Sorry to hear about Wags GB.

If your lab/kelpie has only just come to you, and she hasnt been taught to toilet properly, then you will need to educate her. Is she an inside dog? If so, you will need to take her out on her leash for regular toilet breaks, preferably to the same spot in the garden, and wait for her to wee/poo etc. Praise her immediately. Take her out straight after her meals as well, and always to the same spot..you can use a phrase such as "Go Wees" "Toilet time" everytime as well, that way she will get used to going and dont forget the praise, lots of "Good Girl" etc.

Sorry, but that is a long time for a dog, let alone a pup. The other thing that really concerns me is that your taking a 13 week old puppy (who wouldnt be fully vaccinated yet anyway) for a 45 minute run around the oval? Thats too much exercise for a puppy, they recommend some free play and very short slow walks at that age ( I had to walk mine around the backyard for leash training because she couldnt go for a walk on the ground until 16 weeks due to not being fully vaccinated).

When Couches Go Bad!
Animal House replied to RealityBites's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Lucky your Dobe was on guard, I would hate to think what would have happened if their had been a 3 seater as well!! That one legged teddy could have been related to the collectable Teddy's on show that the (guard dog) Dobe attacked a few months back in the USA or the UK..it was on the tv!! You just cant trust a Teddy. -
Sending positive vibes for Diesel. They are tough little critters, and quite cute too.

Help! Fitting Dog.. Goodbye Sweet Daisy Girl
Animal House replied to openarms's topic in Rainbow Bridge
Daisy looked like a real snuggly girl, she was lucky to have you as her "mum" for 12 months. Run free Daisy :D -
Please dont let your friend hit the dog and take its food away for growling, this will lead to him not trusting humans and guarding his food even more. She needs a qualified behaviourist/trainer to come out and show her what to do. Why did they get a Rotti when they have 7 kids under 12......just curious, not trying to flame or anything.

Could she be scared of the plaster on your leg? Or maybe shes just picking up on all the anxiety you have been through (with your bro being sick etc?). Just a thought. :D Maybe she doenst like change, with you being home etc. Hope it gets sorted soon, these staffies are temperamental little creatures.

Not always, excitement urination is not uncommon in young dogs and is generally comething they grow out of as they get older. Either way it is important that you do not punish your pup for this, just remove him from the area and clean it up. If it is excitement, try to avoid the circumstances and getting him too excited at those times. Yep, excitement and submission is usually the cause, my staffy girl used to do it when she met other dogs in the street, people, my son after school.....she will even do it now when she meets a new playmate in the street (if hes a hot looking doggie ) and shes nearly a year old. But it is pretty rare these days, after about 6 months old, she didnt do it much at all.

Lovely looking JR girls you have there. Proper training, socialisiation, good feeding and lots of love for the next 15 years....enjoy. Just make sure you arent taking them for walks (on the ground) until there 2nd vaccination kicks in.
-
Dont take her out on the ground until shes fully vaccinated though.
-
What a gorgeous girl she is.

Good luck then, its a bit of trail and error sometimes (just like with kids)

Excellent and exciting for both new doggie owners. Enjoy those special puppy cuddles. ETA - piccies of the new pups when your ready please

I dont think shes allowed to be out on walks yet is she? (thinking she wouldnt be fully protected by vaccinations until 16 weeks?) Maybe a small (dogsafe) fluffy toy would help out if shes missing doggie company, if she cant have playmates yet. Does she ever get really excited? Like at puppy school etc? Has she always been a laid back "bored" kinda puppy, or is a recent behaviour? How long have you had her? Maybe shes still getting used to you, being out of a pack (litter mates) etc. Lots of praise, encouragement, and not too long on the training sessions as shes a pup and she doesnt have a big attention span (sort of like toddlers  ) I guess most pups/dogs and even kids get excited when visitors arrive, so dont worry too much that you and your partner are boring her.

How long is she in her crate for? Being let outside twice a day for play isnt much at all for a 12 week old puppy what does she do for the rest of the day? Shes looking to you for enjoyment, and you are ignoring her by the sounds of it. Can you take her outside and just sit while she explores, give her some (uncooked) bones to chew on, or a rawhide bone. Puppies learn to play, to enjoy, maybe your just not encouraging her with your voice etc? Can you try to bond a bit with her. She might be a laid back puppy, but theres no reason for her to be whiney, unless shes trying to tell you something?

If you want a boxer, please buy from a registered and reputable breeder. Depending on your state, their are breeders listed here on DOL, and they can answer all your questions for you. The link for boxer breeds (which includes puppy listings) is here: http://www.dogzonline.com.au/breeds/community/boxer.asp Seems there are 12 puppy listings from breeders. ( see right hand side of the page) Good Luck with your puppy hunting, and please dont buy from a BYB or a pet shop.

Glad to hear your pup is doing much better now.

Such great news, been following his story, and Im so pleased hes doing well. :D

Glad your OH called the vet, but do keep a close eye on her, they can go downhill very fast when their puppies. Hope she recovers soon.

Hi again, Is the puppy pre-school at the vets? They can easily pick up any bug, even a gastric upset. Is her poop very smelly or bloody? Is it watery? (signs of parvo) The main danger with diarrohea is dehyrdration (loss of fluids) and this can cause death. My pup was 12 weeks old (never been anywhere where she could pick up a bug) and had the runs for a day, took her to the vet and she spent 48 hours on the drip, thankfully it wasnt parvo, but a gastric bug, & she went downhill pretty quickly. Im not sure about Turkey being too rich, was it fresh or cooked? I would stick to bland food, boiled rice mixed with a tiny bit of cooked potatoe or pumpkin etc, but your pup should see a vet to make sure.
