  1. with all due respect, this is not a vaccination. if so, you are the only place in the world to have it. I think if you check, you'll find that it is simply a poison to treat the heartworm larvae. and there is no vaccination for worms, despite how some vets may choose to label them. Here's a link to an American article, which can be relatively extrapolated to our situation here in Australia. http://terriermandotcom.blogspot.com.au/2008/05/billion-dollar-heartworm-scam.html [/quote Yes that is what I thought. It is sustained release dose of the prevention drug moxidectin, not a vaccination.
  2. I am guessing the new codes might have come about because of Carol Freeman rather than animal rights.
  3. The right tools are good quality double sided thinning scissors and agood quality long pinned slicker. Look for a flexible slicker. Ask your breeder to show you how to use the thinners. No cocker owner should be without them.
  4. Invest in some good quality thinning scissors, and use them on the heavier areas but from the underneath of the coat. Use a long pinned slicker after each 2-3 cuts with the thinners. and has been said, clip out the parts that cannot be seen, especially underarms and inner legs.
  5. If you dog is inside at night he wont need a coat. If you provide a comfortable bed in a draught free area, he will be fine. Don't use a coat when you cant be there to keep an eye on him. He may get snagged on something, or may get too hot.
  6. She had the cremation donated to her free of charge, I forget which company.
  7. As if you would even ask that....like its somehow the poodle owners fault. If a fence does not contain a dog properly then the home owner is at fault. And the owner possibly did not have x-ray vision. How many times have you walked along a footpath and had the crap scared out of you when a dog behind the fence suddenly goes off its nut at you?
  8. Breeders need to be sure that new owners won't skimp on the cost of caring for a pup, and your questions have made her concerned. As Sandra said, ring her if you have not done that already.
  9. Yes, she was desexed at around 8 months old. She still had her puppy fur back then Hormones play a big part in coat maintenance, so you will have little hope of regaining its former glory if she is desexed as well as being clipped mulitple times. Some coats become worse than others, but the texture can change and go from silky, soft and flat, to thick, wooly and wavy.
  10. Hey well done Reverend Jo Not many people on this forum could lay claim to something like that!
  11. Some of those items would cause further damage coming up again, however I should not think putty would be do that. It is only made of linseed oil and calcium carbonate. I had my dogs to the vet last week after they got into a bag of blood and bone fertilizer and they were made to purge. When you read the bag contents its not something you would like to leave in their systems. Putty I would not be concerned about unless it has turpentine in it, but certainly ask the vet.
  12. A hip replacement is a prosthesis or artificial joint. I can't believe you are not covered though. Is this the same for all insurance companies?
  13. That looks so dreadfully painfully, poor boy, and poor you. It looks to be almost infected from the pics, I guess he would be on antibiotics already. I am thinking it may help to wrap his scrotum with some sort of soothing dressing like jelonet which is gauze impregnated with parafin, as it appears to be very dry also. Certainly if you can get some lignocaine gel or emla cream over the counter that may help also.
  14. Sighting the documents is fine. There is no way I would issue puppy buyers with copies of health tests or pedigrees. You will get the original pedigree papers for your pup.
  15. I made my own with a long sports sock filled with foam beans from an old bean bag. I sewed the other end closed when filled, and stitched some velcro on each end to hold it around the dogs neck. It doubled as a bring your own pillow. I wonder if one of those curved neck rests could be used in a similar way?
  16. I think the point you missed is that they are in fact titled, meaning enough judges deemed them worthy and did not non award. Surely a judge who could not approach a dog becuase of fears related to temperament, would non award.
  17. Umm, I cant see the paddocks as there are lots of horses in the way Very beautiful horses though :)
  18. Please take the dog to a vet to be examined and diagnosed.
  19. Your family believe he died because he was pedigreed? What did he die of?
  20. Why do anything at all - unless it is obviously causing pain or discomfort, unless (in some situations) it is growing, discoloured, bleeding or changing rapidly, or unless it is proven to be cancerous? Leave it alone otherwise. Thank god I have a sensible vet who sticks a needle in lumps and determines what they are and more often than not, tells me the dog will die of old age before the lump kills him!!!
