  1. Thank you Katrina. That is very kind of you to think of me and CPR. Contact has been made. Cheers.
  2. BUMP - both of these dogs are still desperately looking for homes or foster care..... PLEASE NOTE this is NOT the Eric mentioned in the current other dog looking for a home thread.
  3. Eric needs rehoming because he has found he can now climb, jump or go through his current owners homes fences. There was a rabbit next door and my gut feeling is this has sparked the whole thing . We know he cannot get over 6 foot colourbond - fence replacement is not an option for his current owner though. Gypsy is also in a similar predicament. There is a cat next door and recently she got over the fence and chased the next door neighbours cat and little dog inside. She is getting over now consistently despite modifications also. She is high energy and is getting plenty of exercise as far as I have been informed but perhaps not enough mental stimulation. She is very agile and alert and possibly would be good for agility or even a worker (nb this is not a qualiifed opinion - this would need to be investigated further by suitably qualified/exerperienced people). In both cases, living in a property away from furry temptations (no chooks, cats, rabbits) etc is possibly an option because neither does it to take off, more just the challenge and fun of it and both like hanging out with people. 6 foot colourbond is also an option for suburbia also. Both are house-trained, dog social, have some training and are fully vetworked. If you would like to know more or can help anyway, please contact me asap. I would like to avoid either dog going into DAS and on an urgent DAS thread in the near future if I can thanks.
  4. Gypsy is an affectionate 1.5 year old heeler x female who is desperately seeking a new home. She enjoys nothing better than following her people around and getting pats and tickles when she can. She appears house-trained and behaves quite nicely inside, is generally not destructive or a nuisance barker and walks quite well on lead. She is incredibly smart, agile and full of exuberance for life and could possibly be a candidate for agility if her adoptive family were interested in dog sports. She would do well in an active home willing to continue her training, provide her will regular daily exercise and include her as part of the family. She generally gets along well with other dogs but would be happiest in a home of her own where her special family can spoil her rotten.
  5. Eric is an affectionate 1.5 year old medium sized boy desperately seeking a new home. He is a gentle soul who being in the company of friends, both human and canine. He adores people and seeks out attention whenever he can, particularly if he thinks there might be a cuddle or a belly rub on offer. Eric has basic obedience, walks well on a lead, sits nicely for his food, shakes hands, rolls over, etc, is toilet trained and is very well behaved indoors. Eric prefers to be outside during the day where he can explore and soak up the sun, but prefers to sleep inside at night on his rug. He is fine with other dogs, playing and socialising nicely with all he meets. While he would make a good doggy playmate, Eric is likely to be fine on his own provided he is given regular daily exercise and included as part of the family. He is very loving and eager to please and will make an exceptional canine companion for a lucky family.
  6. Hi all, These two dogs are currently with their respective adoptive owners but are on borrowed time. Eric - medium xbreed male and Gypsy - heeler x female. Both are around 1.5 years or less old. They are both full vetworked and desperately looking for new homes or foster carers/rescue. Details are below for each of them. If you can help please contact me asap on 0401 347 058. Andrea.
  7. I don't think I've seen it yet and surprised no-one has listed it yet: Favourites: Short-haired MUTTS, mixed breeds, crossbreeds - particularly medium and large boofy types, love brindle colouring (NB I do not advocate crossbreeding but being in rescue its what I see 99% of the time) Would love to have: Most bullbreeds - particularly American Bulldog (new favourite - have met several I've really fallen for) and English or American Staffordshire Bull Terrier (that smile is to die for) and most large gentle giants - Dane, Bullmastiff, English Mastiff..... one day hopefully....sigh Unlikely to have: Long or medium-haired breeds of any size (honest enough to know I'm not big on grooming) or small breeds in the near future (just not set up for them) but I have loved many indiviudal dogs and breeds that would fit either category, just not right for my home situation/lifestyle Least favourite: Cannot simply generalise to a particular breed - while some traits are inherent, some are not. Many of the things I don't like in some dogs are a result of their training/socialisation/life experiences or lack thereof, not their breed.
  8. None that I have personally would have love to have kept (and like many have cried over for days) but know it would have been selfish to keep them given what wonderful homes they would have missed out on. The ones I used to regret were the ones I have not been sure about and thinking I wasn't comfortable with the rehoming but couldn't quite put my finger on what was wrong or justify stopping the adoption. They have come back shortly thereafter. Doesn't happen anymore though - I trust gut instinct and years of experience to tell me if I am really uncomfortable with the rehoming despite not being able to put my finger on why, it just doesn't go ahead now. Luckily the only ones I really regret now are the homes that seem perfect at the outset and I hear about this animal in desperate need later on and sometimes not in the condition they were given in and they don't necessarily contact me to offer the animal back to me either - I only find out about it later on. Luckily these are very rare (at least that I know of) and you would hope so. As much as we tell people to contact us should one of our animals ever be in need again you cannot make people do the right thing once the animal has left your hands.
