  1. A dog can be ruined by ignorance as well as by neglect or abuse.
  2. Thank you to the people who responded with more sympathy than me. We have had here a few one post odd bods in recent days. Caught me at a bad time? But there are still red flags in OP. They bought the dog "four little outfits", and "a car seat"? The food recipe says "freeze one muffin per night". Should that be "feed one muffin ..." Is once a day feeding right for a toy breed of not fully vaccinated age?
  3. What a pity you didn't do some research here before you made a mess of it. You seemed to have joined to complain.
  4. Even if apparently not double dapple, could be a cryptic Merle involved. Best stay clear of the dangerous colours.
  5. I don't understand why we can't make our own. We have chemicals, autoclaves and gamma sterilisation devices. Is it the plastic packaging that's not available, or has that knowledge been lost? I remember making Ringer's solution for our calves if they were dehydrated.
  6. If you are wanting to save money why are you wanting another dog?
  7. OP mentioned blue staffies but not colour dilution alopecia, cavs but not Chiari malformation. But I think we are now providing info for the viewers rather than the OP.
  8. It is the difference between two people with many years experience. One has one year's experience repeated many times and the other has been learning every moment of those many years.
  9. Don't forget detective skills to interrogate potential homes. I found asking what age the previous dogs were when they died, and what they died from, very revealing. "Stupid dog jumped off the back of the ute" was a memorable one.
  10. Have a look at the breeds with low registration numbers, the rare terrier and toy breeds, or other rare breeds. They could do with a helping hand. You should consider this a long term venture. You will need to do your apprenticeship with an established breeder, and not consider becoming a breeder straight away for your own amusement. You may be required to be a co-owner first until you prove you are genuine, and could help import new bloodlines (dogs or semen). Be prepared to promote your breed by competing in competitions and attending display days.
  11. Tell us how much you know about dachshunds (you didn't mention coat or size) and why you have chosen this breed.
  12. This has already been covered a bit further down. Title includes Trigger Warning and Gumtree warning
  13. He was taking his time with the dating app
  14. Can't imagine her getting to roll in, or sneakily eat, any herbivore or cat poo.
  15. Had a quick look at this website after searching for anaesthesia - 5 risks, didn't mention sighthounds. It is a .com so not peer reviewed?
  16. The story seems to have disappeared but there was also one on the ABC website about a cavoodle? Miss Mina? that was described as a social influencer that owned dozens of tutus. You can only hope it was taken down because people complained. Treating any animal like a toy, a plaything is also abuse. Shows a lack of respect. A living being is not a Disney cartoon character.
  17. US textbook The 5 Minute Veterinary Consult lists "sensitive breeds include collies, Australian shepherds, shelties and Old English sheepdogs." Later breeds include longhaired whippets. Makes sense, I always thought they'd been produced using shelties. MDR1 test, found a price of $119 AUD If searching ivermectin, add "dogs" to your search terms or you will get COVID research
  18. It may not have had anything to do with the injection, just happened around the same time. Did anyone mention haemorrhagic gastroenteritis? 5 -Minute Veterinary Consult: Breed Predilection "incidence is greater in small breed dogs. Breeds most represented include miniature Schnauzers, dachshunds, Yorkshire terriers and miniature poodles."
  19. I hope they don't rehome the unsocialized dogs who will endure more stress every remaining day of their lives just so someone can pat themselves on the back because they "saved" them.
  20. Not the dog's fault. See if you can catch the owner/s and get them spayed/neutered.
  21. I took my sighthounds to a greyhound vet because regular vets tended not to know much about them. In the greyhound waiting room were well kept, well adjusted dogs. In the pet waiting room were usually overweight, poorly socialised and poorly controlled dogs. At a Million Paws walk one year (I stopped going - too many long flexileads and being run into by strollers) the vet students doing free checkups said the show dogs are in good condition and the pets look like coffee tables. In the Baird greyhound enquiry, didn't the RSPCA say they didn't get many greyhound cruelty cases?
  22. The thing to ask is, am I keeping him alive for his benefit or for my benefit? Since having a dog in her teens with spinal arthritis put down, seeing how tension-free her face was after death, and realising I had left the decision too long, I have preferred to send them off early rather than late. You could try the poem The Last Battle. This poem was published in a commemorative dog show catalogue many years ago and I kept it because I thought I might need it one day.
  23. Great Dane Australian registrations steady around 500 last few years then dipped a little for 2023, but many breed numbers have dipped due to homes being taken by ...(fill in your answer here).
  24. Golden what? What breed do you mean? The purchase price is the smallest expense in owning a dog, so how much money can you afford for yearly expenses?
