  1. Thanks CBL...but I dont think you have your priorities in order...surely DOL comes before work?!!!! Will definitely try the spray bottle approach Ruth
  2. Thanks Showdog. I find it very frustrating because I also have 2 frustrating skin kids to deal with also. I feel like that has prevented me from bonding with Sasha like I had hoped I would. As a kid the dog I had was my best friend...but I guess Sasha will be MY kids' best friends...so not sure what my relationship with Sasha will end up being, or is supposed to be! Anyway...that was a complete tangent... I have no idea how to get her to stay. She sits 80% of the time when i tell her, but the stay thing is a tough one. She seems to be incredibly clever and stubborn. Cant imagine thats an easy combination!! At the moment she is recovering from her desexing op, so she is probably more bored than usual. But I am not used to her being inside so much. And avoidance isnt really the solution. I cant keep her outside rather than deal with the jumping up. So I will hang out till obedience starts again and like you suggested Showdog, make a note of the positive and negative things so I am clearer on what I want to get out of obedience for her Ruth
  3. Tell me about it! Feels like we spend more money on Sash than anyone else in the family at the moment! Thanks for your advice Hvae a great weekend! Ruth
  4. excusing my ignorance on the details....just water in it or something alittle more interesting? And do i spray at her, or the counter? I remember reading something like that anyhow Thanks Ruth
  5. Hi Jen Sorry to butt in here...but we are using Royal Canin for Sasha - puppy formula i think for breeds up to 25 kg (which Sasha will prob more, she is 22 now at 6 mths)at adult weight - this was on advice from pet supplies place. What is your opinion on that? SHould we switch over when it i sfinished? (prob about another 2 mths, we bought a huge bag - cant bear the thought of wasting it) Thanks Ruth
  6. hi Our GOlden retriever Sasha is now 6 mths, and when inside spends the majority of her time in the family room - this is a large tiled area - dining table, kitchen area and tv area. Problem is, I cant seem to stop her jumping up at the table to lick the table and see what crumbs she can find, and also in the kitchen she jumps up and licks whatever was on the chopping board. We growl no at her, and sometimes I grab her and put her confined in the laundry (ie with a baby gate stopping her from getting out but can see and hear us). Both my husband and I have once lightly smacked her out of frustration but prefer not to do that. We did puppy school, and began obedience but only got 2 weeks in before the xmas break. I tihnk obedience starts up agian in 2 weeks...but does anyone have any advice in the meantime? And also, it just feels like she will NEVER learn to listen...even in the obedience classes it felt like an uphill battle. What is the best way to deal with something like this that we REALLY dont want her to do. Thanks Ruth
  7. same here kittyhawklee...i use ACV in Sasha's food and we have charming circles of "burnt" grass...I also put yogurt in 2-3 times a week. would love to find a cheap solution to the problem
  8. hi i also have a 4 mth old GR and i have been told that a 10-15min walk is enough. not sure about how often - am hoping a more knowledgeable DOLer will help us both!! Ruth
  9. thanks for the responses. Sasha certainly crunches on them, i can her her chomping on the bones so she doesnt swallow them whole, it just only takes her maybe 10 seconds and its gone. Now that I have seen how Sasha demolishes them, it mademe chuckle to think that Roxiekda's pom's take all night to eat just one!!!! eta: Greentea that must have been pretty scary for you AND Henry...certainly a heads up for those dogs that go the gobble without the crunch. I would freak out if that happened to us. Thanks for sharing that. Ruth
  10. Oh Jenny I know...I have been slack havent i? if you know the absolute chaos that is in my house these days...you would forgive me! ;) I am halfway there though...i have now GOT photos of Sasha on my laptop so all i have to do is find the time to post them!!!! hopefully tomorrow. Ruth
  11. hi there I just gave our new 9 wk old goldie pup 2 chicken necks this morning for the first time. Here I was thinking it would take her 10 minutes to get through them...but she gobbled them up in 2 seconds flat. I then gave her breakfast. Is that too much? can chicken necks replace a meal or are they just for a snack? since she loved them so much can i giv them to her on most days ? thanks RUth
  12. Hi Jenny We have called her Sasha. ANd funnily enough she already looks like a Sasha!!! I agree with you on the pet mince, I could never give that to my dog. I was actually a sctrict vegetarian for about 13 yrs , now i eat chicken and seafood, but the things they put in there is pretty yuck. Sasha is starting off with the good stuff - I had some in the freezer!!! Ruth
  13. Huntinhound thats such an interesting website isnt it. I have that bookmarked on the other computer. Thanks for the link Ruth
  14. Thanks you guys, youve cleared a few things up for me. Appreciate the quick responses too....after all it IS puppy dinner time!!! Ruth
  15. We picked up our new pup today! 8 week old golden retriever.. The breeder has been feeding her supercoat puppy dry food with some raw mince mixed in...at a ratio of 3 parts supercoat, 1 part mince. I have read in many places that raw meat is the way to go....but my husband's brother says that raw meat can have stuf fin it that can be a health risk to the pup, and therefore our kids, so we shouldnt feed her raw meat. Can anyone enlighten me on this? Thanks Ruth
