I'll talk to some of the people at the club about learning the swimming turn and about the right warming up exercises.

Toilet Duck Do you read minds? I send my last post, came back and ther was yours. How was Adelaide?

Thanks for all of that poodlfan. Todd is 3 1/2 and is lean but could be fitter I guess. Does learning the swim turn help avoid injuries?

Hi My dog has just joined the club flyball team and should be entering his first comp in the near future. He just loves doing it and I love to see him having a great time. He gets bored with obedience and flyball allows him to go silly after class. Someone has just told me that nearly every flyball dog who competes ends up with injuries and I'd be mad to allow my dog to risk himself. Does anyone have any ideas on this. I don't want to risk injuring him. Thanks Sharon

Hi Bant, Sunday was my first time at lure coursing. My dog had his first run with 2 others and seemed totally lost. Toilet Duck suggested he went in on his own so he'd focus on the lure and he picked it up straight away. After that every time the gate opened he strained at his lead to get in. He ended up doing 4 or 5 runs. I don't think you'd have any problems at all unless your dog is really highly strung. The dogs that know what is coming are pretty excited but they don't all go yapping mad like they do at flyball. There's plenty of space if your worried about your dog being a bit unsure and it might do him good. When I think back on the day most of the dogs are alert but relaxed. Do your dog a favour and take him along. I'm sure you'll both love it. Sharon

Lure Coursing Melbourne 28th Aug

This was my first (well Todd's) go at lure coursing and it was a hoot. It was great to be doing something with the dogs that wasn't competitive (that I know of) and just fun, fun, fun, for them. It was really good to to meet the few DOL'ers that I did and hopefully I'll meet the rest next time. -

Come on Stffordsrule. What would you rather do, have afternoon tea with a bunch of girls or spend the afternoon with a bunch of screaming dogs? I want to meet Geordie. -

I'll apologise for my dog's behaviour in advance because I've been sick for a while and they're (Todd anyway) bound to be naughty. It'll be good to wear him out. :fetch: :fetch: :fetch: :fetch: :fetch: -

I'm hoping to be there. Lilli won't be able to have a run because she's just been spayed unfortunately because I think she'd love it Todd will have a turn. I don't think he'll get as excited as Lilli but I'm sure he'll have fun. -
I haven't read the thread so I didn't know you were going Tollersowned. I really hope we can get down there as I think Lilly would enjoy something like that. It would be great to meet you and your boys.

Hi, I'm thinking of coming down to Mel to give my dog a go chasing plastic bags. Can someone tell me approx start and finish times, how to enter or anything else I might need to know? Thanks Sharon

Hey Tollersowned why don't you bring your dogs to Ballarat on Sunday. That's our club day.

Hi Tollerblaize ;) My Toller at that age was a complete ratbag and I also started worring a little. He jumped constantly up at my 2 1/2 year old (who is just as much of a ratbag and egged him on) and didn't seem to listen to much that he was told to do. He absolutely hated loud noises and I think if I used that to train him he would have ended up a nervous wreck. I persevered with the gentle training methods which I learned at puppy pre school and he eventually grew up a little and improved out of sight. At that time I wasn't in a position to take him to puppy school but I wish I had. We started dog club when he was 2. He's far from perfect now (tugging on lead, stubborn) but he is extremely gentle and very loving to his family. When I think back to those puppy days and compare him to now it's like having a different dog. Hang in there and weather those puppy days. Good Luck  Sharon
