How Long To Clip & Groom A Maltese/shitzu
Ari replied to Chocolate's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
$50-60 and anywhere from 1.25 to 1.45 depending on condition of coat, style and behaviour. I dont normally do them straight through though so they are here for longer. -
there is another thread further down the page with his number
-
The length change between a 5F and a 7F will make little to no difference in regards to the heat though.
-
Do you use combs as well?
-
I dropped it on concrete That's what I drop them on too. It normally involves them flying up in the air before down so they are falling even further than table height. They still rarely break but they do get misaligned and nead a trip to the sharpeners. Good thing they dont break often because I think I've dropped every blade I own at least once.

Has Anyone Had To Amputate A Dogs Leg?
Ari replied to Mushaka's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Have you tried a shoe? -
How can you accidently hang a dog if you are there with it the whole time? It would take more than a few seconds unless it broke its neck. Unfortunately there are many "horror" stories. I know of groomers who have not tied dogs up and had them jump off the table and broken legs/hit heads.

Dont ever ever ever try to catch falling scissors either!!! You'll skewer yourself. (says the person who always tries to catch falling scissors without thinking) If its a 4Skip and its not just the top cutter that is broken (they can replace that)...throw it out. Even if you could use it safetly it would do a choppy job with a tooth missing. I am surprised a tooth broke on a 4 blade so easily. I've dropped mine before. I've only ever broken blades on 7skips and 10 blades.

Yes I agree with Showdog. Find a good groomer. At least for a few times. Personally I would never groom my dog if I didn't know what I was doing. I would want my dogs to look good.

fingers crossed

So the owner of the other dog with HD actually has the sibling of your pup? You didn't say that in the first post so I'm not sure if I've got that right?
-
Good idea to keep an eye out but I wouldn't worry too much just based on something someone on a forum said.
-
A lot of the westies I groom have a similar problem. It seems to come and go. What does the skin look like in that spot? I've always assumed its allergies or something similar.
-
I actually like the after photo better. I like poodles with clipped ears (with topknot)
-
I've seen that happen to quite a few dogs I groom that are not fed livermol. It seems to happen after skin damage. Was he missing hair in that patch before hand?
-
It wasn't matted? Strange. Maybe he sat down at the wrong time while they used the clippers or scissors for his feet.
-
be careful with that. They may not pay out if you are in an accident while using the car for business purposes.

Perhaps it wasn't such a good clip at the groomers because she freaked out just like at home. Puppies are wiggly, freaky and often just plain horrible to groom. I'd be sending her to the groomers a few more times to at least get trained. If you aren't confident clipping her you could just make her worse. I like a 3 blade on a poodle for a nice easy pet trim. You do need to learn to fluff dry them properly to get a good apperance. Especially if you are going to be using comb attachments. The Wahl KM2 is a nice clipper. Its faster than the KMSS and gives a smoother clip.

Your bathroom? Seriously! Get an attachment for your bath, stick him in there and wash away.

You can lift a little dog into the bath, on to the table, keep it standing up to clip it with 2 fingers. You can not do that with a big dog so easily. My back kills after a big dog that wont stand up. I am talking about proper grooms though. Not simple dunk them in the water and lightly dry that a lot of mobile groomers do around here. Other reasons groomers might not want to do them.... They might not want the mess of double coated breeds (yep, one groomer around here refuses them because the neighbour complains about the hair escaping and too many complaints could see her shut down) They might make more money doing clips than washing/deshedding big dogs. Perhaps they've had a bad experience with the breed. There are a ton of reasons someone might not want to groom them. I actually prefer not to groom my own breed because I struggle to deal with seeing them so neglected. In the end its their business and they can do whatever they like. I do find it strange that they didn't give you a reason at all though.

Dont get mad. They're a big dog and many groomers have bad backs. Goes with the job. I dont do them anymore either.
-
bleach can damage some baths. It depends on what they are made from.
-
If its just your own dogs....using something like pineoclean would be fine.
-
Why was the patch on the back shaved for an injury on a front leg? Was something else done? Does the dog have scar tissue there?

Reason I ask: Post-clipping alopecia- Description: Hair may not grow back immediately after it has been clipped; which animals may be affected can not be predicted; more common in dogs with thick undercoats e.g., Huskies and Chows Symptoms: Continued lack of growth in hair that was clipped, e.g., for surgery Treatment: None, hair will eventually regrow, but may take up to 24 months http://www.peteducation.com/article.cfm?cl...p;articleid=421
