Agree I have sold pups overseas. If it is a pet it is desexed before leaving and the new owners throughly checked, if it is for show I contact many breeders and have the people enquiring checked out. I do exactly the same if selling in Australia (pup not desexed as sold at 8 weeks, but on a contract). Leanne

Would A German Pinscher Be Too Much For Me?
Ozstar replied to Goliath's topic in General Dog Discussion
I had a female for a couple years, was showing it for a friend. She was very full on energy wise but also very smart, always on the go. I have had Staffords for a few years now and the GP is a lot more energenic than the Staffords. You also have to keep in mind that the are a terrier and have a very high prey drive. Personally (although they are a wonderful breed) I would not recommend one unless you had plenty of time for exercising and obedience training. Leanne -
My Mal many years ago would sleep outside in the rain, he had free access inside but preferred it out. Leanne

If the bitch was fully checked over by a vet then age would not be an issue. If the dog had viable sperm and passed all health checks then again age would not be a problem. It does depend on the breed in question though as smaller breeds are bred from early than later and vise versa for larger breeds. I have used an 8 month old dog before and I have bred a bitch 2 weeks after turning 1. I have also bred from a bitch who was 8 (not her first litter) after then vet gave the all clear. Leanne

Mine is the French Bulldog. I had them about 10 years ago and went through a lot of heartache with them. It has taken me a long time to heal but knew I could never really live without the breed and finally have my gorgeous Lilly. I even have my first Frenchie tattooed on my arm. Leanne

I have a 6 months old Frenchie that for the past 6 weeks has refused to eat anything except for chicken necks. I have tried adding chicken mince, yoghurt, egg, cheese etc. I have also tried lamb and beef but she will not eat it. I have done the 10 minute rule and she went 4 days without eating. Chicken necks is not the best diet but its better than nothing and I also give her nutrigel. Leanne

My babies are born in my bedroom next to my bed and stay there for the first 3-4 weeks then move into the family room. Once they are around the 5 week old mark they spend the day outside if the weather is nice. Leanne

2 sleep on the bed, the old girl sleeps on her bed in front of the fire. Young ones sleep in crates. Leanne

I have no probelms with people asking about prices as long as it is not just a 1 line email. When I respond to emails I always put in the price and what you get for that price regardless if it has been ask. $3500 for a Frenchie is way to much unles buying a quality show pup. It should be between $2000 - $2500 depending on the lines for a pet from parents that have been xrayed/health tested etc. 10 years ago Frenchies where selling for $1200 pet and $1500 show. Leanne

My dogs outside have coats on if it is going to be a cold day (anything under 18 degrees). During the night the have 2 coats on, a warm fleecy coat and an outer water proof coat. During the day I take the fleecy coat off unless it is really cold. Leanne

I have a Basset Hound that will be 11 next month, although that age is not old for a dog it is a good age for a Basset with a live span of around 10. Gemma is almost blind and very hard of hearing but otherwise is very healthy with no joint problems. :D Leanne

Hi Haylz I am more than happy for you to give it a go with my guys. I have added pics on the previous page. Leanne

Have a look in the commercial thread (off topic) as there is people that make coats and PJ's to your dogs measurements. I have had to have coats specialy made for my Basset as bought ones are to long for her short legs. Leanne

Worst Excuses For Re-homing Or Surrendering A Pet
Ozstar replied to PeiPei's topic in General Dog Discussion
I had someone ring me and ask me if I could take their dog (I bred the breed they had), because the kids refused to walk it and it howled all day. The kids where 7 and 4 and the dog was locked in a small garden shed because it would poop on the lawn. I ended up taking the dog, having her desexed and retrained her and she is now in a lovely family home Leanne -
It is all well and good to say that we are breeder bashing here but the fact that this breeder wanted his/her pup gone at 7 weeks leaves an ugly taste in my mouth. If he/she is willing to break that rule what other rules are they willing to break. Leanne

From what the OP has posted the breeder didn't seem to care that the pup was sick and when questioned on it the breeder became offensive. To me this does not sound like a breeder that I would want to buy a pup from and yes I would run a mile. As an ethical breeder the first thing you do with a sick pup is seek vet care, obviously this breeder didn't otherwise they would of said so. If it was my pup it would of been under vet care, the potenial owners told about it and offered a complete refund. I would never sell a sick pup nor would I sell a pup to anyone that was having doubts. Regardless of what breed it is and how rare the breed is I'm am sure that there would be some sort of testing needing to be done, xrays, dna, eye certs etc. No breed is that healthy. It is these sorts of breeders that are giving the rest of us a bad name and as far as I am concerned it should be name and shame then maybe things like this will stop. Leanne

