  1. I have a friend who has a Dogue De Bordeaux and she is only 9 months old, she is giving it Joint Guard as a preventative and to give the dog extra support!! Might be worth looking into. Her vet said there wasnt any problems doing it, her vet thought more people should be doing it!!
  2. JOINT GUARD TREATS Mum's dog is going to love those!!!
  3. I wouldnt, due to the risk of getting pancreatitis
  4. Give him Fish Oil - I noticed there is a new ad popping up the top for a Veterinary Fish Oil Capsule!!!
  5. Why dont you have a chat to your vet and see if they can do a discounted cost per bottle not per tablet! And ask if they are charging a dispensing fee. Unfortunately heart meds arent cheap, one of our clients was spending $10 a day on Vetmedin, Frusemide, Fortekor, Lanoxin.... I can tell you that Vetmedin isnt that cheap for the vet to buy, neither is the 20mg Fortekor. Are you buying the 14 tablets in the Fortekor or are you buying the 28 pack? Are you able to get prescription medications in from overseas without a script?
  6. Am interested in this Osteocare, but it didnt say on the website that it had the same goodies as Joint Guard It mentions type II collegen but it doesnt say anywhere that there is Glucosamine & Chondroitin in it like the Joint Guard? Did your vet tell you how its the same as Joint Guard?
  7. J/d is available in Australia... You're probably best off feeding him something he likes, like a nice palatable Large breed puppy food and using Joint Guard in with that. That way he is getting the diet required for a growing puppy and you're adding in the correct daily requirements of a quality glucosamine/chondroitin which will help his joints. The hills & royal canin dry foods have some degree of supplement in them for the arthritis, but there isnt enough of the supplements in there to help the joints like Joint Guard. I have been there done that with Mum's labrador!! We have kept him on something he likes to eat, and added supplement to it.
  8. From what I recall they sound like cartrophen capsules but apparently they were taken off the market because they didnt work and vets stopped using them,It looks like Sylvet are a generic version of the cartrophen capsules???
  9. They're both the same ingredient. Is you vet getting a consult/revisit fee each time you go to have the cartrophen needle? Both work equally the same. -WithEverythingIAm From what my vet said, the ingredient holds better as an injection rather than as a capsule.
  10. Definately Joint Guard - Mum has her Labrador on it. From what the vet said to us, Joint Guard has Glucosamine/Chondroitin (an equal ratio) & MSM (which works as a natural pain reliever) so is going to give you better results than Sasha's Blend that only has raw ingredients and doesnt have as much glucosamine/chondroitin as Joint Guard - from what my vet told me there is no guarantee on exactly how much is in there..... it also has shark cartilidge. Mum's dog has improved out of sight!!
  11. Do you need to get the Sylvet Capsules from the vet? Also do you get the Traumeel from St. Ives. I use Traumeel cream but I suspect the tablets might be more effective. I would be very interested if you would educate me with these two product. Thanks. I wouldnt bother with the Sylvet capsules, from what my vet has told me they arent as good as having the injections!!! You get better results from the injection! Every dog has different results to Cartrophen so hang in there until his 4th injection and see how he goes. Keep up the Joint Guard though, because it will help him long term!!
  12. Eukanuba used to make a Maximum Calorie Prescription food.... dont know if they still do
  13. Yes HD can allow for the development of arthritis, but does not always occur. The current research available shows a very high correlation between HD, being overweight and the development of arthritis. Many dogs with bad HD but were of good weight and fit did not show arthritis till much later in life (eg 13 or so years). New xrays would show if the had been any changes in the hips and if the HD had gotten worse Joint Guard can be found on the net - just search well as there are big price differences. Glucosamine is found in Joint Guard. My only concern is the high levels of Chondroitin sulphate of which very little is absorbed in the guts due to the large molecular size. Otherwise fairly good product. Technyflex can be found at various sites eg greenpet.com.au - i supply the human labelled product (exact same thing) which can also be used for animals. Joint supplements take about 1 month to take effect (and you usually give a larger dose initially and then drop down to a maintenance dose). Vitamin C - human grade is fine. Ester C is a brand that is in a format that is easier on the digestive system. You can supply the vitamin c gradually increasing the amount until bowel tolerance (ie loose stools) and then reduce the level back a bit until a better level is achieved. I would also look at an omega 3 supplement - eg fish oil (not just tinned sardines as they loose most of their oils) or flaxseed oil to help with things such as inflammation. Massage, bowen, acupuncture, trigger point, hydrotherapy, chiropractic, etc are all useful in keeping the muscles and joints in good health, better movement and providing some pain relief. If you are interested in doing some massage yourself - if you saw a therapist they should be able to show you some specific things to do to help with the problem. Gently stroking through the muscles will at least help with circulation. The main things that help with joint diseases are keeping the weight off (i prefer to see slightly under weight unless there are other medical issues involved), keeping the joints moving, the muscles strong, and supplementing to provide the nutrients for the body to stay in the best possible health. The earlier you can implement these type of things the better the result will be. Many of these i often advise as a preventative. Just thought I'd mention that the Chondroitin in Joint Guard is actually a low molecular weight so its absorption is fine. The amount of Chondroitin in Joint Guard has been tried and tested and there are many studies reflecting this.
  14. Joint Guard is a dog thing - we buy ours from the vets We use Joint Guard on my Mum's dog & we looked at the human products first & then discussed with the vets Joint Guard is the correct ratio of Glucosamine/Chondroitin for dogs. Some human products leave out Chondroitin completely, and you need both ingredients for it to be worthwhile or they dont put in enough Chondroitin for it to be effective. You might as well just buy Joint Guard - on the lid of the tub it says it lasts a 20kg dog 6 months so thats not too bad - it works out to be quite good value!!
  15. ALOVEEN ALOVEEN ALOVEEN It's the correct ph for your dog and there is a lot of research that has gone into their products!!
  16. Leo ear cleaner has been DISCONTINUED! ;) And after talking with a vet the other day, I believe Natur-Oat has been as well!! :(
