When I took my 2 dogs to the vets the other day for their annual vac's the vets mentioned the heartworm vac I usually get them also had gone up a fair bit and worked out at approx $120 per dog(german shepherds)so I decieded to go back on the monthly tablets. Years ago I used the Heartguard chewable ones and just wondered if there is really any difference between the other brands( other than the heartguard ones being soft and chewy)as I noticed there is a valuheart one that is super econimical Are any brands actually better than others or do they all do the same job??

Thankyou for your suggestions She's not stressed in season or on any medications She normally gets a fish oil supplement and I'd just started her on flaxseed oil, used to get vit c but recently run out.Is fed Artemis Adult plus chicken carcass/bones etc Am mainly concerned about the amount of exercise she should receive. We've recently started agility, while its not full on at the moment it will eventually get there. She normally just receives a 1/2-1 hour walk a day and normally very lazy the rest of the time

While at the vets the other day for their annual vaccanations my almost 6 year old shepherd was diagnosised with a heart murmur. Vet didn't go into much detail other than saying he'd note it and keep an eye on it and to let them know if she starts coughing etc Is there any other information I need to be aware of when owning a dog with a heart murmur in regard to exercise etc

one of my dogs is dog agressive so i only walk one at a time.I have tried to get her to 'watch" me when another dog is near but she tends to turn her ears off at that time so now I just shovel food into her and it seems to be working. The other day I had chicken feet hanging out my treat bag, just popped a chicken foot in her mouth and she's to busy munching on it to be bothered about other dogs and starts relaising other dogs means I get really good treats

Grabbed the dogs some linseed meal the other day as sit seems a lot cheaper than the oli but wondering how much you would give a 30kg size dog?

Different Behaviour Away From Obedience Classes
4 Paws replied to 4 Paws's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Even the 1st week we went to classes she had no problems with any dogs so that has me dumbfounded, all the dogs were unfamiliar to her -
One of gsd's who's nearly 6 years old has been attending obedience for some of this year and going quite well. She is very friendly to other dogs at training, generally giving them big face licks when she meets them,no sign of aggression at all but I've noticed while we are out walking at home when we come across another dog her breathing increases and if she gets close enough she'll give them a sniff and than snap at them,no barking or growling, baring teeth or anything. Anyone have any ideas why the different behaviour would occur away from the training grounds?.A month or so ago at the beach she snapped at a dog that got in her face as well.I am dumbfounded as she is so friendly at training..We've also recently started at agility so I'm at bit worried about her behaviour now

I have another possible person form my local obedience club that may be interested in attending if it's at Sutherland or similar

I was the same when I discovered them at the fish markets.I did buy them but my dogs wern't terribly impressed with them.2 dogs ended up eating them but the other one just layed beside it and wouldn't eat it I'm sure you'll be able to get them easily around Sydney at the fish markets. There's also www.justfood4dogs.com.au that delivers around Sydney that you'd be able to get fresh bones/mince delivered

Using A Rotary Tool (dremel/similar) To Trim Nails
4 Paws replied to kaywoman68's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I brought a Sontax brand 60 piece mini rotary tool set from Bunnings, only cost about $18 or less. Its great,is rechargable so is cordless, no batteries to buy and can be used with the cord if you happen to forget to charge it I did have one of the Dremel golf cleaning ones that takes batteries but trying to do 2 large dogs nails with it you'd have to keep replacing the batteries in it is same as this one http://cgi.ebay.com.au/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?Vi...amp;refid=store -
Are they still available?might be interested My lot are currently wearing tick collars and are due for renewal early Jan

I give a supplement that contain the essential fatty acids EPA and DHA. Fatty acids are easily destroyed by the processing of commercial dog foods and deficiencies lead to dandruff and dry coat, which in turn can predispose to the 'itchy dog' syndrome

I remember seeing that episode. Can you please refresh my memory on quantities & how they're made. At my obedience club we use Chunkers. Available from the fidges at Coles & Woolies. They're like little meat balls & easily break into small pieces. And the dogs love em. This one? Ingredients 2-3 cups finely chopped/minced fresh parsley 1/4 cup finely chopped carrot 1/4 cup grated Mozzarella cheese 2 tbsp vegetable oil (preferably olive) 2 3/4 cups wholemeal flour 2 tbsp unprocessed bran flakes 2 tsp baking powder 1/2 -1 cup water Making your very own dog biscuits is fun and only requires a little effort. They make great presents for friends with any breed of dog and they are healthy to boot. With all that parsely your dog's breath will smell just great and there's a stack of Vitamin C and iron there as well! Step 1 Preheat the oven to 180C. Lightly grease 2 baking sheets or put baking paper on them. In a small bowl mix the parsley, carrots, cheese and oil. In another bowl, stir together the flour, bran and baking powder. Add the parsley mixture and stir well. Gradually add 1/2 cup water. Mix well, adding more water if needed to make the dough moist. Knead for 1 minute on a floured surface. Step 2 Roll the dough to 1cm thickness. Using a small dog-bone cookie cutter, or even a glass if you don't have cookie cutters, cut as many shapes as you can, re-rolling the scraps. Put them on the baking sheets. Bake for 20-30 minutes, or until biscuits have browned. Cool on a rack. The biscuits will harden as they cool. Store in an airtight (and dogproof) container for up to two months