I would love a new sig as well. Pics of my guys are in the link that Kahlua posted. Thanks Leanne

I do the same. I am sorry that your first experience with a breeder has been such a bad one. Unfortunately there is to many of these shonky breeders showing up (although they are still the minority of breeders) and it is giving genuine ethical breeders a bad name. I just can not stress enough to anyone looking for a pup to please do a lot of research not just on the breed of dog but on the breeders themselves. If you have any doubts about a breeder go on to the next one. Leanne

it may be heart breaking now but just think how much worse it could of been if you had taken the puppy and it died within a few weeks wish you and your family all the best in the future and am sure that the right pup will come along Leanne

My question to the viewers of this forum are: 1) Are potential owners allowed to ask breeders about the health of a puppy if it seems unwell? Of course you are and any decent breeder would of seeked vet help and not sell an unwell puppy till it has been cleared by the vet. 2) Are potential owners allowed to ask breeders about genetic testing of the parents? - The breeder implied genetic testing is not conducted much/if at all in Australia Some breeds in Australia don't have as much testing done in as in other countries, but if it is a simple DNA test it should be done and if the breed is known to have hip/elbow/eye problems then this should also be done. If a breeder tells you it is not need for their dogs run away. 3) Are breeders allowed to pull back from a sale based on such valid questions? - Please correct me if I'm wrong but I didn't see anything wrong with asking these questions If the pup in question was sick and not deemed fit to sell then yes I would refund the deposit on the pup. Personally I would not be buying this pup or from this breeder.Asking questions is not a valid reason. 4) Is there such a thing as a puppy's eyes tearing/leaking because he has "a big head"? - This was the breeders reason before he changed his mind and said "it was dust" Never heard this one before 5) Does anyone know how the breeders are ranked on dogzonline? -He was a "blue ribbon" breeder so I presumed he was a reputable breeder but now I am unsure Blue ribbon members pay annually, this does not make them a good ethical breeder. Personally I would be running a mile from this breeder. You could try to get your deposit back but I would not be holding my breath. Don't just by froma breeder that has pups availble now. Research the breeders and find a breeder that you trust, is doing all the right health tests and is willing to disscuss everything with you. This may mean you need to look outside of Vic. Leanne

How dare you say I am not an ethical breeder. Until the day you walk in breeders shoes you should SHUT your mouth. You don't breed therefore you have no say in how we breeders should do things. You really have some nerve here is just one letter of my many satisfied buyers who did not get their dogs papers till a few weeks after they had bought their pup Firstly thank you so much for allowing my family to love the wonderful little dog, Fudge.” He is everything we had hoped for only better and your professionalism as a breeder is impeccable. We have told everyone we see how unbelievably clean and loved both your kennels and your dogs are and how great your puppy package was and appreciated. We appreciate your knowledge and guidance when we picked him up. Enough of the gush but I had to let you know that we are very impressed. “Fudge” has settled in very well and has now had a change of batteries for the “Eveready Energizer bunny variety!” Lol. Yes I know you told us that. Right now he is having his nightly “skitz” and he is so funny. Yesterday his ears changed and got the “Stafford” crease in them. He has only had about 4 “accidents” and is toilet training well. He loves his toys especially his giant yellow duck that he is chewing right now. We are teaching him not to chew us so hard with his bloody sharp baby teeth!!! Ouch! He now only licks thank god but it is still a bit of a worry during his ‘skitz’ times. It is amazing just watching him discover new things. We just sit and watch and are continually captivated by his innocence. He is so strong already and it is so amazing how quickly he is changing everyday. He now plays for about an hour and a half straight and each time a little faster and adventurous. “Fudge” has no fear and loves to leap, much to our worry. So this means keeping a constant watch on him. So far we have nearly worn out Louise’s camera and we have hundreds of photos of nearly every thing that has made us go “awwww.” I have sent some photo’s for you to keep track on how he is going. Sadly he sleeps in our bed but we are used to that…. I’ll personally be glad when he stops waking up at 2.00am for a “play” but he is so cute so we tolerate it gladly. The first night he was a bit unsettled so he slept on and off on my chest on the lounge till 4.00am. I think he liked the sound of my heartbeat or something like that. He is so faithful and never lets us out of his sight. I love that and that was what I was hoping for. That was what I missed when lost “Bozley”. Please let me know what I have to do for this puppy show starting with the date and place so I can see what I can do to have our little dynamo ready to show what the “Ozstar” kennel is all about…. J Enough of the dribble because we love him so much I will go on all night otherwise. We just simply want to say, from all of us here, a very, very sincere……………………THANK YOU Leanne
