Very Worried - 6 Month Old Puppy
~Archie~ replied to hortfurball's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Joint Guard would be perfect! It has Glucosamine & Chondroitin as well as MSM We have a Labrador with HD and it has really helped him. The Glucosamine helps to build up the joints and the Chondroitin stops further deterioration and break down, the MSM is a natural anti inflammatory. You can start it at a young age and it isnt harmful at all, it means you can keep feeding a puppy diet -
Definately talk to your vet about a course of Pentosan/Cartrophen injections & starting Joint Guard My dog is a new dog after having Pentosan & Joint Guard ;)
-
I have tried Sasha's Blend and my dog didnt respond at all to it. We have the dog on Joint Guard now and the dog is like a new dog. PLUS it doesnt smell at all, Sasha's Blend stinks!! My dog had a course of Cartrophen and was put onto the Joint Guard shortly after and he is mobile, active and PLAYFUL, he never was before, it was looking grim for him, but now he is improved!! From what my vet told me, you need an equal amount of Glucosamine to Chondroitin for it to be effective. Which is why he is recommending Joint Guard. Looking at the ingredients of my tub and the list of ingredients on the Flexicose, they pretty much the same ingredients, but Joint Guard has more Chondroitin, which is pretty important.

Hills Science, Eukanuba Or Royal Canin?
~Archie~ replied to austen's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I've always found Hills food to be very unpalatable... I have fed Royal Canin for years and have been very happy -
I dont know if this works for dogs, but I used to use Apple Cidar Vinegar in horses I added it to their food

Jointguard (or Other Powder Suppliments)
~Archie~ replied to Malamum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I just give it sprinkled over her meat, I dont give it twice a day, I just give it once a day.... Last time I was in stocking up, the vet nurse told me that there are joint guard treats coming, they had some on order, I am going to get those next time, because my girl loves treats! They gave me a sample and she LOVED it!! -

Have you tried Joint Guard Glucosamine on its own isnt as good as using a Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM combination like Joint Guard Sasha's Blend has raw ingredients so it isnt as strong as Joint Guard, I used it on Mum's dog and it didnt have any affect, but responded really well from Joint Guard -
Rear Leg Problem - Cavalier **update**

I wrote in another post.... Mum's Labrador has Hip & elbow dysplasia, we have tried everything, Rimadyl, Cartrophen injections, Joint Guard, joint foods etc He has thrived on Joint Guard, he didnt need any rimadyl over the winter months, which is a massive break through for him as he is quite severe! He is like a new dog!! He has the cartrophen injections every 12 months and a top up if he needs it, and he has his Joint Guard powder every night! -
Mum's Labrador has Hip Dysplasia, we opted not to operate because he also has elbow dysplasia and it was going to be too much for him to cope with! We have him on Joint Guard & since putting him on it, he is like a new dog!! It's Glucosamine & Chondroitin! We live in a cold area and he coped on Joint Guard alone this winter, previous winters he has struggled and was on high doses of rimadyl!! Using Joint Guard would definately help your dog in the long term and in the lead up to the operation!

She is not stiff, but could i still use the Joint Guard as a prevention? She will love the treat, thank you!! There is no harm using it in an older dog
-
I've got a senior dog, and I have started her on Joint Guard because she is a little stiff from time to time, she has picked up and is more playful The Vets called me today to tell me that there is now a Joint Guard treat, because they knew my little girl LOVES treats!! I also have her on Fish Oil for her skin, I give her 1 per 10kg, that was the dose the vet recommended!!
-
The dose for fish oil is 1 capsule (1000mg) per 10kg daily

It was about $4 - $5 for postage, I cant recall I was talking to a friend who bought them direct from her vet, so I guess it depends where you live -

http://www.vetstop.com.au/Shop/shopexd.asp...959&catid=2 This has been advertised on here recently, I ordered some for my Boston cos her skin is a bit dry. It worked out cheaper to buy them online than buying them at the health food shop!!! -
Blackmores Gloucosamine (hcl)/chondroitin/msm
~Archie~ replied to Jean26's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
MSM is a natural anti inflammatory Joint Guard definately works out cheaper than giving the human ones, Mum's lab is on Joint Guard and we did the maths & discussed it with the vets, you end up giving more of the human on (as someone else mentioned!) -
Joint Guard has vitamin C in it... www.vetshed.com.au has Joint Guard
-
We are using Joint Guard on Mum's labrador who has hip & elbow dysplasia. We live in a very cold area & he used to live on non steroidals, this winter he hasnt had ANY, he has just had Joint Guard and he isnt limping and is very happy!!!
-
Well Glucosamine helps to reconstruct the damaged joint, and keeping the remaining cartilage cells healthy & Chondroitin blocks enzymes that break down the cartilage. From what I have read online there are studies that show that a combination of the two works best together. Makes sense doesnt it? Whats the point in reconstructing the joint, when there are enzymes that will break down the cartilage that has just be rebuilt?
-
There is no point in using Glucosamine on its own, a combination of Glucosamine & Chondroitin works best.
-
Have used Joint Guard and it has the correct amount of Glucosamine & Chondroitin for use in animals. I looked at using the human products, but it wasnt the right amount for a dog, it worked out to be a higher amount of powder. I am a Joint Guard convert, have seen brilliant results on Mum's Labrador & Cattle Dog. Joint Guard is reasonably priced, it says on the 400g tub that it lasts a 20kg about 6 months.

Sometimes when dogs are arthritic, they will lick their limbs or the area that hurts.
-
www.jointguard.com.au You can buy it from your vet or from somewhere like vetshed.com.au It's a Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM product especially for dogs! It's probably cheaper than buying straight shark cartlidge too!
-
Where do I get this? I am also going to try fish oil vitamins. Thanks everyone for replying, it is all appreciated keep it coming as much info as poss pls everyone I dont have a crate but she is confined now and resting. Supermarket for human stuff e.g. Glucosamine and chondritin. JointGuard etc. for dogs. Sorry, I'm sure about dosages? Joint Guard is Bovine Cartlidge. Cartlidge contains Chondroitin in it.
