Yes some dogs can be wrigglers to put it mildly :D . Perhaps that's why it wasn't done...maybe he gave them some trouble and they forgot to tell you.

The groomer should have been pulling out all the hair....... While I do agree with you....it can depend on the area. I have a vet in my area who requests that groomers do not pull the hair out, insisting it causes infected ears.

Isn't there a recall on Royal Canin in South Africa as well?? I wonder where THAT food is from. I find it scary that the rep had heard nothing about the American recalls! One would think they would know what is going on in their own industry when its all over the internet.

No problems at all with the door on my one The door to your bath (the bit that actually comes out)...does it have a metal edge to it or is it just the cut plastic?

Wish I got a free ramp!! That's a great deal. I have that hydrobath. Its good....but my door leaks like a sieve.

How on earth can you wash, dry and clip a maltese in 20 minutes? Let alone drop off, pickup and any dematting?

Did someone say EASTER? Family is coming over...cant have the dog looking like a mess. Just think....these poor dogs went through summer like this. I had one a month or so ago that's hair had matted around its leg. Every time it walked the hair acted like a saw and cut into its leg. Of course...it was My fault because I had been booked out at Christmas :D Just ignore the fact it could have been done any of the other 6 mths. I know that poor little dog wouldn't have got vet care, because the owner saw it as no big deal. I really hope that little dog picked a nice spot to curl up while he was clean and comfy and went to sleep....after 16 years of this, he deserves his rest.

I find cocker hair the WORST.

Great news!! Fantastic news about the monthly grooms. It'll make it so much easier to get the undercoat out especially without being able to use the drier much.

I'm sure that's probably making his skin worse but nothing you can do about it if they are going to go longer and longer between grooms. He must have been given one hell of a sedative if he's still groggy the next day! Glad you both came out of it okay. Are you still going to groom once you move or is the town too small?

Why was his hair like felt? Are you not getting the undercoat out when you wash him? If the undercoat is coming out he should be getting air to his skin so clipping him wont make any difference. Please be very careful grooming sedated dogs. I do not do them. If they need sedating they go to the vet groomer for 2 main reasons. 1. Like you experienced they can collapse/get over dosed. Imagine if he had stopped breathing! All of a sudden you are the groomer that had a dog die even if it was nothing you did. Better off with a vet on stand by. 2. Often the dogs lose all bite inhibition. You get comfy because the dog is sedated and BAM it nails you harder than it would have unsedated with you on your toes. You need your fingers to make your living. Anyway....just be careful! No shame in turning away dogs and that one had a hell of a lot of warning bells.

we have sooo many owners asking us not to make their dogs look like a poodle. normally maltese x type things. like wtf.. we can groom other styles thankyou! and we have never done these clients dogs anything like a poodle and they still say it everytime they come in. I've had people come in with poodles asking me not to make it look like a poodle! uh...what? It IS a poodle. I ask if that means they dont want the face/feet/tail shaved...."on no...we want that" So no topknot then? "oh no....we love that". Sounds like a poodle groom to me!

its not about what we want, its what the clients want. We refuse, we lose business. If you need more business you can have some of mine! Like this dog I'm babysitting after closing time because the freaking owners are 2 hours late!!!!

Is there a website that Swank should list her dog on to document the fact that her dogs tail is injured and probably wouldn't be if it had been docked in the first place? I thought I had heard of something like that.

I don't recall Brookie having said anything about the length, other than that it was shorter than previous haircuts. Brookie probably realised after she got the dog back how matted she really was, and I'm sure she'll be more careful in the future. It's hard for some owners to realise that their puppies' soft and easy to care for hair has gotten more difficult to keep knot-free, and I think you are being needlessly rude to Brookie who only came onto this site for advice about her dog's behaviour. Who knows how matted the poor pup was, too? If the groomer was junior enough to not check for her blade heat, or make sure she didn't cut any skin, then who's to say she didn't use a blade totally inappropriate for the dog's condition? I would say the blame lies totally in the groomer's supervisor, and not Brookie or even the vet necessarily! If you were a vet and hired a professional groomer, wouldn't you expect them to train their Juniors in a professional manner? Brookie has probably stopped checking this thread as it's turned into an argument about horrible groomers, vets, etc. Not because she's been abusive and can't stand to face up to it! Chill a little, people! I'm sorry if I offended you lcringo and Brookie. I am only trying to find out what happened. Or rather HOW it happened. Her dog should not have been hurt in a normal grooming. I am NOT saying the groomer/junior groomer was in the right. If it was knotty and not used to being groomed (like I was asking at the start of the thread when Brookie WAS still reading) I can then understand why it MIGHT have happened. These points do make a HUGE difference and driving 200kms to another groomer might not see a different end result. Matted dogs are at much bigger risk of clipper irritation and cuts. Doesn't happen often...but it CAN happen even to the best of groomers. That's why I'm trying to find out if the dog was only slightly matted or a walking pelt. Given the vet paid the bill and tried to make things right I would suggest sticking with them. Just make sure the REAL groomer does the grooming next time. 200kms is a hell of long drive on a regular basis especially when you dont know if that groomer is even any better. I think the best of us would even end up pushing the time between groomers out further and further if we had to drive that far.

They always seem to vanish when you ask if the dog was knotty...happens at work too when they're complaining about the previous groomer cutting the dog shorter than asked.

Why would you even bother sedating a great dane for grooming? This is one time the garden hose in the back yard would have worked quite well!

So she's only been groomed 3 times in 19 months correct? Was her coat knotty?

Brookie is 19 months and is a bit brighter tonight thanks Has Brookie been to another groomer before or just the vets? Dogcop how on earth do you drown a Great Dane in a hydrobath? That doesn't even seem possible.

I agree with everything frufru said. I know its hard but dont jump to the conclusion that the groomer is "bad". Especially when none of us but the owner has even seen it. Could be many things...was it clipped so short because it was matted? Is it just an allergic reaction to the shampoo which the groomer would have no idea about previously? Is it acting funny because everyone reacted badly to the look of the groom making the dog think it had done something wrong? Or was it just plain clipper irritation (which most good groomers wouldn't do but hey sometime #^@& happens)? Hopefully the puppy will be feeling better in no time.

Does your groomer actually have money for food? lol seriously though...think how much time is involved in those groomers and how much you must be paying them per hour...

Still could be a sheltie. A Border Collie X Sheltie....its the Maltese bit that I doubt is in there.
