So sorry to hear about your loss. Sandy looks beautiful. Seeing a life through from beginning to end ,as we do with our furry pals, is incredibly hard , but also incredibly rewarding. I'd never give up the rewards to save myself from the pain, and I know you wouldnt either, so rest assured you will feel better with time, and you will think of Sandy and it will put a smile on your face instead of bringing tears. There is another canine pal waiting in the wings for you when you are ready, and you will be able to give that lucky dog a fantastic life, and you will know that Sandy is somewhere chuckling at you trying to deal with puppy antics, and approving of the fact you are giving another dog a chance to know happiness. You are joking aren't you? Did you read this thread or just jump on the 'lets have a go at Poodlefan' bandwagon? Poodlefan has been very clear in giving "responsibility" as an option for the OP. It is others who have encouraged the OP to try to get around the law and behave irresponsibly. And I haven't read where anyone has whinged and complained about pitbulls as a breed. Why is is not an option to comply with the current legislation, and keep the dog as detailed by the legislation? Greyhound owners dont try to register their dogs as whippets to avoid having to wear a muzzle, many many dogs live in runs while their owners are not at home (but get plenty of walks, exercise and other stimulation when the owners are home), many dogs cannot be let offlead due to poor recall, etc. I dont understand why these restrictions would be so hard to live with. This doesn't mean that you accept or agree with the legislation, but there are much better ways to get it changed than by braking the law. Why not show the world you are proud APBT owners and comply with the legislation, instead of trying to hide your dogs away? I dont agree with BSL, but individuals breaking the law are not going to change things.

Oh Moops I didn't see this thread first time around. Sorry to hear about Jack, but fantastic news that he is responding to medication :p . Give him a big hug for me, and tell him that he can wee on me and my Maltese any time

Just decided that we have to have the hide-a-squirrel, and it is out of stock . I didnt get a PM about the eggs either - are you able to get the turtle ones, and a squirrel (the big one)?
-
My guys have the turtle and the puzzle pup. Puzzle pup wasnt a great hit (but I know another DOLers dog LOVES his). Turtle was discarded but they LOVE the eggs LOL. I just need to buy the replacement eggs and can ditch the toy ETA: if you are able to get them, I would like replacement eggs for the turtle (I know the company makes them and sells them separately, just not sure if you were planning on getting any)

Obedience Trial Ring Craft - Tips
BittyMooPeeb replied to Ptolomy's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
- Line up at the start with you between the dog and the start peg. I didnt know this, and at my first (and only!) CCD trial, I was horrified to look down and see Peebs moving lovingly towards the start peg with his "I am going to wee on you" expression on his face - if you are heeling around markers (cones etc) dont walk to close to them as you wont have any room to maneuver if your dog moves in towards you (particularly on a corner) and it will be really obvious what has happened when you suddenly have to jump over the cone! - Be nice to your dog in the ring. People get so intense and you can see their dog cringing or getting nervous. -
DOL member IBite (who I havent seen for aaaaages) had a shirt made for her dog with "I bite" written on it. People still read it and patted the dog though. Are you in a group training class? If so, ask the instructor to tell the other handlers to keep a distance from your dog, and remind them of this each week. For a shirt, you could get a plain one and use an iron on transfer to write what you want on it. (I did this to make rehoming coats for our foster dogs). There are sites that do printing and have dog coats in their stock, but I dont remember who they are. A google search might come up with something

Tire Jump Incident - Youtube Video
BittyMooPeeb replied to sas's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I've been wondering this too. The tyre disappeared here for a short time, but was reintroduced pretty quickly. Maybe it is in the definition of an "ANKC event"? I would like to see breakaway tyres in use. I'd also like to see a new (?) type of spread be removed. I haven't seen them at other clubs, but our club has one. It has metal cups that stick out on the inside of the jumps at each height level. I can see a dog taking this jump at an angle and getting sliced open by one of the metal cups  . I've mentioned it, and got a look like I was a bit of a nutter - which may well be the case. I'd like to hear what other people think about the jump, and I'd be happy to be reassured that it is safe. ETA : found a pic, and added the path of the dog that worries me. -
Sorry to hear that Pepper is gone I enjoyed reading your posts about her.

