  1. Should add I was showing not competing in agility.
  2. I think it's great having the agility ring where it is this year. I was there yesterday
  3. Are there any flight time restrictions for traveling on a weekend with my dog as excess baggage with Qantas/ virgin? I remember a post about Australian air express only flying animals before a certain time on weekends, or was this only if they were flying alone? Any links to previous posts would be great!
  4. Hi Becksy Sorry to hear your dobe has been diagnosed with dcm. As far as im aware you can only get vetmedin from a vet. With keeping your dobe quiet, I would still allow him to do daily activities, just modify the intensity and duration.
  5. We are currently trialling in ccd, 3 trials for one stellar pass, and 2fails. The last fail was in the recall exercise: my dog lay down as I was walking away, and then failed to come on command-something we've never experienced in a training situation. Normally our training is pretty spot on- Im putting it down to handler error/nerves . My question to obedience triallers is, how often do you train per week? what is involved in your training session? i would like to find the balance between not training enough, and over training! Also on trial day, how much do you 'warm up'?
  6. can I just ask what 'entries' are? Am i right in thinking the dog must always enter with the first pole on the left?
  7. thanks everyone for replies looks like i mite buy the dvd and give it a go.
  8. So we have done showing, we've just started trialling in obedience and are looking at doing agility We're starting training next term, have done some basics at home (jumps etc) One thing I want to get right ( or teach correctly) is the weavers. Whats the best way to teach a dog? What is the 2x2method? I've seen you can buy some poles for the 2x2 method, also Susan Garretts 2x2 method dvd. Any advice would be fantastic!!
  9. Thanks for the replies, have just ordered some from the usa so will see how they go!!
  10. Hi all, I am looking at investing in a pair of singleside thinning shears. Has anyone used Chris Chirstensen and what was your opinion? They are for a Bernese, pants, neck, head etc
  11. Yep for show dogs Thanks for ur info!
  12. Yep for show dogs Thanks for ur info!
  13. Hello I have a question relating to Bernese: What products (shampoos, sprays) do people recommend for berners?
  14. Take your dog to your vet. they can take an FNA (fine needle aspirate) a very simple procedure- the cells will be examined.
  15. Dobes: BOB-Ch Bravadobe Achtung Baby. RUBOB Ch Vansitar Indian Pacific Rottweiler: Wiemejer Capers Treka Bernese: Ch Cloudforest Kruger(i think)
  16. I used the phrase 'low immunity' as that is what the topic starter used. Yes the immune system can be over active ie immune mediated response.... I have been to several dermatology seminars held by specialists- thats where i get my info about demodex. I have been involved in dobes many years and never known 'low immunity' to be an issue in the breed.
  17. there are 2 types of demodex- generalised and localised. ALL dogs have the demodex mite. localised demodex can appear at a young age due to hormonal inbalances/stress, however it is NOT genetic. Generalised demodex can be genetic, however I'm sure that if one of the parents had it, you would have seen the very obvious hairloss? (often many large patches) Low immunity can be from diet/stress/environment, its not related to genetics. I'm not sure any breeder would risk breeding a bitch with a low immune system? The dog did not die from demodex, but from hemorrhagic gastroenteritis-a diasease with an UNKNOWN cause that any dog can get. If you want to contact another dobe breeder, the issues to worry about are cardio, vwd, hypothyroidism.
  18. Hi, sorry to hear about the loss of your girl. Was her demodex generalised or localised? How do you know that she had a suppressed immune system? Also, do you mean Hemorrhagic Gastro Enteritis? This is not a genetic disease and doesn't have anything to do with the immune system being low. Certain breeds are predisposed to it, but dobes aren't one of them. The exact cause is unknown, can be stress, bacteria. What did you feed your girl? There's nothing that can be done to prevent this disease. It has nothing to do with genetics, so I wouldn't hold the breeder responsible! Once diagnosed the main aim is to stop dehydration. The issues in dobes are vWD, Dilated Cardiomyopathy, Hypothyroidism, Wobblers. Hope that helps
  19. give yourself some credit too, you handled him on the day.
