  1. Hi spikey, Our golden retriever has been very much the same as your pup. She has been a very itchy scratchy dog since about 3 mths of age (wasn't b4 that strangely??). We did all those silly skin tests as well. She used to scratch furiously under her armpits until it bled (then we'd have to do the antibiotic thing to control infection ) Nothing helped until we changed her diet to barf patties, the pork ones (as they are the best for allergy dogs) and we saw a huge improvement within about a week. Her skin colouring died down from a very pink colour to a paler creamy colour, she stopped itching a lot (she still itches a little but NOWHERE near as much) and we also started using aloveen oatmeal conditioner on her to sooth her skin. I know which things i can't give her food wise...if i give her tuna she will start getting scratchy and little pimply sore things on her tummy. We are still learning which foods make her react but i really think an all natural diet really might be worth trying. We now keep away from dry food, they just aren't good for our dog. Hope things start to improve.
  2. Hi jodie, I saw your post in regards to this a few weeks ago which noone responded to initially BUT they did respond eventually!! My response from the other thread... and the responses were... So Jodie...there we have it...we can feed them whole!! bones, gutty bits and all!
  3. Yah!! Jodi and I got an answer!! Thanks!! JBBB, your dobes diet looks good. I am still in the process of changing Akira over to the barf diet. That is all she is eating but I'm still trying to find a regular diet of my own rather than barf patties all the time. Too expensive by themselves. How old is your dobe JBBB? Just trying to get an idea of age and amount of food to feed.
  4. It's ok Jodi, I'm dumb too!! Same question from me!! Help...tell us!! We need one of those books called " An Idiot's Guide to Feeding Chicken Frames" I have given Akira half a chicken frame this morning. I only give her the chest half as I don't know if I can give her the other half. It has little liver thingies still inside!! Probably normal but hey... don't want to make Akira sick! So can you give a 9 mth old golden retriever a whole chicken frame??? Now don't I sound stupid!!!
  5. Ground chicken frames??? How do you ground them...does the butcher do it if you ask them?? How many barfers add Greenpet to their dog's diet?
  6. Hi safadao, My parents dog has been doing that for a few years now waking up and barking at 5am in the morning. Although his 5 am bark is a "wake up" call to mum and dad..."Hey mum and dad, it's 5 am...I'm ready to come inside now!!!"" Mum and dad always obey and he happily curls up and go back to sleep in the dining room!! :D
  7. There is a pet cafe on Logan Rd between mt gravatt and stones corner. I am pretty sure all pet cafes sell the barf patties. We buy ours at pet cafe in toowoomba for $15.95. That is until i am game enough to make Akira's food myself. I'm like you storm, im not game to do it in case i stuff up and make it unbalanced. Until i know what im doing, i'll just buy the stuff.
  8. Hi Russkie30, I have an 8 mth old golden retriever girl who is still on supercoat puppy. She also has combination meat at dinner time. She gets chicken wings or similar 3 times a week. I want to try and get her on a more natural diet so have been thinking about changing her to a barf diet. Problem is I don't know what the best food is to feed her being still a pup. What do you feed as part of your barf diet?? Thanks, Helen.
  9. I mentioned this to my vet last week and she said that Akira (8mths) should be staying on puppy food until she is2 yrs old. All the varying opions makes it a little confusing. I want the best for Akira but don't know what to do??
  10. Just thought I'd ask all you guys out there who do obedience what age your dog was when you started obedience and also what age your club allows you to bring your dog? The only club in my town allows dogs at 6 mths of age. I haven't started yet....have to wait 2 more mths!
  11. thanks pup's mum!!! Best price i've seen and I will be buying from them!!!! Question for Pup's mum and others who have bought from Priceless pets... How did you the find the payment system?? Bit cautious of sending my credit card details to them and my husband and i don't use cheques??
  12. Advocate is another similar product to Sentital(??) It's a once a month squeeze tube on the back of the neck (must have contact with skin). It covers heartworm, fleas and all worming EXCEPT tapeworm. Costs about $140 for 6 months if you have a large 25kg + dog You can't use this product if you have a cat also though as if the cat comes in contact it can be very harmful. DobermanDave my parents were paying just over $100 a year for the yearly injection for Heartworm.
