Mum's dog is nearly 10, he has been on Joint Guard for nearly 18 months, the pentosan injections have been going on for years though
-
Mum has a Labrador with elbow dysplasia, we opted not to operate on him. We have tried a few things and he seems to be going really well on what he's on now. He has pentosan courses every 6 - 12 months and is on joint guard everyday. We use to just have him on rimadyl or metacam, but he would still pull up sore every so often and especially in the cooler weather. He has a limp every so often if he has been racing around with the 4 other dogs Mum has, but you cant tell otherwise.

www.jointguard.com.au It's glucosamine & chondroitin with MSM The website has some good info on it
-
I asked my vet about doing this and its not recommended. The vet said that horses absorb glucosamine & chondrotin at a different ratio to dogs & cats, so you would be underdosing the Chondroitin and giving too much Glucosamine.

I have got a dog that has luxating patella as well as partial cruciate tear. I did a 4 week course of pentosan injections and am now using joint guard as a long term measure to help the joints Since starting the joint guard she is like a new dog, and she is weight bearing on all 4 legs

Have a look on ebay, as sometimes they pop up on there! These two are terrific: Veterinary Nursing 3e Lane and Cooper Dictionary of Veterinary Nursing 2e Lane I have them (too good to part with)

I've got a Boston terrier with a partial cruciate tear, she tore it about 8 weeks ago. She had a 4 week course of pentosan injections and is on joint guard and she is now completely weight bearing. We couldnt cage rest her as she was going mental, but out of the cage, she limited her activities She is racing around on 4 legs now and is doing well, I'll keep maintaining her on joint guard and hope that it doesnt completely rupture.

Nope, its not an over the counter product. Neocort has cortisone in it, so its completely different to Panalog

The brown bottles are pretty old now... so I'd check the expiry and chuck it if its expired.... -
Our older guys get Joint Guard powder, one of them gets Joint Guard liver treats. They also get Fish Oil (the one that was advertised on here recently)

My dog has arthritis, and has a course of Pentosan injections and I give her Joint Guard every day. She is doing really well on that combination. She also has a comfy bed which is raised off the ground

There is a product called Denosyl, we had a dog with liver issues and the vet put her onto this Google it

Old Dogs Who Can't Be Anaesthetised
~Archie~ replied to hortfurball's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Depending on how good your dog is, perhaps ask the vet if they are prepared to give the teeth a quick scale if you can hold the dogs head and lips out of the way. Some dogs tolerate that -
Vets In Northmead/baulkham Hills - Sydney

Without a doubt, Lindsay Hay at Baulkham Hills Vet -
From what my vet told me, MSM has the same sort of action as the Green Lipped Mussel, its a natural anti inflammatory. Without the hideous smell! $95 for 360g for Glyde!! Wow that's seriously expensive!!

We have our dogs on Joint Guard and its amazing! The vet explained to us how Joint Guard & Sasha's Blend differed, I cant recall exactly what he said, but basically Joint Guard is purified Glucosamine & Chondroitin which change the joint, where as Sasha's Blend is a raw product with shark cartlidge and it doesnt work as well as the purified products. Joint Guard also has MSM which is a natural anti inflammatory

Paralysis Ticks In Sydney - Which Suburbs Have Them?
~Archie~ replied to kbo's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Basically anywhere there are possums or bandicoots But generally the coastline but can go anywhere from the coast to the Blue Mountains -
There is no harm giving Glucosamine/Chondroitin as a preventative. We have one dog on Joint Guard as a preventative, because she is older and still really active, loves to run with us.

Glucosamine Tablets For Hip Dysplasia

Joint Guard!!! The 400g tub has a sticker on the top that says it lasts a 20kg dog 6 months. I have used Joint Guard on my own dog & a few others in the family are on it & we are getting brilliant results!! -
I'll second Joint Guard, I have also tried everything (including Green Lipped Mussel) and Joint Guard was the only one that works!! We have a total of 6 dogs on it in our whole family & they're all doing extremely well!!

Natural Sources Of Antihistamine?
~Archie~ replied to laffi's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Green Lipped Mussel is an Omega 3 - in that its a natural anti inflammatory So Fish Oil would work as well!! -
Vet Recommendation In Asquith Area
~Archie~ replied to Peachie's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hornsby & Asquith are both terrific If you're after someone really experienced with greyhounds and willing to travel, definately either Vineyard or Quakers Hill (well known for their greyhound experience) -
Keep her lean and feed her a balanced diet, you can also use a joint supplement like joint guard as a preventative.
