Looking For A Good Vet Around Portland Vic

I operate the dogwash at Portland North and i find it hard to recomend the Vets here other than emergencies. I send most people to Hamilton or Warrnambool. Cheers Chris -
Allerzeit do you have any old drums around that don't have labels on them ?? Toxic fumes from an old can of ROUND UP will kll a dog in the same way. But don't expect a Vet to be able to get the correct results back as big companies have lots to loose. They pay big bucks to protect their butts. Farmer near casterton was loosing puppies for no apparent reason other than they had HORRIFIC deaths. FARMER started getting rash on face which was what started some sqealling in the CSIRO when a human was involved. But still no warnings issued big cover up at all levels. Chris

Dare I mention using the old ACV. It may stop the itching make your dog less palatable to fleas and ticks clear up skin problems and the list goes on. ACV = Apple Cider Vinegar. Good for us humans too !! Chris

Ok I went to our local seafood retailer here to find the price of fresh crays which was $40. I then saw bins of fresh salmon like 2 kilo type at only $3.00 a kilo so I bought two of them, took them home ripped the fillets off microwaved for three mins and fed to the tribe 9 Shih Tzu's and 1 Saint Bernard. Boy what a hit it was not one bit if fish to be found little guys had one fillet Boogie had three that's fair. not a sign of what they had enjoyed for tea and all for under ten dollars. So I will be doing a bit more of that on a regular basis now .

Well I am on my Second Handi Bath its plastic and I have absolutely no problems with it at all. The first had a davey pump that never required any repair and is still in operation at my cousins place in Kyneton She is blind and washes her guide dog in it. Second bath has an Onga pump and it is good too no money spent on it since new in 99. It has faired well after taking a tumble out of a trailer landing upside down on the highway infront of a truck that thankfully was able to stop. Only damage was a broken bracket holding the motor to the frame $8.00 and scratching to plastic which has been smoothed with a dremill drill sanding attachment. Whilst these baths may flex a little I have had no problems with its operation. I would not consider buying any other type of bath as this bath is light in weight,on wheels and manouverable. Chris

I'm with Showdog clipping won't solve your problems. But proper grooming will help, I find people are often under the misconception that clipping will keep a dog cool. But dogs that are meant to have along coat can do this by proper grooming, as air flow through the coat is what is needed to keep them cool and looking good. Also feeding your dog rice and pasta with the water it is cooked in is also beneficial as it contains a natural blood coolant in it. If you can lower the blood temp a little in hot weather it can make a big difference. Just my opinion and what I do with my own dogs. Cheers Chris

Shampoo For Getting Out Grease And Oil
dogcop replied to 4 Paws's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Just a note if a product foams up too much in the hydrobath pop a dash of vinegar in the water this will defoam it. -
Doesn't matter if you are mobile, home based, salon or from vet groomers. You know what you do and if you do it well and to the best of your ability that's all that counts. Most people that give a bad wrapp wheather they are a vet or not really aren't aware of what you do. There will always be people that tar and feather you because of others mistakes. Before anyone jumps on me please note I included groomers from vets Chris

Dog Having Seizures Or Maybe Hypoglycemia

Unfortuneately we lost our boy due to a prolapsed bowl (we had to put him down) to be kind. He was actually a replacement for a faulty show dog, Chow Chows just weren't going to be for us as he had I will say unlucky problems within himself. Chris -
Dog Having Seizures Or Maybe Hypoglycemia

Isn't this brought on by not eating or drinking for a period of time "Low Blood Sugar". Correct me if I'm off the mark please. But we had a Chow Chow with the exact same symtoms. Cheers Chris -
Shampoo For Getting Out Grease And Oil
dogcop replied to 4 Paws's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Often thought of trying the mechanics hand cleaner for this type of job, but don't think the yellow stuff with the scrubbers in it would be suitable but it may well work. then back it up with normal wash proceedure and products. Cheers Chris -
Have You Ever Removed Your Dogs Stitches Yourself?
dogcop replied to SarasMum's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
I've removed the remnants of stitches that were removed by our local vets on two dogs this week alone. The stitch I removed today was the embeded not section and I wouldn't do that many knots on a hook to catch a shark. :D Otherwise the healing process was good. Chris -
Some of you may find this link interesting I know I will be trying the blood pressure remedy! Cheers Chris www.earthclinic.com/Pets/acvfordogs.html

Yep fish oil capsules are what we use to or polyunsaturated veg oil. Its not as good as fish oil. You can squeze the oil out of the cap if you need to doesn't matter how they get it.

"Sedation" that is also why the other dog got 3rd degree burns.
-
Nadia with all due respect to you may be you should come down here and show them how not to drown a great dane in a hydro bath and sorry yes it did happen as did the maltese cross that got 3rd degree burns from a heated pad that had no cover on it after the dog had teeth done. client wasn't told of what happened till he went back after four days after and was told to get over it accidents happen and sold $33 cream to put on it. not fair on a 11 year old dog and a 80+ pensioner as no doubt you will agree. I do agree with what you say about cats etc

Oh hell get me a box of tissues I have had and shown rough coat St Bernards since 1985 plus a Poodle, now we have Shih Tzu's. I take the time to clip a dog and use the correct tools that are needed. I see plenty of neglected dogs (reportable). I'm happy for you that where you work you are able to do the right thing. But are you blind to the fact there are many that don't just as there are bad groomers that don't work for vet either. Predominantly I have no faith in VETS in general and see no reason for them to participate in an area that doesn't concern them. Vets also tell us that immunisation is good every year too. Good for who ? Come on girl's admit it there are bad apples on every tree I see one every morning in the mirror !

Hey People do you get your hair cut at the doctors ? Most Vets are flat out being Vets why take your dog to them to be groomed. What do they slip your dog when you aren't there so they can make the fast buck ? The lowest cut i have had to do on a dog is a 5 whilst that is short its not so short that the dog has no dignity for god sake. Dogs have feelings and a certain sense of pride in themselves. how many of you know of a dog that has hidden its rear end because it was shaved too short and it either hurts or it is embarrassed. I have had poodles etc that have displayed this problem. Please take your dog to some one who will treat your dog with some respect after all the dog is the client it is up to you as the primary carer to protect and look after him /her. Chris

Isn't the difference between a premium food and an ordinary one about absorbtion rate ? Whilst it is important to have the correct ingredients it is also good to have high absorbtion i.e ordinary food 35%-45% high waste output. Premium food (Mera Dog ) 80%-85% low waste output. Example you only need 25% of the amount of Mera Dog to feed your dog as against 100% ordinary food. Makes an expensive brand seem cheap or atleast as cheap because it will last four times as long. Yes I do appreciate it may be the initial cost that makes it prohibitive. I personally don't have any problem using cheaper brands and I do, I also accept the lower performance level i.e absorbtion rate. I have only mentioned MERA DOG because I used to sell and use it. I also used another brand that was made in Albury and threw it out of the shop because it had offal in it's Premium wizz bang can !
