  1. Thanks for the replies Janba do you use any words or do you just reward the dog when it is in the correct position as you reach the pivital point at the post? I'm not sure about when you said you reward the dog irrespective of where the dog is. Can you explain please Ptolomy - The shoulder position is something I had completely forgotten about. When first training for the F8 we were told to become earoplanes and buzz arund the imaginary F8 set up. Amhailte - what does NRM stand for (I should know it, maybe I'm having a senior moment Kavik - I'm a bit worreid about using the longer steps and smaller steps when doing the F8 as I feel that a Judge could take my actions as training in the ring. What are your thoughts on that? Wendy
  2. Hi I need some suggestions on keeping the dogs attention on me especially while doing the figure 8 exercise. The main problem is when turning to the right, he checks out the area instead of keeping up with me, then the lead goes tight and we loose points. I have no problem with him in any othe part of the exercise. Looking forward to reading the replies Wendy
  3. Congratualtions Leo Puppy, Another Aussie out and about having fun. Aussie Style... aren't they supposed to be reserved - well in some situations but with people and dogs NO WAY, they have got to crutch/bum sniff anyone and everyone, they are so much fun to have around
  4. Hi HM You are a glutton for punishment aren't you Can't wait to see you with your Pharo at Agility training. Send away will be the only way you could keep up with her. Wendy
  5. I'm so glad the Trails were cancelled as I had visions of all the cars in the car park having to be towed out of the mud. I do feel for those involved including the Trial secretary, Stewards, Canteen helpers, Grounds people, Judges, catering members, those who were home baking for the weekend, the flower lady who has been providing flowers for the tables for yonks, Bar Steward, those handlers hoping to gain a title out of one of the four trials to be held over the weekend, those who were involved in orgainising the BBQ for the Saturday night, President, Secretary, Hall Manager to name some of the those were organised for the weekend. Me personally I missed out on my Banana Cake which I look forward to every Geelong Obedience Dog Club Trial. I never buy Banana cake because I can't stop at one slice. At the GODC trials I do a lot of walking so my excuse is I feel as though I work off the calories that I had put on. The rain has been very welcome but Oh well there is always next year.
  6. How exciting to hear about the VCA inugural Herding Trial. Congratulations to those who have worked together to get the Trial underway. Will definately put those dates in my calendar. Wendy & Gambit
  7. [Hi I may be interested. What sort of box is it? Hi The flyball box is the old style flat fronted one with the green stuff covering it. It's alright for training purposes
  8. Congratulations on your Track 3 pass. Now onwards to Test 4 through to Test 6 then off the the Tracking Championship Weekend. When have you entered for the Test 4?
  9. LOL - well done Gamby - haven't seen you around the obedience rings lately . I have taken Gambit out of Obedience for this year. He still isn't happy when in the Obedience trial ring after what happened to him last year at Geelong Obedience Dog C obedience Trial. We will be back in 2008. I'll more than likely see you at a herding clinic or trial before an Obedience Trial. Congratulations on your success too. Aren't Aussie's just too good at many things as well as being a delightful dog who loves the world and all that is in it. Except for when things are changed around - My fridge died yesterday and I had another one brought in without taking out the broken one. Gambit didn't like the new arrangements, he wouldn't go into the kitchen even when I rewarded him for coming into the kitchen with some yummy treats. The old fridge is sitting in the rumpus room now. Gambit is happy with that arrangement as it isn't where his food loves.
  10. Way to go Astro Boy 2 and members of the Ballarat Eureka Sovereigns I bet you had a great time at the Nationals too. How was the trip over and back? My brag is that Gambit passed his Track 1 test with a Grading of VERY GOOD even though he missed a sock. I'll let Yildiz do her own bragging, she has lots to brag about.
  11. HI I have a Flyball box, an old one that is for sale. I live in the North Geelong area of Victoria. Anyone interested in it.
  12. Hi DD I think I was one of your track layers on the day. I was hiding behind a pile of rocks and dirt on the Monday. It was an exceptional result on a day. Did your dog have a good rest after the first track? What are you going to do now that you have completed your challenge in getting your dog to achieve its Tracking Champion status. Have you thought about going to the Tracking Champion Weekend? It is a great weekend, full of fun, good company, plenty of food and hot showers. My Aussie Shepherd, Mr Gambit passed his Test 1 last weekend at Haddon. So we are after a pass in Test 2 at any of the upcoming trials. My first dog, Miss Annabell went through her titles very quickly and it wasn't until I had laid a few tracks that I realised how well she had done in such a short time.. Mr Gambit will take a bit longer so I can enjoy his tracking trials.
