  1. K9 thanks for that info, I must admit I wasn't aware of that at all. I thought they were totally banned here. Just one other query, when you say a vet check, forgive me for sounding dumb, but why would you need to do that? I mean would it be like a vet stating for you that the dog does need to use an E collar? Is that what you mean by getting around the issue of the legal side of things? Thanks in advance. I just find it fascinating that the states have different rules when we are all one big country Zia
  2. Sorry to hijack, I know I shouldn't eek. But K9 I was wondering, I am in Victoria, and as you would be aware they are not to be used down here in my neck of the woods How would you deal with that? in your neck of the woods? I've heard some people cover them up so they can use them without being caught. I have never used them, never had any experience whatsoever so can't comment either way on should they or shouldn't they be used. I have to say though I never knock something until I've tried it I do think its unfair of the ruling down here though I'm sure there are plenty of people in Vic that would love/need to use one. It sucks actually I'll shutup now LOL thanks Zia
  3. awww no you poor things Has something changed for him lately? I mean is anything different in his world? This is gonna be a dumb question, and I'm sure you've probably considered it, but is he unwell? Has he hurt himself somehow? Sorry I can't be much more help. Maybe he is just in a "mood" I hope it improves for you very soon. I'm sure someone wiser than me will have some wonderful advice Good luck Zia
  4. Me too clips securely around my waist and fits everything. Ball, poo bags, keys mobile anything else i wanna take ;) Cost me 2 bucks at the 2 dollar shop..I'm a cheapskate too LOL..don't see the need to pay for an expensive one when a cheaper one does the trick perfectly
  5. Well what an extraordinarily wonderful idea Bravo
  6. With you on this, Myszka .... Me too Erny and Myszka Took the words right out of my mouth
  7. LOL I second that laughter erny as usual Amhailte cracks us up everytime Erny I thought that too when I read the OP and decided to reply. I like you figured ok if it is a troll at work there might be someone out there that just may benefit from our ideas. At least its a positive thought anyways I sincerely hope if it is a real posting so to speak that the OP comes back and lets us know how things are going
  8. Some very good information there At least you acknowledge that its owner fault that your dog has such rude manners, and commendable that you are wanting to fix the problem well done I tend to disagree sorry with what you describe as "cute". To me a dog licking my face for food and food begging, biting, demanding attention is very bad manners. I would find such dog behaviour disgusting. Aggression such as you described is unnacceptable. Someone getting bitten wouldn't fine that "cute" at all. Your dog believes he/she is king of the castle and needs to brought down several pegs. A good professional trainer/behaviourist is an excellent idea. Your dog will still be cute and playful, but believe me it will be much happier and settled when it realises its place in the family (its pack) and behaves as a much more settled doggy citizen The very best of luck and let us know how you're getting on ETA any pics of your pooch? Zia
  9. Absolutely Amhailte If you find a check chain works better then go for it. I use check chains on both of mine with no dramas Everyone has to find the equipment that works best for them, providing it is used correctly. Some people swear by them, some say no way. Some swear by haltis and some say no way. when you find one that works just stick to it and you shouldn't have any problems. Good luck :p
  10. Hows your hand? I hope you're feeling a little better Please let us know what happens at the vet
  11. awww hugs terrorbull, its really hard and scary when things like this happen. My son did this once with Kahn but he snuggled up too quick to Kahn who was sound asleep, my son squashed him accidentally and frightened him into awake mode. He snapped at my son, well i guess it wasn't a growl or snap or snarl or anthing, it was like a big warning woof as he frightened him, and pinched his skin when he squashed him. My son didn't mean too, but did get a shock. It never happened again either. I agree with the others, no more couch for the doggies. On the floor, so they remember that you're the boss. A vet check is good just to make sure there isn't a physical problem. When you say its when you move, do you mean you are getting up in a hurry? or just like moving your body or something? I was always taught never to startle a dog if they are asleep. If you want their attention or need to move, call them gently first to wake them, so they aren't startled. Sorry I can't be more helpful. I'd also not let them up on the bed either if they sleep on your bed, just for the meantime to help reinforce your position good luck and try not to stress too much. Atlas will be picking up on that too. Have a cuppa and take a deep breath
  12. Thanks from me too, Zia. It really does make a difference when people recognise that it's not just me with the cranky pants dog. Actually, feeling a lot better about it today, have finally decided what do in regards to Diesel's desexing (will get it done when obedience has it's month or so break over Christmas, and I can keep an eye on him - sure, it's the end of any showing/breeding possibilities he had going for him, but it's not like he knows that! Just gives me an excuse to get another pup someday soon!) and his training in general. I do put a lot of pressure on this pup as well as myself, probably just because I'm a perfectionist anyway and can't help it. But the main motive at all times should be to have fun with him and that's what I'm going to try to do - whether that means he can have doggy playtime or not. He'll survive. I think he thinks he's human anyway. And Melisski, you're very welcome also My two are strange dog cranky pants too LOL But they are mah babies what can I say heh Hey we can start the cranky pants club oops double post, don't know what happened there ;)

  14. Brilliantly said Amhailte ;) Some just don't like other dogs? Thats life. I have gotten over it along time ago lol As I said mine have a nice circle of friends and each other and us Mine don't miss out on any of lifes joys and pleasures. I accept mine for who they are, not what I think they should be like, or because someone I know has a dog that will happily meet and greet any strange dog.
