  1. I use Paws & Claws Fish Oil capsules from Nature Vet. Archie loves them
  2. Joint Guard has no smell or taste Mum's Lab gets the powder & my boy gets the treats in his kong every morning
  3. ask the vet about using Denosyl, I have seen it used in dogs with liver issues and it has really helped support the liver and help the patients appetite & general wellbeing.
  4. Joint Guard works out to be more cost effective, you do a loading dose for 4 - 6 weeks and then drop it back. If you were to dose Sasha's Blend to the therapeutic levels of Joint Guard, you'd be feeding bucket loads of the stuff!!! Sasha's Blend recently had a 50% price increase too!!! We get Joint Guard from Greyhound Products Direct as well.
  5. All the best with your chosen breed... If you chose a Golden... don't forget to drop by in our breed thread... we love puppies!!!
  6. As a vet nurse I remember a Golden coming in that had done the exact same thing!!! As someone who has had Goldens since I was 5 years old, we have been blessed with some wonderful Goldens over the years. We have raised them as family dogs and they have adapted really well into our family. My husband & I bought our first Golden together (his first) to be a family dog and he is turning into the most wonderful member of our family (we have no children), extremely loyal, friendly, loves to please us, gentle (with a hint of boisterous puppy play!), intellegent and just loves people. Putting my vet nurses hat on, I have seen more narky GSDs than I have Golden Retrievers
  7. I also feed the Nature Vet brand Fish Oil capsules, he goes crazy for them. He had bad skin & coat and it is now shiny and healthy
  8. My Golden Retriever loves his Canine Genius toy... shove food in and 4 weeks later he is still trying to work out how to get the food out... hours of entertainment!!
  9. The Chondroitin in Cosequin & Joint Guard too is low molecular weight so it's absorbed better in the gut than human products.
  10. My brother was at an Orange Blossom Festival a few years back, dressed in a Koala suit for part of the parade... he spotted Don Burke, and ran at him (as fast as a man in a suit could run) and tackled him to the ground!!! Personally I prefer Matty Johns "Don Kirk"......
  11. Thru vets only unfortunately, but it's over the counter product, so just bring it up with your vet that you want to try it and if they don't have it get them to order it in. It's not a prescription product.
  12. I have heard wonderful things about Denosyl for liver issues. It helps to detoxify the liver.
  13. I have been using VAM paste in my Golden Retriever and it certainly has helped improve his skin and coat
  14. I have been using Paws & Claws Fish Oil & VAM paste for my Golden Retriever, as well as Royal Canin Labrador dry food (it has a skin defense in it, the GR one doesnt) He had a skin problem about 6 weeks ago and was losing hair, this combination has really improved his coat.
  15. I can highly recommend Joint Guard, we have been using it in our family Labrador for years and he has hip and elbow dysplasia that he has had since he was 18 months old. He is still mobile and isn't in any pain. He also gets Pentosan injections on a regular basis. Joint Guard isn't expensive, we buy the 400g tub but it comes in a 750g tub as well, which we will buy next time around. 750g is about $135 which would last Sam about 9 months!! Excellent value!! We also give him Fish Oil, dosed per day at 1 per 10kg.
  16. I use to work there, I know the vets, and I know what to expect. The vets are knowledgeable, sensible and practical. They give Archie & my cat treats in the consult. It's clean and friendly.
  17. Outback Vet Shampoo, Aloveen, Malaseb or Dermcare Natural Shampoo depending on what I've got at the time.
  18. A gentle nudge, then a not so gentle nudge and then a shove. or a paw on the leg/arm/head... or a GIANT pash.... If it's toys/playtime, he goes to his toy box and retrieves a toy and stands there looking hopeful....
  19. I know some people have added Thrive D powder to the dogs food and it has stopped them from eating poo.
  20. If you're using it as a tick preventative, you can reapply it in 2 weeks time
  21. Joint Guard doesn't have Omega 3's in it. I would assume it's low protein because it's so purified, perhaps call Nature Vet and confirm that.
  22. I have the opposite problem, my cat stirs up the dog!!!
  23. Archie has a pile of sand he digs in, it's just sand left over from renovating our house and he loves it, he buries his bones in it. Archie also has a Canine Genius toy, he prefers it over his Kong. I put liver treats, liver cookies... whatevers going in there and he loves it... You can put a blown up balloon in the hole and when she digs it's meant to pop and scare her... don't know if it works, but I've had vets recommend it over the years.... I also get Archie GIANT bones (they're the size of my thigh bone!) they weigh about 2kg, one lasts him a week, he is constantly chewing it and carrying it around. It's too big for him to bury, so he doesn't even try!!!
