“is It Time To Introduce A Spitz Group In Australia?”.
Ozstar replied to Bjelkier's topic in General Dog Discussion
I didn't vote but think it would be good for Spitz to have their own ring, it is so hard to beat a cute fluffy baby spitz with a short hairded baby Leanne -

Breeds - Hd And Ed Scoring Requirements
Ozstar replied to Stolzseinrotts's topic in Breeders Community
There is no required testing for French Bulldogs. I have spine and hips xrayed and also DNA test for HC. About 25% of breeders xray their breeding stock and about 5% DNA test for HC. Other countries are bigger on testing than we are here for my breed. Leanne -
I am currently on the hunt for a male French Bulldog pup and prices vary from $2500 - $3500 show or pet and regardless of health testing. Certain colours are also more expensive. As I am after certain blood lines I am expecting to pay $3500. My pups are $3000 regardless of colour from DNA tested clear and xrayed parents. Stud fees can range from $600 to $3000 depending on the quality of the dog. Leanne

My first dog as an adult was a 1 year old Alaskan Malamute. He was a fantastic dog and my introduction into showing and obedience, he was the 2nd Mal to complete grade 5 obedience in SA, the 3rd mal to win a Best in Show in SA. This was many many years ago when mal's where not as popular as they are today. Leanne
-
Personly I would be returning the pup and getting the $2500 refund and I would be doing it now before spending any more money on it. I would then be taking that money and using half of it to purchase a quality pup (not blue) from an ethical breeder. The vet should of pick it up at 6 weeks, sometimes a very mild murmur can be missed but not a grade 3. With that grade the pup will most likely not have a quality of life or a long one. A 6 year old boy needs a pup that is going to be able to run and play with it, this pup will not be able to do that. Yes the pup will most likely be PTS and that maybe hard for you to think about at this stage but think of the heart ache that you and your family will go through most likely sooner than later when the pup dies, not to mention the out of pocket expences. It is also not fair to the pup to keep it alive as it will nevr have the quality of life that it deserves. Leanne

Thank you all for the birthday wishing. Gemma was very spoilt today with a huge satan ball (she loves them) covered in sardines. I did not think she would make this birthday as she is full of cancer and we take each day as a blessing. Pat I am so sorry to hear about Bear, run free gorgeous boy Leanne

My gorgeous Basset Hound Gemma turns 12 today. The fact that she is still with us is amazing. Gemma is deaf, blind and only has a few teeth left but still loves life :D Leanne

From the sounds of it (from what others have mentioned) you have put a deposit down on a breeding adult, even though you where told it was a carrier. You then went home and looked up what this meant (as you had no idea to start with) and now want your money back. Carriers can be bred from as long as you breed them to a clear, have all the pups DNA tested and let people know if they are buying a clear pup or a carrier (especially if selling to a show/breed home). If it is only for a pet, then being a carrier does not matter. As a breeder I would give back some of your deposit, I would keep some for readvertising as I am sure the breeder has turned people away since you have put your deposit down. Maybe next time you should really research a breed before rushing in Leanne

Its fine to say "don't enter under that judge' but in SA we don't have choices of shows each weekend as other states do. you could go months without doing a show I use to never enter under local judges, but now it is interstate and overseas. I think the internet has been the worst thing to happen to the dog world. I have won heaps in 20 years from BIS to just classes and am more than happy to be beaten by a good dog but refuse to be beaten by poor quality with a face handler anymore. To be honest I have found the smaller country shows better to show under than huge international shows. Leanne

You will often see a dog that is winning regularly be it because it is a good example of the breed or not siring a number of litters. I often hear from breeders saying that they are going to use so and so cause it is so good and has won so much. I have seen grand champions that have the wrong movement and yet they continue to be put up. I am not saying that all judges are face judging but it is starting to get beyond a joke. I am more than happy to see a dog win consistantly if it is good, but when it is a bad example of the breed it is giving false hopes to the owner/breeder/handler. It is also interesting to see some of the dogs that are winning consistantly at all breeds can not win at a specialty. In the past 20 years I have seen a lot of things change in the show world but you have to wonder why there is less and less people showing now than then. Leanne
-
I answered yes to all 3. I have stopped showing since Sep last year due to this. One of our major shows here last year with international judges was so bad at this it was disgusting. If you did not have on a certain coloured scarf or an added bling to the end of your lead you did not win. I am also sick of watching dogs that can barely walk or have shocking mouths/fronts (especially in my breed) win over good sound dogs and not just my own. Most shows are a 3 hour round trip for me and I can not be bothered wasting my time or money anymore. Leanne

I have been using weatherbeeta Landa range for my outside dogs and have found them to be perfect (normally hard to find a coat for a Basset Hound) and they last for years. Price is normally around $45, they clean easily just with a wipe down and I only wash them before putting back in the cupboard over summer. Leanne

Sounds like a very interesting read. Leanne

I am the same with my own dogs and often regret later on for pet homing what I thought was a mediocre pup/young dog. As far as other breeders kennels go, I judge each dog on its on merits before looking at a pedigree, if I like the dog I will then look at what dogs are in its lines to see if there is consistancing or if that dog was just a fluke I always tell people not to ask me what I think of their dog/s if they don't want to hear the truth. If it is only a pup I will say what good points I can see at that age but anything can happen as the pup develops. Leanne

My pups are sold with thhe following puppy pack from Eagle Pack blanket toys treats collar (on the pup) info folder with a few pics of pup and siblings, pics of parents plus parents health tests, obedience schools and vets in the owners area, info on the breed, general care, feed guide etc Cd containing pics of pup since birth 6 weeks pet insurance worming and flea treatment to cover the next 3 months most new owners are excited about getting their pups and have already bought things like leads, toys, bedding etc so I don't go overboard on these items Leanne

Feeding Pups Between Flight And Long Car Ride
Ozstar replied to mini girl's topic in Breeders Community
I would give them there evening meal a bit later the night before. Offer them water before putting on the plane and again once arriving in Adelaide. I would wait till the new owners got home before feeding, it does make it a long day without food and the pups may look a bit hollow but they will be fine. Leanne -
I have more enquiries for girls of a certain colour. As I am planning on keeping a couple girls from my next litter and Frenchies don't always have big litters most of the above are happy to take a male of any colour. I always tell people that enquire about a particular sex in a certain colour that it lowers their chances of getting a pup and they could be waiting years. Leanne
-
I post my puppy packs 2 weeks before they get the pup. I send info folder, toys and blanket and a couple of smaller sample dry food bags, all by registered post. I used to do this years ago but had a couple that also left the info behind. Then you have the hassle of them trying to get it back from the cargo companies or having to do stat decs on the paper work thats been lost. Leanne

No point going now with group 2 dogs, ru in group is not worth it Leanne

I am sure someone will have some younger cuter pics but this is Malley at 4 months old. Leanne

All babies are gorgeous and this thread is making me so clucky. I must admit it is hard to go past a blue merle Aussie baby. Basset babies are gorgeous in every way. Who could resist a Frenchy baby And Stafford babies are so cuddly and fun to play with

Securing A Dog In The Back Of A Wagon (advice)
Ozstar replied to auir's topic in General Dog Discussion
I have a divider in my wagon (think this is law now) and my guys are free in the back. If I have a dog I do not trust to stay while opening the back up I use a crate. Leanne