  15. You're welcome Myska, and i know exactly what you're saying. As I said mine do too. They have a small circle of friends that they just adore. So they get romps in the park etc and walks and plays, but I accept that dogs they don't know are a no no. I too have had that bouncy dog come up and the owner yells "it's ok he's friendly" and I'm like ummm mine aren't? I just love my babies even with their faults ;)
  16. Now Now don't be too hard on yourself. You are doing all you can, and believe me not everyone has "all round social perfectly sociable dogs". It has been stated in fact that dog aggression is one of the biggest problems facing many dog owners, and why they seek behavioural assistance/training to try and overcome it. Don't be ashamed of him or yourself because he has aggression issues. You know you don't love him any less, and you will work through it as best you can. As many people on here have stated, sometimes you can do all the socialization in the world, all the training and still you end up with pooch god bless it That will just simply not like most other dogs. I freely admit that my two absolutely don't like strange dogs at all. They have a select few, friends dogs and family dogs that they get to play, romp and walk with, but strange dogs? pfftt forget it. So yeah you will accept it as he grows older and love him for who he is and whatever issues he might have But don't think you've failed him or yourself. Dogs have limitations, just the same as some people just don't like many of their own species ;) Is that him in your avatar? He is adorable, look at that face. Give yourself a pat on the back, give him a hug and don't be ashamed of him. Hold your head up high when your with him, acknowledge who he is and most of all, love him and enjoy life with him Sorry to babble just my two cents worth heh
  17. I know it might be expensive but you might have to resort to a professional to treat for the fleas. My sister had to after bombs were to no avail and her house was shockingly infestated Her cats were apparently bringing them in. She got the home professionally treated and worked very successfully
  18. Oh wow Erny doesn't that give you a sense of..well achievement that you did that for a precious life? I'm sure she flew for many years to come. Let me just say that ummm Rodney had Issues LOL my SIL spoilt him rotten though, which didn't help. I swear he had the run of the house, the dogs and cats were scared of him.
  19. LOL my ex sister in law would love you..she had one as a pet she hand reared after he fell from his nest and his mum deserted him The little @$%@$#% would fly all of us..We'd be sitting in in the lounge with all our feet up so the little blighter wouldn't take our toes off LOL She adoreeedd him though, and called him Rodney i think he almost lived for ever lol
  20. Good on you, Zia. I wish more cat owners were as like minded. I don't understand how dog owners' mentality could comprehend anything other than keeping our/their beloved pets where they're safely housed (regardless of by-laws) and out of danger, but where cat owners' mentality allows their cats the unsupervised freedom of the land, with all its inherent dangers, even though they love their moggies just as much as people with dogs love their dogs. It would also help those who appreciate and enjoy birdlife to know they're not likely to suffer the imposition of someone else's cats to torment their otherwise "bird friendly territory". Thankyou Erny I heartily concur. I know some wildlife is considered pests by many, and I must say me included. Rotten Magpies that swoop you. Pesky possums that pee everywhere and cause havoc. But in the saying that that last thing in the world I'd want is to know my beloved cat was hurting these creatures in any way. I know they are expensive, but to do it yourself, I got help from friends, is a much cheaper alternative, and safe for your cat and wildlife, and the public. If this cat was enclosed there would be no probs. And I agree our much loved dogs, we don't hesitate in keeping under lock and key so to speak. Not left wandering (well most of us do :p ) yet people forget about the cats
  21. wonderful suggestion. Squirt the little critter so he don't know what hit him LOL Seriously though wouldn't it be funny if you tripped soooo close to the fence that pusskins got it right in the Moosh!!!!!! I love Cats but mine has an enclosure Next time they have a gripe, about the noise tell them it's because their little Sylvester is teasing the dogs, and also remind them that in alot of councils roaming cats is a no no too. Then to top it off, offer them a coffee, and a tim tam and show them some plans for cat enclosures. It doesn't take Einstein to build one..
