  1. Now she's starting to growl at the one who had the op if she tries to come and feed. Please, I really need some advice. I'm starting to feel like I'm doing all the wrong things and like I should have never done this in the first place.
  2. Now Portia is reluctant to feed the one operated on. She will if I hold her down but surely I can't do that forever??? feeling a tad overwhelmed
  3. What no condies. ;) ;) Apparently not. This surgery was recommended by 2 people as well. And now my mother is making me feel like a butcher for doing something that normally gets done.
  4. Ok, so the bleeder never really stopped. The vet who did it is an hour round trip, luckily the vet around the corner is seeing her. She has to go for a light GA and stitch. ;) Considering forwarding the bill to the original vet!! When they bought the pups out they said the bandages dropped off but 'that's ok, they've stopped bleeding anyway'.
  5. Dewclaws got done today at the vets. One bled quite a bit but seems to have settled now. They were given bandages but fell off fairly quickly. On the way home in their basket they were crawling all over each other so got blood all over each other. Nothing a facewasher bath didn't fix. ETA - Looks like the bleeder reopened the wound on her bedding. Got her wearing cotton wool booties now to keep some pressure on.
  6. Do you have a particular theme in mind?
  7. Sorry to hear about the little boy Hotwyr. Congrats Zensu, sounds like you will be kept very busy!
  8. Babies look to be doing really well, so is mum. I think she initially had a bit of trouble with her milk, but it seems to be ok now. I'm starting to see bulgy tummies on the pups last night that I previously hadn't been able to see, so a good sign I think. They're also crying less too. Weigh time in a few hours so we will be able to see then if they are getting the milk. Portia had a bit of a swollen gland the night before last, so chucked the big girl on there to suck for a while and it seems to rectify itself by the next morning. Phew!!
  9. This is the dams 2nd night, first time mum. Box is set up in my room, room is only small so haven't put a pen around it. Have found her trying to sneak off mum duty and lie under my bed, which is where she would normally sleep and she seems to want to get back into the routine of visiting my parents room after a toilet break (where she would usually stay till morning). She's back feeding now after a bit of coercion. She's attentive to their cries still but maybe a bit less than before. I'm thinking maybe she is getting sore from the suckling? Just really wondering when I can start sleeping again!!
  10. Usually how long do you keep the Whelping box in your bedroom for before you transfer it to a living area?
  11. Good luck, it's going to be a long night! *so thankful for my daytime whelping!*
  12. It's 32 degrees here today. The pups are in my bedroom, there is a main aircon in the lounge that we have put on for a little bit. A little bit of cool is coming in but not draughty at all. I have been putting a wheat bag in with them as well. They are crying a little, not sure if it is too much though? They're happily suckling away at the moment, so I'm off for a nap. Will weigh again later tonight to see how they're progressing.
  13. Here are my weights if that's any help, good to know a small loss is normal. Boy 1 from 105g to 107g Boy 2 from 127g to 121g Boy 3 from 153g to 139g (biggest loss) Girl 1 from 147g to 143g. They've been suckling, have seen one sucking the gland and not the teat, so fixed her up. I gave Portia a squeeze before and milk was coming out of only one teat.... silly question, does this mean the pups may have fed from the others (they were red, so had been suckled from) and those one's supply is drained and waiting to be refilled? My first litter, so I apologise if the answer is bleedingly obvious.
  14. The smallest puppy has put on a little bit of weight, the rest have lost a few grams. Would it be a good idea to top them up, or see how they are a bit later today? Portia is getting the hang of this feeding business now. I know they should double their birth weight in a week, but is it usual for them to go down a little bit the first day?
  15. 105 grams to 150 grams, excellent size. So very happy with them. Now here's a dilemma.... I like them when they're quiet (which isn't too often!) but when they are quiet I'm wondering if they're ok. Silly mum nerves.

  20. I belong in here now, will update later.
  21. Good luck Paps!!! Fingers crossed for a smooth whelping for you! Ummmm I'm out of this thread now! We're not quite done, shouldn't be too long though.
  22. But it means it won't be a Feb litter! That's ok, I'll stay in here though, we Feb bunch are a small one!
  23. Portia was a bit unsettled last night but calmed down after an hour or so. More unsettled this morning, panting and nesting. Today would be day 60.