  13. Yesterday I had to say goodbye to my most beautiful delightful Brown Burmese Ch Porashe Debonair (Brandy Snaps). Bye Baby girl  Bye Baby Girl She was diabetic and it has been hard trying to get her insulin dosage right. The first day I saw her I wanted her but was told she was the pick of the litter and had already been promised to some one else. I went back a few days later and there she was walking along looking like a regal queen. I asked why she didn't go to her new home and was told the lady wanted the other one. "She's Mine" I said, and she was. Hubby wasn't happy as I already had two dogs and two cats but I just knew I had to have her. She had the cutist face the most perfect coat, so rich in colour, her eyes changed depending on her mood but most of the time they were a delightful shade of gold. She had a turn one night which firghtened the living daylights out of me. I took her to the Vet and he thought she might have hit her head fairly hard on something. Well that's what Brandy did, she would come up to anything and bump into it. All she wanted you to do was scratch her around her head. She wasn't like her friend Buster, all she wanted to do was to be cuddled. She was made for showing and won many a cat show.s One day I turned up to a show in Yarraville, I overheard someone saying that they wished I wouldn't just come to shows when I felt like it. I couldn't drove in the night time so I selected the shows that were within an hours drive from my home. The women needed have worried asher cat was Best of Breed on the day and Brandy was Runner up. it always depended on the judge of the day as to who cat won or who came second. Her ribbons are proudly displayed in my office. She was Best in Show at one show of which I got $50 for. I bought a letter opener with a cat on the top and had it engraved with some of the money My house is without a cat for the first time in about 16 years. Even though I have 3 dogs, Mister Scotty, Miss Annabell and Mister Gambit I will miss having my special girl to cuddle. Bye Baby Girl you will be in my heart forever
  14. Congratulations, glad to hear the news. I knew Tia could do it. Way to go CTD & Tia Were you nervous? Did you let Tia off the lead or didn't you walk in the ring with the lead? Who was your judge? Now wasn't that easy? Have you entered for Sunday? See you at a Herding Trial one day
  15. Hi Tia will blitz the HIT Test. You'll enjoy the trial. Lots of info available, lots of dogs to see, lots of different handler ways. I wish I was coming along too but I need more training to stop Gambit from splitting the sheep. It was so good to catch up with you last Sunday. Thinking of you Wendy
  16. What a worrying time for you. You are both in my thoughts. Get a blod test done then you will be able to put your fears to rest. Wendy
  17. Hey Cooper (Poruse Baby) go get em Sorry Leopuppy but have to barrack for my dogs litter mate? Anyway Go Cooper & Leo Shoow em what the Aussies can do Hey
  18. Yes that was Gambit and I. It was a very interesting morning don't you think? I learnt a lot about how the judges work through deciding how many points to take off a dog if it has not worked brilliantly. The sandwiches were yummy too.
  19. My question is: If your dog is exposed to Kennel Cough, do you let people who your dog had been in contact with know so they can look out for any symptoms? I tlloks as though my dog has been exposed to Kennel cough but my dog is showing now symptoms but another dog in my househould is coughing. Aghhhhhhh, nothing worse than an irritating cough
  20. Way to go Leopuppy04. I'm so happy for you. Another Aussie with a Title. Gambit is (well its me really) still working on it. He gained his Tracking Qualification Test pass yesterday so I'm a bit chuffed myself.
  21. Bellarine Dog Activities sell clickers, we are in Geelong. I'm sure Keilor Obedience Dog Club sells them Black Dog E-Bay Why not try a Party Shop, they could have clickers My sister who lives in the Ballarat area found some in a $2.00 shop. this was a while ago but worth a try Good Luck
  22. Hi Is it workth me entering with my 2 yo Australian shepherd He passed his Herding Instinct Test on Friday at Lancefield. He never passed the herding Test as I haven't done any training with him for a while as the nearest person who offers sheep herding classes is over an hour away from me and would dearly love to know of a person who runs sheep herding clinics in and around the Geelong area.
  23. Tiggy Contact Warren at Black dog Wear and ask him about the new harness he is testing. I have trialed it and it is the best thing I've ever used for a dog that pulls. I'm not sure whether he has completed his test yet but it doesn't hurt to ask him.
  24. Hi Pax You will be so surprised at how Chilli will automatically know what to do with the sheep. It's amazing to watch a dog that goes in with the sheep for the first time. Gambit put his head down and pretended the sheep weren't there. Latter on he went straight to the sheeps bums and had a good smell (he is known as a crutch sniffer). The next time he just did it. Oh wow what a thrill it was to see him do it. Me I'm hopeless. I have no idea what to do when I'm in the small pen. I did a workshop and was given the opportinity to work with Gambit out in a paddock. What a difference that made. Enjoy your day. Can't wait to see the results of the day.
  25. My little black dog was and still is to some degree a nasty pastie. She would have a go at any dog big or small, it made no difference to her. When on or off lead if she saw a dog she would lunge. I used a halti which made a huge difference then I found a Ezy Walker and that was wonderful too. Then one day I was out trying to trick her into jumping the 570mm height for the Agility class. I had jumps set up on the bike track at all different heights and a mountain of food to reward her when she did what I wanted her too (still wouldn't jump the 570 jump) anyway, she took off on me, I turned around and here were three dogs, off lead walking on the bike track with their owner. I immediatly thought that it was going to be her last day on this earth. I called her back to me, rewarded her, she ran back to the dogs (thank God they were well socialised dogs) I called her again and she came back wagging her tail, she was rewarded again and then she would run out to say hello to the dogs, turn around immediately run back to me etc. She did this a number of times and I thought this is good. Now days she isn't quite as bad on lead and brilliant off lead and will tell the dog to buggar off without being a nasty pastie and go off and do her own thing. By looking at the photo you'd think butter wouldn't melt in her mouth. Little Black B..... Some you win, some you loose