The punctuation fairy is visiting, and requests an apostrophe Unless you mean that you were going to do the ET but have changed your mind

So glad to hear that he seems to be on the mend

Hmmm is Velvet the whiteish soap? Sunlight is very yellow. It's what was used before we had six million choices of soap! is used for washing clothes mainly now, and can sometimes be found on the washbasins in public toilets!

My pup is 13 weeks old now, and so far I have not really told him off*. I figured that until he learned what was OK and what wasnt, it was not fair to give any sort of punishment, and so training has focussed on being positive (rewards for doing the right thing, and removing him from the situation (or the situation from him) if he is doing the wrong thing, and next time trying to set him up so he cant do the "wrong thing". How old is old enough to start being a bit harder on him? I dont want to start this too early and cause problems, but I dont want to start it too late and have problems either LOL. He's not the cleverest pup either *With one exception - he was grabbing Blossom by her ears and tail and dragging her around the house endlessly. I squirted a bit of mouthwash in his mouth when he did it, and after two times he lisnted to my "uh Uh" without me having to go for the spray.

I took Magic to the vet. He has a skin infection . The vet said it usually occurs when dogs are left wearing dirty harnesses for a long time . Trouble is, Magic has NEVER worn a harness that goes in his armpits, and he has NEVER been left on anything dirty for a long period of time! So maybe it could have been caused by the heat?? Still funny it is in one spot. And it has spread again today further up his chin, but the bits in his armpit have healed. so he has antibiotics and instructions to bathe him in Pyrohex. I have a product from Eqyss that claims to get rid of skin infections, so I will try that first as it is not harsh on the skin like Pyrohex is.
-
Dont think so, as they are very small spots. Possible, but he is quite fluffy, so I dont know how the contact could have been made, nor why it is getting worse but only on one side.
-
My 13 week old pup has developed small, scabby spots on his right hand side, from the bottom of his armpit to his chin. My dogs have never had fleas, so I haven't treated him since the breeder did (5 weeks ago), but the flea bits I have seen on fosters dont look like this. He was vaccinated last week, but I only noticed the spots in the last few days. I cant think of what else might have caused them. Any ideas? Yesterday they were only under his armpit, and today they have spread to his chin, and they are scabby already

Some Advice Regarding My Little Puppy-monster...
BittyMooPeeb replied to Guapa's topic in Puppy Chat
I'll add a gold star to persephone's elephant stamp. Well done! (something good for treats that are quick to eat are four legs dog food, cut into teeny bits. I cut each ball into between 4 and 8 pieces and my pup just loves them for training treats). -
He could be going through a fear development period, so he is not so keen to leave the house, and very keen to get home again. K9-force has a thread posted on the puppydevelopment periods, and believes that things can go very wrong if you push a pup while he is fearful. I agree with this too. Have a look at the thread here. It sounds like you might need to keep your pup at home for a while till he is ready to explore again.

Hi dogon, I dont know if I missed it, but what breed is your dog? My 12 week old toy breed pup behaves exactly as you have described. I am elated as it can be hard to get a toy breed to enjoy tug, and I do want to obedience and agility train him. *All* of my dogs growl and get excited when we play. They also 'kill' toys and have great fun doing it. I teach a 'give' command, and to make sure it is always effective, I treat 50% of the time even long after they have learned what to do. It might be different with your pup if he has a higher desire for tug, but if my pup doesnt 'give' the tug toy when I ask him to, I let the toy go limp until he lets go (which he always does because the game is boring then) Coudl you play both tug and fetch with different toys so that he gets to know the difference? Try a ball for fetch so that he cant play tug with it easily. Occasionally get him to return it to you by offering something darn good in exchange (a yummy treat). I let mine go off with the toy and play with it if they want, but if you prefer it to always be returned to you, always offer the exchange. Also teach a word that tells him he can tug. Start a tug game and use the word. Once he knows it, if he tries to get the toy without you having given the tug word, hold the toy to you and turn around - ignore him for a minute (dont ignore him for too long, he will just get frustrated). Then turn around and give him the tug command for a game. He should learn that if he tries to play without being told he can, you will take the toy away and ignore him. Good luck :-). Even if you dont want to do dog sports, having a dog that regards a tug game as a reward is very handy, as you will want to teach him basic obedience - sit, stay, come etc, and you will be able to use a game to reward him.
