Ok then, how about these ones: http://www.horsesuppliesdirect.com.au/prod2412.htm ($137, corded, for trimming dogs and horses, made by Thrive (I had some thrive clippers - very sturdy) These ones are currently at $59 on ebay http://cgi.ebay.com.au/DOG-CLIPPERS-ELECTR...1QQcmdZViewItem The casing is exactly the same as my Thrive 900 clippers, but the brand is different? The list of features is also very similar, as is the items you get in the box. You'd need to check them out, but if they are the Thrive ones, they are definatly worth the money, and will last you a lifetime. the seller is also selling them called 'miniature horse clippers' - they mean that the horse is miniature I think! If you are still interested in teh cordless ones, find somewhere near you that sells them, and take your dog in to try them out . They may well be fine for what you want.

What Shampoo Will Make My Dog Smell Delicious?
BittyMooPeeb replied to Sally's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks Sally. She's a princess and she knows it  ETA: The picture in my avatar is Blossom too. Dumped at the pound, emaciated, at 6 months old, and only weighing as much as an 8 wk old pup. No-one will believe it when I tell them it is the same dog. Your dogs will probably be fine with the Aloveen - I just seem to have a bunch that hate perfume smells. -
The Worst That Could Happen, Did...

WR Engineering (http://www.wrengineering.com.au/index.php) make very sturdy dog runs that come apart (ARF have a few that carers transport to their homes as needed). The panels are large but can be transported lying flat on a 6x4 trailer (securely tied on). They are in Canberra, so you'd need to factor in shipping. -
Ask us . I use the Andis two speed clippers for my dogs, and I use scissors for their muzzles, legs, and eyebrows. The clippers are fantastic - light, quiet and powerful. The Wahl straight scissors I have are great (6"), but the curved blade ones (also Wahl) are awful and only mash the hair rather than cut it Some links: http://www.clipperworld.com.au/shop/index....mp;productId=34 (Andis 2 speed) http://www.clipperworld.com.au/shop/index....p;productId=127 (wahl 6" scissors)

What Shampoo Will Make My Dog Smell Delicious?
BittyMooPeeb replied to Sally's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
My dogs HATE aloveen as the smell (especially the conditioner) is very strong, so try a small container to start with, particularly if your dog is sensitive to strong artificial smells. For smelly fosters I love using the Fido's shampoo (just the normal one). It it very reasonably priced, and leaves them smelling like the bubble bath I remember from when I was a kid. By FAR my most favourite thing is the lavender rinse that Aussie Pooch Mobile use. You can buy it from them in a spray on bottle (in theory you can buy it - I have been trying to get some since last year with no luck ) -
Hi ML, I havent used this one, but being a trimmer AND rechargable, it may not have enough power to clip - say - pregnant tummies of breeds with thick hair. I have tried the cheaper clippers in the past and found they didnt cut though the fur of my low-shedding dogs - not even for a trim. I have used the top of the range Andis cordless (once). I liked it as it was quiet and easy to use. It is about $600 though. I have myself the corded Andis 2 speed - it is perfect . If you get it, let us know how it goes.

Where Are All The Good Groomers!
BittyMooPeeb replied to shmoo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
One of the staff at LDH seems to have a fondness for partially clipping dogs before they come into rescue! When the going gets tough though (like this girls feet) the matts are left on. -

Veh's '20 minute malt' is fantastic I wouldn't recommend the 3 minute Malt though .... :D -
How sad for Page and her family and friends. Thankyou from all of us to those who made a little girls wish come true with her very own poodle.

Meat tray absorbtion packs Originally posted by heidig24 Cibo ate the absorbtion pack out of a chicken tray during the night (sneaky!) and after freaking out when I realised, I first searched Dogzonline and couldn't really find anything definate so I rang the vet and she told me to take him in straight away, gave him an injection to make him throw up and voila! I won't go into the messy details... sick2.gif Anyway, the explanation she gave was whilst he hadn't ingested the plastic wrapping (which can get caught anywhere on the way down, the absorbtion part can be dangerous as well - if the dog doesn't pass it right away it can cause dehydration depending on how much liquid it can hold. Of course, it would then grow and make it harder to pass causing blockages etc... A very tangled web of problems. Some of these problems may only be because he is a shih tzu and therefore quite small but probably best for everyone to be aware - I am sure they are a tempting snack for all dogs!!! Ironically, I had left the packaging on the bench instead of putting it in the bin in case he got into the bin during the night but the stupid wind blew it off the bench during the night! banghead.gif Hope this helps anyone else who comes across this problem in the future! -
Best Clippers For Home Grooming My Mini Schnauzer?
BittyMooPeeb replied to kiki's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hi Kiki, I am a 'home groomer' (hides from Shmoo ). I use the Andis two speed clippers and love them as they are easy to hold and fully sealed. One difference that I've noticed (from my old clippers - Thrive ones) is that the blades heat up more quickly, so you need to keep checking that they are not too hot, and stop for a break (or change blades) when they do heat up. I've found the most tricky (read - dangerous) areas are around the ears, the groin and the feet. I'd recommend (as others have) getting your dog professionally groomed and then starting off by just clipping around the body (following the lines of the prof groomer). I assume for the eyebrows and muzzle, and maybe the legs, you will want scissors too. I use Wahl brand which are sort of mid-range for expense (around $70 a pair). I learned a lot from watching a professional groomer (with her permission) about how to clip, scissor, and how to hold the dog while all this is happening -
Group Stay At The Dagboy Residence
BittyMooPeeb replied to MrsD's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
The dogs are all angled towards the left of the video, so I'm guessing you are standing beside them to the left (as looked at from head on). And given the attention that right-hand doggy is giving you, you might also be in the kitchen :D -
Faaaaaaaaaar out! That is amazing.

