I bought some items at Erskine park at the Xmas show. The bag was in my gazebo, but somehow didn't make it to the car for the trip home . If anyone found a bag containing: - Lasterlites product 'Mattless magic' - Dog news - fish treats could you please let me know. You are welcome to keep the Dog News and the fish treats if I get the Mattless Magic back

BMP ... this is the same setup I have with my Santa Fe (Hyundai) and it's great !!!! Next time I am in Vic or you are in Canberra we will have to compare setups. I am always looking for ways to tweak things to make it even more easy and efficient. I am thinking of buying pp30's instead of the 40's I use now, and using the space that will be saved for bags to store the trolley and crate covers ...

CC is a man! that is Blakbelgian in the photo! Oh good. There are too few men on DOL so the thought of one less was sad

Happy birthday Poodlefan I hope you are able to buy yourself a lovely pressie with all those profits from your kennels .

Friends tried out the back of many cars and found that the X-trail was the only one that could fit a four berth trolley in the back **without having to put any seats down**. I bought one and love it - trolley in the back with dog crates on top, gear in the back seat. People sometimes too! A friend made a frame out of a dog bed (the ones that have hessian mats on them) which sits in the back. The crates go on top of it and the trolley goes underneath. I can take the trolley out without having to move the crates  . To say I love my new setup is an HUGE understatement

Testicles And The Show Ring ....
BittyMooPeeb replied to Whipitgood's topic in General Dog Discussion
My boy's testicles had not dropped while he was in puppy class. The onlyproblem I found is that judges will poke and prod to find them, and cause discomfort for the dog. He yelped at one show when a judge was determined to palpate both even though he was only four months old. So my advice would be to show him, but talk to the judge when you get to the table and explain that one is not dropped, and that you would appreciate gentle handling if they feel they must look for it. I'm not sure why judges were so determed to palpate when they are not necessary for baby  He has two dangly sparrows eggs now -
Congrats CC And now I have to admit that I thought you were a man

RuralPug, are you sure you bought that Grainpug from Deshonko? The Deshonko Grainpugs usually have a lot less grain, and come with a bit of mould around the edge. The one you have looks to be in too good condition to be a Deshonko Dog. How much did you pay for it?

Add me to the list Daisy. I resolved (a few weeks ago) to walk the show dogs more often to try and muscle them up a bit. So far I have walked them a total of 0 times . Time to name and shame me I think.

What Do You Wish You Knew Before You Got Your Dog?
BittyMooPeeb replied to GeorgieB's topic in General Dog Discussion
One think I wish I knew before I got my dog is just how wonderful life would be with one. So wonderful in fact that I would end up with many more than 1. If I knew this before I started I would have sent different rules. One dog is OK on the bed/sofa, but 6 is impossible. One dog who graze feeds is fine, more than one and you have trouble. etc. So basically my advice is to set the rules for your dogs based on minimising change if more dogs come along, or kids, or partner etc :-D Second thing I wish I knew (pre cat purchase) is that it is as important to investigate the breeder as it is to investigate the dogs. And to know the difference between someone who calls themselves a breeder and a reputable, registered breeder. Third thing - research potential heath problems and be firm in asking for health test results of sire and dam for things that concern you. Best of luck -
I think it is Australian Air Express (AAE). I have found it cheaper or just as well priced to go through an agent who then organises everything for you. As Poodlefan said, Dogtainers is one. Jetpets is another. I get quotes from each as they can be quite different. Both Dogtainers and Jetpets have websites :-)

My Sweet Boy, With A Heart So Much Bigger Than His Size
BittyMooPeeb replied to RoxyNHemi's topic in Rainbow Bridge
Oh no - Sarah my heart goes out to you. From comparing our show experiences and results I feel like I know him, and of course you as well, and cannot comprehend how devastating a loss like this would feel . Please accept my sympathy and best wishes, and know that I will be thinking of you and Cruise. -
I always thought the lower in the pack did the cleaning. I am in trouble then because my Malt 'cleans' my eyes every morning while I wake up LOL. Puggerup your two sound lovely and like they have their relationship well sorted out . my young boy just adores his mum (canine variety) and will often nuzzle her ears and lie down and lick her chops. They are both very relaxed and happy during these encounters

