  9. Rip Rambo How awful to be poisoned, I cant believe how cruel some humans are. :
  10. THanks for the replies, its all very interesting to read the different points of view, ive decided to go with the Prey model diet, as that is easier and more natural (I feel) for the dogs.
  11. My dogs (Staffy and a mixed muttley ) are currently fed raw meaty bones, dry food and occasional egg/sardines. I feed a handful of dry in the morning, and the rmb etc at night. Im not happy with their coats, and general look of health, so want to switch over to Barf. I need a basic easy recipe to make a Barf mix, and also how much of this to feed, and do I still feed RMB as well? Thanks in advance, and I only have a basic food processor.
  12. Is Sophie the little one in your picture there? I wouldnt put a laundry basket over her, just keep her in her bed, somewhere warm, I doubt she will want to run around at all, and dont worry about her eating tonight, most dogs dont want to eat the same day, and if they do, they mostly throw it back up. Keeping her quiet means her not running and jumping all over the place. Try a little later with a small bowl of water, I still wouldnt offer her any food tonight. She will be sleepy and groggy and just want to rest. Im sure she will be feeling a lot better tomorrow.
  13. I would wait to see what the vet said. Sounds like Harry has an obsessive form of licking anything, (probably OCD, a nervous condition) is he a stressed dog? Also, the diet you are feeding isnt the best. There is no raw food, nothing to clean their teeth on (bones, dry food) etc. They have you wrapped around their paws, and they know it. Stop treating them like kings and queens, and treat them like dogs, they will be happier and healthier for it.
  14. Have you got your lab girl desexed yet? I think I read elsewhere she was going into her 2nd season, or maybe Im mixed up about that. Are you going to get this pup desexed before he becomes driven by his instincts? At 19 you might think you know it all, but I can tell you now, you never stop learning. I would be very worried at a pup that was growling, and the fact he seems to have stopped in a day makes me more worried.
  15. Please dont smack your puppies, its not doing them any good, they dont understand our human ways. (not that I agree with human smacking anyway) Give them a chew toy instead, and praise them when they chew on that. Ignore the biting, turn away from them so they arent getting your attention, give a loud "yelp" and if they are still doing it, time out straight away for 5 mins in a separate room. Puppies need to mouth, bite things, so provide lots of chew toys, kongs etc. Smacking them will only confuse them.
  16. I would post this in the breeders section, you would get more replies there, hopefully someone else has been through it and can help you.
  17. Joypod, you've been taking him out for walks etc from 8 weeks on? :D Hes a small pup, he can still do his socialising being carried until hes fully vaccinated. I wouldnt take him to the Vic markets either, way too full on for a pup. I carried my staffy (and she wasnt lightweigh ) everywhere for socialising, meeting people, getting used to trains, etc, or had her on my lap for a outdoor cafe. I must say I think you've been darn lucky that he hasnt caught anything but Gastrto with all the risks you took. :D
  18. Glad to hear all is okay so far. Puppies tummies dont adapt to diet change very well, so if you need to change their feed to something else, try to intoduce it over a week, to give them time to adapt. Boiled chicken and rice is great for upset tummies, my girl had the runs/vomiting and quickly dehydrated when she was 11 weeks old. I panicked and thought Parvo, but the vets tests confirmed it was a type of gastro bug, still frightened the life out of me though. (she was at the vets for 12 hours on a drip and cost me a small fortune ;)) Hope the little one picks up by tomorrow. PS Try Biozet for the carpet stains, or white vinegar (test a small patch of carpet first in case).
  19. Good idea, they can test her too if it turns out to be Parvo, or whatever illness it turns out to be. Good luck, try to keep her hydrated on the journey there (small sips of water etc).
  20. Yes, would help if we knew which part of melbourne, so we can direct you to a vets thats open. It really is urgent that the dog is seen now.
  21. Straight off the to vet (emergency vets are open). Two days of diarrohea is one day too much, please get her in asap, she will be dehydrated as well. Parvo is about in Melbourne, so could well be that, in any case, a vet is needed today.
  22. I would highly recommend "The Perfect Puppy" by Gwen Bailey. Read it before you get a pup, its like the puppy owners bible.
