I Still Can't Decide When.......
dogcop replied to Joey Rocks My World's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I am so sorry for you its a terrible time for anyone knowing what has to be done. Surround yourself with dog people who understand what you are going through and take no heed of the ones that don't. I lost my big Saint 14 yrs ago today to a snake. I buried him on family land in N.E. and it was just as hot. i buried his father six months later beside him. His mum lived to 13.5 yrs she finally went in the back end and became incontinent and looked at us with that look its time. So trust me they do tell you and you will know. -
Correct me if i'm wrong but we had a Saint years ago that wasn't putting on weight like the other youngsters we were showing against. When we had a discussion with our breeder and she said we were doing all the work for the dog i.e. food cut way too small dog didn't have to work for its food so the natural growth hormones weren't released in the chewing action. We follow this principle now with good results. Also we feed the dog up off the ground so it doesn't have to stoop to eat ( large concrete block works for me ).
-
Ok something that worked for us is feeding tripe Now I believe it has no nutritional value and is purely bulk so if your dog will eat it you can substitute a meal once or twice a week. This way the dog thinks its been fed when in actual fact it hasn't. Now if the dogs won't eat it I have a wicked tripe and onions recipe ??

Why would you use Vallium Cant you get a herbal calmer that has no side effects ask an expert in herbal medicine to make one for you it aint rocket science. I use one here that has no side effects and no risk of overdose either so it is safe even if kids get it ( not that they can ).

there are a lot of good products out there in the market place that cant be bought where we would like to. When I had a pet shop I tried to get some of these products in my store to no avail and its simply called Supply Blocking. PP are experts at this as well as their headline franchise's. I use a good shampoo at the moment it is only available from safeway. After contacting the company to get stock direct not interested now stocks are not being maintained in safeway so pretty soon manufacturer will start to suffer and see the light. Maybe all too late ! I had possible orders for 15 hydrobaths that were being made in Hallam Vic at the time all I wanted was info and prices. But was told I had to go through Rova or he would spit the dummy. Pretty soon manufacturer rings to say he can supply but all way too late. This will sound familar to those in the industry !

Can Humans/dogs Pass Eachother Bugs/viruses
dogcop replied to sugar's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I have actually had this campylobacter jejuni. thought it was just a fancy name for gastro but wasn't laughing when I had it though. I was told it was a notifiable problem I.E. health dept. Suggestion that it came from chicken not cooked properly. wife would buy it for dogs but would cook it more if it was going to be consumed by us. I only ate the wings but it was enough. some say it was lucky I drive a laundry truck I don't eat chicken now unless it is served up for a meal. -
Heeeeelp - What Is Wrong With My Clipper Blades?
dogcop replied to BittyMooPeeb's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I normally rest my blades in blue kero 24/7 when not in use. Flush blade regularly in blue kero whilst working much to the disgust of john from Kramar. I get about 200 hrs between sharpens per blade. If I get a blunt blade whilst clipping I seperate the blade, put some kero on a mirror and do figure eights with the top and bottom blade then re assemble the blade. Using only blue kero as lube and flush i get no probs at all. If when working in hot weather the blade gets real hot it can be cooled by using Metho in the same maner as kero. Then use the kero to lubricate the blade again before starting to clip again. This works for me it may for others too. Before you slid your blades apart did they get hot and bind up ? If so seperate them again by taking the screws out try the kero on a mirror using figure eight motion with the top and bottom blades. then reassemble them and see how that works. Chris -
Livamol For Dogs? Anyone Used/using It?
dogcop replied to lcprgf's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
We used to give it to our ST. Bernards to enrich the Mahogany colour in their coat. ;) -
VET = VERY EXPENSIVE TREATMENT !! :D

Whilst looking on some american sites a while ago I see you can purchase clippers with an attachment that has a vaccum. So when you clip no mess which is good but looked very cumbersome. I prefer to have vaccum near whilst clipping so hair can be picked up regularly. some dogs actually like being vaccumed and providing you aren't silly with it, it shouldn't be a problem. love the Idea of using dust buster to desensatise nervous dogs. will be trying that one thankyou.

Severe Flea Allergy Dermatitis
dogcop replied to leah_da_legendWOTWOT's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Holly condees crystals may not be a good thing whilst i have been using them for years too there is currently a suggestion that they are carcenagenic. They could cause cancer I personally have not been able to find out if it is correct or not but I am not prepared to use them anymore until I find out. I will post a notice when I do or maybe some one else can answer this ? -
Any dog food with a high absorbtion rate (85%) is generally regarded as a good product. Whilst it might be dear to purchase first up you will save money in the long run because your pet will not need as much product. Its a bit like us if we go out and have one of those all you can eat smorgusboard dinners. Whilst its nice just look at the amount you consumed. (and was it really that good ??) On the other hand if you go to a resteraunt and have a quality meal, there may not be much on the plate so to speak, but you come away feeling satified you have eaten well and don't need anything else to satisfy you. The higher absorbtion products do give the benefit of less waste which has got to be a winner in my book ( 1 Saint Bernard, 7 Shih Tzu's ).

Anyone Else Give Their Dog Greenies?
dogcop replied to greentea's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Does anyone know if these greenie things could give the appearance of being like a soft plastic type substance after it has been removed from the dead animal. Thus leading to the mistaken belief that the dog had been poisoned ? -

Home Brand Cat Food (tinned Fish) For Dogs
dogcop replied to Mana's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Mana what's wrong with tomato's is there something in them that can cause problems. Never heard of anything but I know of some people that used it to try and get rid of tear staining. -
From the first comment this demonstrates how ignorant some VETS can be. What they don't know well they simply um and ah long enough and come up with a diagnosis "IT MUST BE FLEAS" $$$$$$$$$$$$$ Lets treat it with cortizone cream. Rubbing their hands together ($$$$$$$$$$$). So if you can find a VET who is a VET no an ametuer salesperson that isn't up to date with the products available. I'm sure the best and honest advice is coming from this forum so if you analize the advice given try what you think may apply and go from there. Cheers Chris

Home Brand Cat Food (tinned Fish) For Dogs
dogcop replied to Mana's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
This is a good one sounds like what I tell my clients to give them sardines etc but only buy the home brand as they are just as good. I would only tend to think that the difference between John West & home brand would be the label and oil quality. To be honest I've never looked to see if there is a home brand fish cat food but I will now ! Generally dogs don't do well on cat food because it has too much salt in it. Cats don't normally do well on dog food because it doesn't contain enough of what a cat really needs. P.S. what is Taurine in cat food ???? My wife says it a style of cooking ?? -
Mita you have turned a crap day for me into something good something I can smile about hey can we put this out on CD and call the album if we can get a few more tracks Dirty Dog Grooming. LOL
-
Mita it would make a song title too dampen the dander down LOL

DYSON DYSON DYSON yep dyson will do the job well too. not the kind of thing MM would think of though. LOL. Shih tzu's are said to be very cat like maybe in more ways than one and that could be your rash. I know its not dogs but I used to get reaction to sand worms as in fishing bait my eyes would swell up so bad i could not see at all. I mean I'm not pretty but this was scary looked like had done 15 rounds with a heavy weight boxer !
-
Strange as it sounds fleas will bite someone and not another as they will live on a dog and not bite it but all around it. Wouldn't discount the fibre glass reaction though. Maybe if you have or know of someone with a Kirby Vaccum cleaning system you might give the house a good go over,Carpets, furniture, drapes and beds too. This may fix the problem but i would tend to think that maybe hubby is bringing it home with him, do you wash his work clothes seperately to all others ?