  9. Hi everyone, I have the following available to any rescue animals needing it: *Hills l/d feline hepatic support biscuits (most of a small bag) - suitable for cat only *Denosyl (around 10-20) tablets - liver support/treatment - suitable for cat or small dog *Ursodiol (at least 10 tablets) - liver support/treatment - helps with bile elimination - suitable for cat or small dog *Prednisilone (5-10 tablets) - corticosteroid - suitable for cat or dog - dose would vary if dog not small *Liver support chinese herbal mixture - medication and gelatine capsules - would need to give you contact of the wholistic vet (who is a normal vet also) to see if appropriate treatment for your case also and dose needed I do have antibiotcs and milk thistle but they can be used foster animals in care currently or in the near future. I can also use the hills biscuits on my normal cat if no-one else wants them (will do no harm) but hate to waste speciliased biscuits if someone is already having to buy them. If you are already under vet prescription for any of the above drugs for a dog or cat and are buying them anyway, please feel free request them. They have already been dispensed so can't be returned and I would hate to see them wasted as there is over $100 worth of food/tablets there that could help an animal that needs it. Please feel free to cross post to other forums including cat forums. Andrea 0401 347 058 (evenings or weekend please)
  10. I am IT challenged so am probably the last who should be responding but what I normally do is right click the picture and send to "mail recipient" when my carers send me photos too large to use (regularly over 1 megabyte) and it gives you the option to make it smaller there - once it attaches to an email I save that new photo as a jpeg and then attach it instead. Hope this works for you.
  11. To the OP, Please change the title of your thread - it is ONE rescue group NOT many rescue groups that is mentioned in this article. Just like the article itself clearly has an agenda regarding desexing which has nothing to do with the poor management practices of these particular dogs and the resulting attack, it is also poor form to falsely title this thread suggesting many rescue groups feel the same way as this one isolated group expressing their opinion. I am a rescuer. I don't want the breeding gene pool to dry up or go underground through overzealous licensing and desexing requirements. But what I would love to see is every animal microchipped at the point of sale regarless of source (which is compulsory in most places anyway now) and every animal leaving an animal pound or shelter chipped AND desexed if not already (unless purebred - should already be chipped - and returned to its original owner). That would be a good start if all shelters around the country had this imposed and microchipping laws were enforced. Andrea.
  12. Ditto what Lola said - please discuss this with your neighbour asap and block off any access. You don't know if your dog has had enough of this already or when he will have. I have also had a beautiful dog "ruined" by feral children (yes these were) - thanks to them he will never have the life and opportunities he could have had.
  13. I have used several kennels and a cattery in/around ACT myself but my pets, as most people's would be, are happiest and cope best at home. I could instead highly recommend two great pet care services who do home visits. While clearly visists alone wouldn't be enough for Bosco, some pet sitters actually do overnight stays and I know one of these two do - PM me if you want this contact. I'm sure there are others that do this also if you do some digging around. Don't forget about Don't Fret Pet too - I think they actually care for your dog in their own home with their animals too and match animals with carers - you could try for a carer who was home full-time so Bosco wasn't left alone . I don't have experience with their services as not something I was after but something else to look into.
  14. What a beautiful dog and lucky family: http://now.msn.com/now/0509-dog-saves-owner.aspx
  15. What a beautiful dog and lucky family: http://now.msn.com/n...aves-owner.aspx I'm also posting to in the news also - good PR is hard to get these days...
  16. Thanks dogmad - wasn't sure of breed - he looked a bit big for a JRT but photos are deceptive and I haven't seen him in the flesh. Jill can you help him?
  17. Hi all, This poor old boy needs help - a rescuer in Griffith has been attending to this dog but he really needs out of there asap. I don't have any other information - presuming no other family can help. Please contact Cheryl if you can help him/want further information - Cheryl 0421476205. "I go to the elderly people who own Bobby. One of the owners has dementia and the other one is terminally ill. Bobby is 6 years old, desexed. Loves kids, not keen on cats or other male dogs. He is lonely and bored as he is just left in the backyard 24/7. He spends his time playing with the walnuts that fall from the trees in the yard."
  18. Hoping you've got a taker by now but I'll have a look what I have at home....think I only have small and large but will get back to you. Not sure I will be of any assistance but worth a look. Cheers.
  19. I have Nuscha if you are interested - she is a whippet x - slightly taller/thicker than pure whippet but not by much - very people focussed and would need to be around her people/inside a fair bit - doesn't like being left alone or missing out - none of the photos we have been able to get do her justice - they make her look bigger than she is: http://www.petrescue....au/view/153767
  20. All good - I don't think we will be seeing him back again. :)
  21. Fergus had a sleepover last night (not something we normally do but it was apparently love at first sight) - it appears a match made in heaven but I will wait for final verdict. Fingers crossed.
  22. Just when you wonder why you keep doing this all - along comes updates like these - they really keep you going. Great home. Great save. Lucky Sam!
  23. Fergus is now up - here he is :) http://www.petrescue.com.au/view/153553
