  1. Not sure if I can make this. I MIGHT be recovering from birthday celebrations.
  2. I'm trying to think of something to bring at the moment. Also if today is anything to go by, I will probably be coming without the kids because they're not wanting to go outside today. They're happy with the air con going while I'm working outside /sigh.
  3. I'll make a judgement call Sunday morning as to whether I will bring furkids or not, If it's as hot as they say I think they'll be quite unimpressed if I take them away from their air conditioning lol. I also may not be able to stay too late as at this point my housemate is arriving Monday and I am freaking out that things won't be as spotless as I feel they should be.
  4. lol he has to get involved if he wants to live with me
  5. I've actually decided that I'll come for the fun but if housemate is here already he's going to get dragged to it too lol
  6. I'd like to say I can make it but my soon to be housemate has said he'll be arriving around this date. I can only pencil it in and hope he arrives after the 5th, wouldn't want to leave any kids with him before I'm sure they are settled with him.
  7. Surprisingly the younger one hasnt had any probs. I don't know whether having been brought up on that kind of thing is the reason why or it's just fluke. It's sad that her older dog has ended up with diabetes but it has made her think about giving them a proper diet at least.
  8. A terrible diet which is why I was keen for her to change anyway. They were eating sausages, pasta and sauces, maccas etc. so not good I've just spoken with her again and the reason the bulldog doesn't get dry is because she just wont eat it. She's all good with other suggestions now anyways after we just had a chat.
  9. Thats the only time mine would get it too.
  10. Nope no high quality dry food otherwise it wouldn't bother me so much From what she has told me it's meant as a sole diet which imo is asking for problems due to lack of nutrients. She may have misunderstood it or maybe the vet even assumed that she already feeds a good quality dry food and it was as an additive. Even if it is one of these I'd like to set her straight before she has any issues because of it.
  11. My friends vet told her that her 'Australian Bulldog' shouldn't have bones because since it's a non-sporting 'breed' and it wont be active enough to work off the high fat content of the bones. He also hates chicken necks. She has been told to feed her on boiled chicken breast and rice and grains but suggested nothing else. Advice on diet was given by the vet because she was told to change the diet or the bulldog will end up diabetic like her other dog has just been diagnosed as. I asked her how boiled chicken breast alone would fulfil the dogs nutritional requirements but I didn't get an answer for that. I just don't feel that boiled chicken breast alone can be healthy for her. I'm essentially wondering if this is just me that thinks that way (I know I would never feed my kids like that long term, they've only had a diet that bland if they've had to because of the runs or something). Also if anyone has any suggestions on how to put this without being met with a 'you're not a vet so how would you know?' type attitude.
  12. Sumbled across a website a while ago with red Elkhounds.
  13. Thanks for the information My friend really appreciates it. She picked her little girl up last night and was told she has pancreatitis and was given anti biotics and insulin. She was told to inject the insulin in the back of her neck and shake it but apparently the paperwork says into the abdomen and not to shake it so they're a bit confused. Her mother is taking Bella to another vet this morning so hoping they get some clarification from this visit.
  14. A friend of mine took her dog to a vet yesterday as she wouldn't eat and was getting dehydrated. The vet took some blood tests and her little girl has been diagnosed with diabetes and she was left with the vet overnight to be monitored. The vet told my friend that it would be $500 for this, anyway this morning she was told $800 and later when questioned what had been done it came back down to $640. They also seem to have put the guilt trip on my friend when she said she'll pick her little girl up today, and went from saying how strong and robust she was to how sick she is. Now my friend has been told that her little girl (15 yr old Maltese x Mini Fox Terrier) will require 2 insulin injections every day and a low fat diet to control her diabetes and she has no problem with doing that and her family are also wanting to help. The vet has also said she'll need to keep going back for blood tests regularly, the first of which being in two weeks. Having never come across a dog with diabetes before is this what happens? She's also thinking about a second opinion as she doesn't have a good gut feeling about this vet. I told her I'd try and get some recommendations for her and she doesn't mind travelling for a good vet. ***Sorry if this doesn't read right, I'm writing it up while at work.
  15. lol I'm sure Brock would love to see her too... I've never seen him go so ga ga.
