  1. Which vet do you go to BG? Here's hoping it's something really minor...let us know
  2. Julie-Anne. I don't agree with them charging you for talking to the vet. It was not a consult and they know you'll very likely be there many more times with both your dogs. Six months ago I went to my vet without Casper to discuss his epilepsy, diet, what to do next, etc. I must have been there half an hour. All I paid for was one Heartgard tablet as we were changing his heartworm meds as well and I needed one tablet only to see if he'd react to it.
  3. have you decided what you're going to do? Have you done an internet search on myxosarcoma (I've never heard of it). Poor Jenna, it's not nice getting old. Thinking of you all. Let us know what's happening, please...
  4. I just love it when a dog that has had a tough life gets to spend its final months being loved and spoilt. Good on you for giving her the life she deserved and letting her leave this world with love in her heart. Rest in peace sweet Tara.
  5. Julie-Anne, I don't know what to say. Jenna has had such a long life full of your love and devotion. What a lucky girl she has been. Now is the time to spoil her a little more. I don't know what might help and what not but I wanted to send you this link for a diet for dogs with cancer, if you want to try it: http://b-naturals.com/Jun2004.php and http://b-naturals.com/Sum1998.php I am devastated at your news and my thoughts are with you all at this difficult time. Be strong for your girl but also make sure you look after yourself. Hugs
  6. Oh Katey, I know how hard it was for you to post about your babies. Well done on being brave enough to do so. Maya is probably with your babies now, they are cuddling up to him and feeling all the warmth and love he gave to you. He did his job on earth, being your love and support and now he's continuing what he does best with your little ones. Think of them all fondly but don't be sad. You will see them all again one day.
  7. What a lucky little girl she was, living out her final year in such loving care. It would be a pity if all the love you have to give does not find another little one to embrace. I think you should get another one (even though you have your two bigger pups!). Faerie would be pleased to see her mummy happy again.
  8. Julie-Anne, please don't fret until you know either way. Lots of hugs to you and Jenna, I will be thinking of you and looking for your update.
  9. Hi Julie-Anne, I'm also curious as to what the vet said. I hope it's nothing serious
  10. Oh girl05, how awful. Have you done some internet searching to find more information? You must be so upset. Try not to let your feelings out when he's around. You don't want to be upseting him since he won't understand why you guys are unhappy. I'm sending positive thoughts your way. I hope you are able to prolong his life without him suffering.
  11. Diet aside, don't forget to brush the coat often to get rid of dirt and loose, dull hair.
  12. Happy birthday Maya, you are ageless little man. Look down on your mama, wipe away her tears and tell her you'll be together again one day. Katey, I don't know what to say. Your sorrow is so deep it fills me with dread for the day I must say goodbye to my babies. Hugs to you
  13. Rest in peace little girl. Lucy will be glad for your company, while you wait for your loved ones at the Bridge.
  14. No, Apolo, you did not kill her, you set her free. Never, ever feel guilty for the decision you made. It was the last act of love and compassion you could give her and you did it unselfishly. Yasmine will live forever in your heart and mind. You have your other two dogs to give all your love to now. I wish them a long and happy life, in your arms. Hugs to you.
  15. Hi Megs, I'm so sorry your pup is epileptic. There have been a few topics on this forum regarding epilepsy. Have you done a search on DOL? Also, there's this brilliant website http://www.canine-epilepsy.com/ with stacks of info as well as a group you can join to ask your questions. There's a lot of people on there whose epi dogs are 100 times worse than most of us can imagine so they would be able to help you. My dog's first two seizures were a month apart. Seizure 6&7 were 2 weeks apart. This is when my vet put him on phenobarbitone. This was in May and he has not had a seizure since. Don't dismiss the meds too quickly. If you can stop the seizures, in the future you can look at reducing his dose. Best of luck to you and let us know how you go.
  16. that was a beautiful tribute for a beautiful pup. I am so sorry for your loss. I bet she will have lots of stories to tell you, when next you meet again and she will once again run by your side.
  17. did you write that yourself Bodacious? It's so good, I thought it might be copied from somewhere. I still have goosebumps. RIP beautiful Jess.
  18. I'm curious, why would the vet give two Carprofen meds - would they not do the same thing?
  19. Hi Holly, Thanks for the reply! Casper's had tummy troubles on and off since day 1 so I agree with you that it's probably IBS. As a pup we had him on Pedigree Principal and he had loose stools so we swopped to Supercoat with no joy. The vet put him on SD for sensitive tums and that didn't help either. It was finally IAMS that got him right. The IAMS is a small part of his meal, the rest is made of raw/cooked food. I had him in perfect order until we moved here and although I'm feeding the same food, his stools are no longer constantly firm (sometimes they're pure liquid). He's probably suffering from stress or something! What is Supercoat Special as opposed to Supercoat?
  20. See? All that panic for nothing! I'm so glad the old girl is fine. Your dad has the right idea about PTS if she's in pain but it's great that they went through the effort of making sure first. Here's hoping she sticks around for many more years!
  21. What an excellent idea...and oh, so hideous I just loved the photoshoped image! Would Bear rip up a mattress as well - those flat ones you get from Petbarn. You could also put his current bed just to the side of the door and if he uses it, buy him a second one for night time.
  22. Hi girl05 and welcome to DOL. I'm very glad you found a new vet who took your sick dog seriously. I would definitely NOT be returning to the original vet and in fact I would send them a strongly worded letter about their lack of service and professionalism. Imbecils. I'm sure your dog will be fine now that he's getting some help. Please let us know how he goes.
  23. My black/tan GSD used to have them. They grew to the size of a 10c piece and no bigger. Casper does not have them and he lies on hard surfaces all day, only sleeping on his soft bed in the evening. You say Bear sleeps by the door during the day, can you not put a doggy mattress or something there? He might like the option of something soft to lie on. Maybe even a folded towel would be better than nothing.
  24. If my dogs ate human grade food, the people in the house would only be able to afford to eat Petbarn mince. I would have loved to feed them the good stuff but at this point it is not a financial option! As I said before, I had no problem with the Petbarn mince but when I came to Perth, Casper had the runs for about 4 months. I had no idea what it was. The vet's only suggestion was to feed him chicken and rice...thank you very much. I worked it out by accident. He gets the runs from chicken. Never had that problem in Sydney. Even human grade - like drumsticks, etc from the deli give him the runs...what did the vet know, huh? He also gets affected by eating bones often. In Sydney, he had a bone of some sort every day. Here, he can just handle one a week. Bella on the other hand is as tough as always. You could feed her a rotting carcass and I reckon she'd be perfectly fine!
  25. Hi Ange, may I ask where you buy your meat from? I used to buy mine from Petbarn in Northmead and in 3 years, never had a problem...and that is quite a feat with my boy... Could someone please tell me what scours are?
