  1. ANKC is the only true register for PUREBRED dogs, each member has to be registered in their state, you can ring and ask each state body if someone's registered, and you also have to register dogs with your local council and have a kennel licence. In tassie there us also a yearly check from the council and register with the council. Dogs that are ANKC should have health checks, DNA, eye checks, hip and elbow scored, and all breeds have to be up to the standard that is written. Dogs can only be bred a limited number of times and most breeders temperament test, and also are there the full life of that puppy they breed, and will even take a dog back if someone cant keep it through their whole life. These puppy backyard breeders are terrible, and they are NOT purebreds as some backyard breeders will tell you, they are mutts with a fancy name. If not registered with ANKC then they are just a mixed breed. If you have to get one make sure you ask to look at and see the parents, conditions of the place, what health tests have they done with the parents etc.
