Aww they're so cute! Are they moving around much yet? I woke up to puppy squeals this morning. They tend to squeal when Mango gives them a clean. Such a sweet little noise to wake up to

Naww cute!

How exciting Good luck with all those puppies! :D

Good luck Cavalblaze!!

Mango hasn't eaten much since she had pups. Sardines or Salmon seem to get her appetite up.

Thanks all, I am so very proud :D The little one has put on 6g in one day, and the bigger one 16g in a day. Quite a difference!

Sorry about the belated update, I have been busy! And my sister has been here Soooo Prydenjoy welcomes TWO adorable little tri bitches into the world Born at 8:10pm and 9:30pm Sunday 19th July. Mango was a good girl and waited for my sister, who as I've mentioned is a vet nurse, to arrive, and started having puppies an hour later! Didn't have any scales when they were born, but bought some the next day and the first itty bitty one weighing in at 85g, and the second at 132g. I was hopeless, especially with the first, who took quite some time to get moving and breathing properly, as I paced the house, shaking nervously and just saying "Is it ok? Is it ok??", while my sister rubbed and rubbed and shook it down to get the gunk out and clear the airways. She got there though, didn't turn blue in the mouth or anything, just gasped for around 10 minutes. Both are wriggly and healthy though and I have been assured the little one will catch up to number two!! Mango is a great mum. Went to the vet the morning after for a shot of sytocin to make sure she'd passed all of the afterbirth (we didn't see it, but she cleaned very vigorously when each pup was born so there is a good chance she did eat it). The vet was impressed by everything, didn't have any concerns for anyone. So, yay!!! Unfortunately I don't have any photos to share here (only on facebook), as I can't get them from my phone to my computer

Wow, what a fat Cav!!! Still no puppies here, they're due tomorrow but I was convinced they'd come early. Looks like she's content holding onto them a while longer...

Mango's temp is down between .5 and 1 degree. She only ate half of her breakfast this morning. Thinking puppies might not be too far away

Thank you, my first Papillon's prefix is "Joytoy", I didn't even realise the connection until after it was approved. I used "Pryde" as I was in Ryde when I was thinking of prefixes Good luck with the puppies!

as long as master 7 is prepared to take his share, oh, lets say 90 of them Wasn't there a Simpsons episode on that?? Mango is doing well. Doing some deadly farts but other than that she's great, eating lots, happy in her little "den" (she'll have the puppies in my room, I've set up a pen etc for her which she has very much settled in to). I've been taking her temperature 3 times a day just to get an idea of her natural rhythms, they drop 1 degree before they give birth, is that correct? It'll be any day now, I've heard it isn't uncommon for Papillons to have pups 5 days early, well 5 days is today, she doesn't look like she's about to have pups, but they were giving me a few big strong kicks today! I'm very excited, yet trying to stay focused on study for my exam on Friday. My sister is coming up on Saturday and I'm hoping Mango will hold out until then, because Claire is a vet nurse and just having her here will relax my nerves on the big day! Oh and my prefix certificate arrived today, Prydenjoy, I'm very happy with that :D

Silly me, I forgot I even posted this Thanks all, I'd have to register the pups with Dogs NSW, already checked into that. I think it's 3 months before pups have to be registered with a council, so I'll have until then to sort out the permit etc. I don't even know where I'm going to be living yet!

OK so I'm waiting to hear back from Dogs NSW about what my prefix is going to be. Since mating Mango I've applied to UQ, been offered a place, and am moving up in 6 weeks, when the puppies will be about 4 weeks old. When I applied for my prefix here I did the exam etc, which stated that, as a registered breeder, there wasn't a limit on how many dogs you could own, as long as they were all cared for etc. What are the regulations in QLD? Also, when should I transfer my registration over to QLD, before I move? After the puppies have been registered? Before?

Congrats on the litters. I got Mango x rayed today as she was off her food and I wanted to check for any obstructions etc. Thankfully, no obstruction, and I got to see one clear little puppy in there, possibly another. She is between 6 and 7 weeks. I'm hoping there may be another hiding in there somewhere but even two would be great. Our very first litter, I'm so excited

Sad but tru Tru thor dare

Good topic, i myself was wondering when to introduce bones

GN, I like your thinking! I'm assuming the deposit is something small, just enough to "weed out the timewasters". And if they're getting regular updates etc then it is money well spent (plus it would be taken off the price of a pup?). This thread has been very helpful to me, thanks all

Wow, that is very rude. I find I always contact my dogs breeders time and again just to let them know how the dogs are going. I know I would want the same consideration shown to me with any pups I sold! And no, I wouldn't consider it bugging if someone passed something they loved and cared for to me and followed up with a phone call to see how it was going....

Thanks toy dog. I'm trying to decide what I'll do when the time comes, whether I'll desex the pups before selling them, or just to carefully screen new homes etc. That's given me a lot to think about Of course, Paps are like Chi's, only having a few pups per litter, so I should only ever have to worry about finding up to two or three homes at a time. I'm a dog trainer, so am all for conditioning pups to the show ring, or family home alike ;)

Very cute dogs you have tommygirl I can say it works both ways unfortunately, with breeders promising pups and then deciding to sell them to someone else at the last minute after emailing photos etc, which is very disheartening when you have your mind set on a pup. Do any of you take deposits on pups? Why/why not? Sorry if it's a little off topic, but I think it's relevant to what has been said

Thank you for the information Toy Dog. I had a brief look at your web page and you have some excellent information on puppy farmers. It's a sad world we live in that we have to be so very cautious about what evil deeds people may use our beloved puppy's for. So many people don't see the problem with breeding dogs, and even those you aren't farmers would potentially decide to have "just one litter" from their pet. Desexing before sale is a good way to avoid that, but then how do you ensure adequate socialisation and early training etc? There is so much for a young pup to learn when it goes to its new home, and with the critical socialisation period lasting up until 16 to 18 weeks it's so very important for puppies to learn to be resilient to new experiences in this time. Do you have a socialisation program that you use with your puppies?

That's a bit scary. So other than desexing pups before they are sold, how can one be sure that a pup sold on limited register wont be bred from? Is it all a matter of being a good judge of character when questioning potential buyers?

I see. Hmm I'll take her to the vet on Friday and sort something out.

Where would I get that Becks? What exactly is it?
