before upgrading. I prefer the full frame now that I have one. The crop is my back up. I like the quality of the FF. I often shoot in low light situations - clients houses, hotel rooms and churches. Everything looks better on the full frame compared to the work I have in similar situations on the crop sensor. I did not mean to imply that crop sensors are crap and I don't believe I did. Just because I prefer one over the other, doesn't make my second choice crap. I wouldn't shoot on crap. I honestly don't know what else to say  If it comes across as snobby, then I apologise. Do I need to add a disclaimer that this is my opinion only? *this is my opinion only*
  22. Not at all. You won't miss what you've never had :) This is my business, quality is everything to me.
  23. Is there such thing as equivalent FX and DX? I don't know. I have a D300s and a D700, so pretty damn close. And you're right, it's not something to worry about (for most people), but tlc was just asking a question :)
  24. Ok. Well I have both and quite simply, the quality is amazing. I can tell without pixel peeping.
  25. I've tried and failed at this method. It's really hard. You truly need to shoot at 1.4 or 1.8 to see the effect. Have you tried it yet, Gapvic?
