I use both. LR for ease of importing, culling and batch editing (a wedding is generally 1000+ RAW images). PS for finer stuff like cloning and slight tweaking here and there. I wouldn't be without either, but it's a necessity for me - not so much if you're just starting out and only taking a few shots here and there :)

Well, technically you don't need to. But if you feel like trying something else, you can always download a trial of lightroom.

I use Lightroom, edit the RAW and then export as a jpg. I've just had a try with iphoto - it's pretty clunky and cumbersome, but I guess it just depends on what you want out of it.

For sure. I could be a weirdo that way. I tend to learn by doing :) Second shooting weddings actually, and I was very lucky to have the opportunity to do it that way.

Of course it does. I only had the most basic understanding, notes on the back of my hand. ISO lets in more or less light, enabling the shutter speed to be faster or lower, which controls whether things are sharp or blurry. Little f stop numbers mean less is in focus and there is more light getting let in (allowing a faster shutter speed), higher f stop numbers mean the opposite. Understand that and the rest will come :) Try, try and try again until it becomes second nature. I think it's getting over thought.

Everyone already knows my thoughts on this subject. Recently I just started shooting my shelter animals in jpeg (because of the stupid file sizes on my new camera). They take me longer to edit, the wb is never quite right (especially in black or white animals) and for some reason, they need heaps more contrast. It's frustrating and I really don't like it. As a wedding photographer, I don't want to spend forever editing each image individually, especially when I have 500 to get through. Obviously I shoot manual and always have. It doesn't slow me down at all - I set the iso and only change the aperture and shutter speed as needed. Often i shoot with quite a shallow DOF and will stop down in the next few frames because I'm shooting more than one person etc and they're positioned in different focal planes. I wouldn't ever trust the camera enough to shoot exactly how I wanted, just like how I'd never let it choose which focus point to use, that's the best part of owning good gear - using it to your advantage because you can. I'm always trying to improve. Always. Using an auto setting kind of puts a ceiling on that. But again, if it suits you - there's no reason to change.

Prints will depend on many things, but mostly the accuracy of your monitor (and therefore your editing) and the quality and calibration of the printer. (it actually looks good here, I tend to go for slightly darker though).

I have my old Porteen one for my back up and a Kelly Moore Chapel for my main - I wanted a back pack that didn't look like a back pack.

I think Sid must have a Hurrta knock off. I just picked it up at Pet Barn. He wore it in between runs during his ET last year.

I guess they all get used to whatever the climate is. I live on the Sunshine Coast and the last few nights have dropped to around 7 degrees and I have coated the dogs. Sid loves it, he jams his head through it as soon as he sees it. Lola isn't the biggest fan - but she's also the one with the double coat. Sid barely has any fur. They sleep inside at night (crated on tiles), but when I put them out in the morning, it is still really cold and the backyard barely gets any sun. So I kept Sid's coat on him until it warmed up a bit.
