Hi Casper's Mum! I would certainly use something like that. I am sure my dogs would prefer that to the current hosepipe abuse they get at home! (ie, cold water hose while they're tethered). It would have to be affordable, easy to get to and clean.

I'm very sorry you lost Monty. 15 is a great old age and you did your best for him. He will live forever in your mind.
-
Poor little Apollo. He is safely at the Bridge, chirping his beautiful canary song, waiting for the day when you're with him again. I am sorry for your loss Meg.
-
Hi Gummiebear. I am so sorry for your loss. It is always very hard losing our precious pups. Could you please tell us what a Canigen vaccination is? Is this for a specific condition?

I have a friend who's rottix has long nails and no vet will touch them as she gets very anxious. The dogs get walked on the road often and I think that helps keep them short. Amhailte, my dogs are driven to their park, they run like little devils for 30-45 mins and get driven home, passed out from exhaustion. So you see, a dog doesn't always have access to concrete to get some decent exercise!
-
I have heard that if you trim the tips of the nails every week, the quick starts to recede. She could try taking him on long walks on concrete or somewhere where he can climb rocks, etc. That's a natural way of filing them down. Again, this takes a while to work but maybe just as well if the quick is up to the nail tips.

I'm so pleased Arish has been seizure free. I don't know about you but my ear is tuned into Casper at all times. If I just hear a scratch on the floor I turn to see if he's seizing but dufus is usually rubbing his face with his front dew claws or rolling on his back! It's great that you're taking Arish to the neurologist. I'd love to hear what he says as I have not taken Casper to one. I can imagine his breeder not wanting to know. It's the only way she can claim ignorance. I really wonder if none of her dogs has had it or if she's just keeping that info to herself.

Has Arish had more seizures since you started posting? Has your vet done the blood test that checks if the meds are at a therapeutic level? Just keep your wits about you with your vet and look around if you are having doubts. Best of luck to you and Arish. Please keep us posted.

It is scary, isn't it? I don't know about you but it makes me feel grateful ours is such a mild case of epilepsy. The saddest thing is when a pup you have been reading about for months, goes to the Bridge. Have you decided what you're going to do next? Are you going to stay with the same vet? May I ask what the dosage of pheno that you're using is? Just being curious!

I'm so sorry for your loss Jodie. He really was gorgeous.

Do you feed him grains? I know a lot of people switched their dogs to raw only and eliminated all grains and have seen a big improvement in their dogs epilepsy - some have even been able to reduce their dogs' meds. I don't know if Eagle Pack has grains, I assume it does as all other kibble I know of does. As I said, have a look at the website I mentioned and even join the group so you can ask questions there. Please let us know how you go. Good luck!

18??? What a great innings she had! That's an adorable pic of her, Rozzie. I hope your happy memories of her last forever.

Hi AP, I'm so sorry Arish has epilepsy. It is horrible watching your pup go through seizures. My boy, Casper, is epileptic. We are very lucky that his is a mild case. He had 7 seizures over 5 months before the vet suggested we put him on Pb. This was in May and he has been seizure free since. If I was to mention that my usually hyper, happy dog was lethargic since starting meds and the vet said the dog was lazy, I would be looking for another vet so fast, he would be choking on my dust. Yes, pheno does make a dog lethargic. The initial side effects (lethargy, hunger, thirst, etc) is called ataxia (anyone correct me if I'm wrong!) but he should be able to overcome them. Maybe Arish will be groggy until you find a happy balance with his meds. One website I MUST recommend is http://www.canine-epilepsy.com. Have a look through and join the group. There are people there who have been fighting this illness for ever and can advise you as to what you should be looking for. Can I ask what you feed your boy?

Oh Cass, that is dreadful news. So suddenly and so young. I am shocked at how easily and quickly you can lose a pup and will now panic everytime I put my two out for the night. My thoughts are with you.
-
Oh Axxl, what a beautiful dog. I am so sorry you lost him so suddenly. My thoughts are with you.
-
Oh no, how awful. I am so sorry you lost Toa in this way, without warning or sufficient time to say goodbye. My heart goes out to you. Rest in peace little Toa.
-
I bet he was impressed  I'll be interested to see how you go with the flea bombs as I've never actually used them myself. I was about to use them once but we ended up moving house instead (and not because of fleas )
-
Mel, try putting some Advantix on OH and see if he stops getting bitten  Just kidding! I'm afraid I can't help you - I find it strange that he would be getting bitten and you not. Maybe try using a couple of flea bombs in the house and see if it helps. You can buy them at the supermarket but read the instructions very carefully.

Oliver Is Sick (now Is Fine
White Shepherd mom replied to KOE's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I am so glad Oliver is ok. You had every right to be worried considering you had a puppy with parvo at your place just before Oliver got sick. Silly boy was just making sure you love him! -
me again, wanted to share this pic. This was Bella's first day with us so having each other to play with was a big novelty!
-
as an aside to my original post, aside from the clam shell I also have a water bowl available as the angels have a way of running through mud when they're wet and jumping back in the clam to cool down. At least their bowl still has clean water in it!
-
that sounds so cute! I too have a clam shell filled with water and Casper lies down in it when he's hot. Bella walks around in it, sticking her head under water and snorting! They have too much fun in it! Have you thought about buying a water bowl which self-fills from an overturned bottle? I have seen them at pet shops but I'm sure you might find them cheaper on e-bay or something?

I used to have Casper on Supercoat as a pup and he had a very bad tummy from it. Have you tried eliminating all grains from Minx's diet? That includes any rices, pasta, oats, etc. Also, eliminate any kibble as I believe they all have too many grains (if someone knows of any that don't, please share!). Have you tried an elimination diet in case it is something she's eating that she's allergic to? Have you done an internet search to see if you can get some info?
-
bg, sounds as if you have everything organised! Well done! How are the kids enjoying it? Why are you using oats if you don't like them? And may I ask what the gelatine is for?

Chicko, although I've answered your question via PM, I thought I would copy it here so your question doesn't hang in the air! I make their food once a week and pack it into 1L takeaway containers - I use up one a night and store them in the fridge. When I feed them, I pour a little hot water just to take the chill off.