Yep - trotters, ham, bones. The premade Billinghurst BARF patties come in pork too.

Toilet Training Out The Window
BittyMooPeeb replied to BittyMooPeeb's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I actually still do supervise their toileting at night (where's the blush emoticon?). My neighbour is very upset by dog noise, so I spend 15 mins outside with them before bed saying 'wizza wizza' and praising when they go. Is this what you meant? Could do. This wouldnt help at my parents carpeted place though. I'd really like them to learn that carpet is not for pooing and weeing on! Sorry - I'm a bit confused (late in teh week and I'm tired). If I remove the rug, the problems will stop *because* the rug is not there. Or is there a method I can use to teach them not to wee on it while it is not there? I'll try the beds and food bowl idea. Ness is a puppy farm dog so has learned to wee where she sleeps and eats though, but hopefully it will work for Blossom. ETA for spellin -
I'd *thought* that my furkids were all toilet trained (apart from Blossom who always needs to go in the middle of the night and wees/poos right in front of the external door -which I dont mind) But .... over Christmas I visited my Mum who has carpet, and around the same time bought myself a rug (previously just had floorboards). My two newest dogs (Nessie and Blossom) think that carpet is for going to the toilet on . They constantly tried to go on Mum's carpet at her house (and even came inside to 'go'). The carpet was brand new so there were no doggy smells to make them think it was a toilet. Even after being caught in the act and interrupted, taken outside, rewarded for going outside, given privacy to go outside, etc, they still wee'd on the carpet. The same has happenend with my rug which is now ruined (turns out it isn't colourfast ). My dogs sleep in my room (where the rug is) and sneak out of bed in the middle of the night to wee and poo on it. I had a trial period of crating them at night, then putting them outside first thing, then letting them back up into my room (while I had a bit of a sleep in) and they still went to the toilet on the rug while I was snoozing. This has never been a problem before, and neither dog has ever gone to the loo in my bedroom until I got the rug. I clean it up with enzyme cleaner so it shouldn't retain any smell. Does anyone have any suggestions? Ideally I need to teach them that carpet is NOT A TOILET, otherwise it will be very difficult to take them to my Mum's again, and I will never be able to have a rug

Paula, I am so sorry to hear about Shadow I knew you had some bad news, but didnt realise it was this (one of my emails to you that went astray). Shadow was an adorable girl, who - maybe for the first time in her life - got to play, zoom, be cheeky and wrestle with the other dogs. You and Shadow's dad made sure that her life was full of quality and I'm sure she was a very happy girl. RIP Shadow

What Happened To The Xmas Video And Mutts 2?
BittyMooPeeb replied to BittyMooPeeb's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
Thanks for the xmas link Dust Angel! I still cant find Mutts 2 - have searched TB's threads back to September (my what an education that was ) -
My first animal family, my two cats ( ) were getting older and having some problems. I researched and found to my complete horror that most of their problems were *caused* by the tinned and dry food I was feeding them. I vowed not to make the same mistake again, and when my kitties went to the bridge and new feline family members were adopted, they started straight away on diet that contained plenty of raw food. A year or so later when dogs entered my life, I continued to feed raw food. because of the experience with my cats, and because of horrible childhood memories of the smell of Pal . When I get overwhelmed and feed dry food instead, I always regret it because of the poos. What time I save in shopping for and making up their BARF mix I spend instead picking up stinky offerings in the garden . The only problem that I have is that I cant get my cats to eat bones/meat on the bone/chicken wings and necks. Bailey especially who is only two is already having teeth problems . any suggestions?

Wow, well done WestieLover! I couldnt hear the sound, but get the idea of what was going on . How sweet that one of your other boys 'came' as well. And here's a dancing banana for a new forum . Whooohooo! ps Spencer looks wonderful. How much time do you have before he is officially declared either for adoption or a very lucky FF?? (I strung Blossom out for months - not deliberately - it was just never the right time to put her up on the web site, and in the end I had to face facts that it was never going to be the right time!

i sent in pics for both of these, but must have missed when they came out as I didnt get to see them . Does anyone know where they are? (I cant remember the creater, or I would do a search)

Hi ISH, I stayed for a week with Gemma (ISH's sister) over christmas, so had my first experience of greyhound whinging. Gemma whinges in the morning, and when she is shut in her crate and wants to come out, and like Vespa, she can whinge for ever! I cant really offer any advice though - 'whinging' is a concept I havent encountered with non-greyhound dogs - except to let you know that other grey's are the same. Gemma will stop whinging once she has company (which is why my Mum now gets up at 6am and sleeps on the couch with Gemma till 8) I found, with the greyhound pups, that being told off was a greater behaviour modifier than positive reinforcement. I dont know if this is relevant to older greys, or even to grey's in general though. So I used to 'Uh Uh" when they whinged in their crate at night to get them to be quiet, which worked. Good luck! Gemma is a big, beautiful girl now
