As soon as I picked Jorja up we started training. Befinning with the most important Toilet training followed by wait at the door, sit instead of jumping up, come on lead, seek, retrieve, give, stand, leave it etc., etc. She is so responsive for a little while and then it's "up Yours" with a look that could kill if she was capable of doing that. She is such a joy and I love her interaction with Gambit and Max and of course me.

Reading your message makes me wonder if it was a puppy or older puppy or Class 1 you were watching. My reason for saying that is that the dogs being put on the mat is to get the dog to understand the word Calm. How often would we like our dogs to drop calmly while we are talking, watching or whatever. Did you ask someone about the class/es. Maybe you would have had an idea of what the lesson plans were. Asking the handler of the boisterous dog to sit outside the circle was because the dog would be too distracted in the class if made to stay in the circle. As dogs are Pack Animals, the dog will soon learn that if it calms down it will be able to join the pack. Ignore bad behaviour, Reward good behaviour is better than yelling at the dog when it has done the wrong thing. I look forward to reading your updates on this class. I would also like you to have a talk to the Head Instructor/Instructor to find out what the class is about.

I've found that dogs normally tell a puppy when it has lost its puppy licence by giving a little growl to say "Hey enough"

I'm thinking about getting another dog to be a friend to Gambit. After seeing that video I am definately going to get a pound dog. Not the pedigree puppy I wanted.

Thanks for you birthday wishes for Gambit. At present he isn't too happy as a man is cutting down an apple and two plum trees outside the unit. It seems unreal that Gambit (Poruse Diamond Dealer) has been my furry friend for almost 5 years. The clown of his litter has been an absolute delight to be with. His constant talking has many people laughing and wanting to hear more of his conversations. I, on the other hand, have to tell him in no uncertain terms that I he is not going to do it right now. I've had dealings with people who can communicate with animals, alive or passed on. It has been and continutes to be an amazing journey. In a group situation one person's animal was pointed out as having problems. The conversation was just spot on for this person. I feel so sad when I read about people who have tried to get a communication only to find that the communicator was a lot of hot air.

I've been ging to make a coat for Gambit with a sign on it "I'm an Aussie, NOT a Border" Instead I ask the people to wait until I turn him around and then they say, He's not a Border, What is he. "He's An Australian Shepherd" I say. What's an Australian Shepherd? Ummmm they are stockier, clowns of the dog world, love everyone etc., etc

Thanks for taking JJ in and giving him time to let him get used to the new enviroment Mutt Lover. Gambit is still not himself since his friend Miss Annabell went for a run over the Rainbow Bridge on 11 Jan 2010. So I can understand how JJ would have been feeling being taken away from his mate. Gambit and I are working on Drop on recall Fronts MY hand signals and Body language Pushing a ball to be able to score a goal Climbing a ladder Left About turn Change of position Stand for exam Lots of other tricks are being worked on extending the time The exercises for Gambit are nearly complete as we are going to enter Warrnambool this year in our first Open Trial. Who else is brushing up on training getting ready for Warrnambool

My Little Girl, Miss Annabell has gone for a run over the Rainbow Bridge where she will meet her friend Mister Scotty. No more pain now so she can control animals as she could before. Sadly Missed Wendy

Thank you all for your replies. You have certainly put my mind at ease and have given me some wonderful ideas. I can't wait to get together with the demo group to see what they think about the ideas. For a fun thing I need to ask the owner of a delightful Golden Retriever who was taking part in the fastest recall race. Her dog took off and was happily going to her then decided it would rather take a present to her. He turned around came back to the group of presents that were on the ground, picked one up and took off again to give his handler the present.

Hi all I'm after suggestions to use as part of a club's dog demonstration team including a combination of Obedience and Tricks or one or the other. I've thought of two types of teams. One that has a limited number of members with dogs that can work as a well oiled team. The other could be members who's dogs are friendly, can interact with people and children and can be good and a bit naughty at times to get the crowd enjoying the antics of the dogs. It's nearly the end of the school holidays and time to go back to training so I need some quick help. Looking forward to reading your replies attachment=201271:Gambit__...gether_2.jpg]

the club I belong too decided to run a 10 or 12 week block with two sessions a night. The Block coincides with the school terms. This way it gave the instructors a two week holiday/rest and they could either instruct for both or only one session per block allowing them to train their dogs if they wanted too. I works really well. The only downside is if the members don't read the notice board, listen to their instructor etc., etc.

Hi Collingwood I know exactly what you're talking about. Miss Annabell has had 12 drops of Valerian and is now in her crate so relaxed instead of wandering everywhere. Plus Ballarat has had a disastrous few hours with fire, Elvis and two other water bombers, wind change, rain, thunder and lightening. The thunder won't let up either. So she has both things to cope with.

Gambit is not happy as I have had to put his ball on a string and the flinging ball away as each time he turns to bring it back he stops and holds his paw up. He did it maybe two weeks ago and has been on light duties since then in sympathy with Miss Annabell. Today I thought he could be ok, so threw the ball, he got it turned around and held his paw up. On medication to see if that helps, if not then it is Xrays. He doesn't seem to have any sore spots, oh maybe on his left little toe, but who knows. As he doesn't like his front paws being touched. Between Miss Annabell and Gambit I have two dogs who are on light duties for the Christmas Holidays. My thoughts are with all those pet owners who have pets that are in pain at the moment. Today a young woman had a chook in a cat basket. It was a pretty thing and so big. The young woman was crying and I just had to give her a cuddle. She told me that it was going to be so hard for her to say "Goodbye" My heart went out to her. Another woman came in and she gave the young woman a cuddle too, than I had to give her a cuddle because she was crying. It was a very sad time at my Vet this morning as I'm sure another lady took home a pet who had just been put down. The downside of having a pet that brings so much love and joy into a home.

Thanks for the replies. Now it is back to the drawing board to see which word he would prefer to work for. I know, I'm the boss not him, but he is so cute and cuddley and does most of what I want him to do