Public View On Dog Showers/enthusiasts
BittyMooPeeb replied to Heidii's topic in General Dog Discussion
CDL is my nickname with OH and my mates! They actually will correspond about me in texts as dog girl - ie "we're running a little late as CDL has found a stray, we'll be there after a quick pound stop". Or "Dog girl is saying mean things to the people looking at puppies in pet stores, I'm scared!". Go the Crazy Dog Ladies of the world Eta: I used to have cats only - just two and only pets. BUT I was still called a Crazy Cat Lady, and my BF reckoned I would become one of those old ladies whose house is filled to the brim with newspapers and cats! I have no idea where this came from, but it shows that what someone views as their interest or passion, others view as wierd and likely to end badly Eta2: my spell checker is telling me that wierd is spelled weird. I dont think I can cope with an exception to the 'i before e except after c' rule -
Public View On Dog Showers/enthusiasts
BittyMooPeeb replied to Heidii's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have never had that reaction to agility .... most people are so disinterested that they don't even have an opinion. I don't think anyone I work with has a dog or has any interest in dogs. I doubt a dog could compete sucessfully in today's agility if it was not healthy, fit and happy. A dog that is trained using punishment would be very rare these days (in agility) I think and would probably be easy to spot, and would not be as competitive as those that have been reward based trained. They do exist of course, but are in the minority. I have only been showing (conformation) a short time, and have found that positive training methods haven't really caught on in the show world like they have in dog sports, so I can understand why the public could see showing in a bad light, depending on what they had witnessed and heard. I have seen dogs 'punished' and corrected harshly in the ring and outside the ring, and am amazed that it is allowed . I have also seen two dogs 'belted' for annoying their owners/handlers . I think showing is more agricultural in attitude than dog sports, and in general , the dogs are seen as more of a commodity. I haven't seen this attitude in agility though -

ewww. reminds me of the time our back freezer failed us. It's chockerblock full of kangaroo, goat, etc... just heaps and heaps of dog meat. WELL it failed us and we were not aware of it at all.. About a fortnight had passed and i kept finding this disgusting smell in the back area, and was contstantly cleaning around the freezer. I decided to open the freezer up and out gushed all this brown stinky mouldy water, it aws disgusting.. all over my legs and feet. and i vomitted into the freezer.. looked indie and saw nothing but bags moving and maggots EVERYWHERE. Oh gross gross gross gross. How do the flies get into the freezer to lay their eggs? -
How Does Your Dog Let You Know What They Want?
BittyMooPeeb replied to mutt lover's topic in General Dog Discussion
How cute! I love when dogs work out how to tell us hoomans what they want. Lady is one clever girl -
Is it a primary school oval? Yep. But he is not there when school is in. Neither are we! There is a public area around the school with a footpath (I still cant get over that schools in the ACT are not fenced) and this is where we used to walk.
-
I feel your pain PF. A couple have moved in near me, adjacent to the school, and they think the school oval is their dog's very own off-lead, unsupervised, exercise area. Once their off-lead dog rushed mine (on lead) and I screamed at the owner, who was sitting on her front fence) to call her dog. She got up, turned around, and walked into the house . I kept hold of her dog and kept shouting, and a few minutes later she came back out .... with a poo bag. She apparently decided that I could hang on to her lunging dog for her while she prepared to pick up his poo. On four other occasions the dog has rushed us with the owners nowhere in sight (I assume they are inside the house) so we cant walk that way any more ETA: remember the DOL user 'IBite'? Her dog had a t-shirt made up with "I bite" on it. Maybe something similar for Darcy would keep the loons away. Then again, these days someone would probably sue you ...

Maggots (up Date : Now Talking About Other Yucky Things)
BittyMooPeeb replied to Erny's topic in General Dog Discussion
I think this wins the thread. Maggots and vomit Gets my vote too! I have not been able to eat Four'n'twenty pies in Victoria since some poor guy bit into one and it was FULL of maggots . A pic of the pie was on the news - thinking about it still makes my stomach turn -
Grover Is Really Sick - Another Change
BittyMooPeeb replied to Trisven13's topic in General Dog Discussion
Hi Trish, I just tried to PM but your inbox is full, so will post instead Hi Trish, I have been following Grovers illness withmy heart in my mouth. Gawd it must be awful not knowing what is going on. Best wishes to you, Steve and Grover - we have fingers and paws crossed for you. Re the relapses, when you first mentioned them I thought similar to Poodlefan, that he is going downhill a bit from being taken off the drip, and also using extra energy when he gets home. He might not realise he is overdoing it until he feels unwell again. With the cause, is it possible he injested/came into contact with something slow acting (so the original contact might have been 2-3 weeks ago)? I dont know much about this, but do recall that poisons like ratsac can take several weeks to show symptoms. I'm not saying he ate ratsac, just wondering if there are other slow acting things, so the contact he had might not be in the time frame you are looking at. Gail -
