  1. Hi Norskra

that work doesn't appear to be working - can you please advise where to go to find more info?

Sorry, Sugee I should have thought. The link does work but it is in Off Topic and you need 150 posts to have access to it. You can pm Cockerlover who makes them.

Here are the details of the leads:

Colors available are Black , white , Purple , Pink , Blue , Green

Length is approx 2 metres ( can make to any length )

Slip leads with breed $20 . Plain without breed $9.50

clip leads with breed $22 . Plain without breed $12.50

The three is the photos are slip leads and I have ordered three clip leads as well in the lenght I wanted. It is so hard to find anything with Elkies on it in Australia.

  2. Newborn Dog Attack

A SEVEN-DAY-OLD infant died today after a dog attack in Florida.

Emergency crews responded to a call just after noon local time about an incident involving baby Thomas James Carter, Jr and a brindle-type pit bull in New Port Richey, north of Tampa, Florida.

Baby Thomas had more than 50 puncture wounds, deputies in Pasco County said.

He was taken to hospital but later pronounced dead.

The baby and his mother were sleeping in the same room as the dog. A neighbour knocked on the door around noon local time, and detectives said that was when the mother realised the child had been mauled.

Police are testing the mother, 16-year-old Nicole Koezeno, to see if she was under the influence of any kind of drugs.

Detectives said after the dog attacked the infant, then escaped the home and attacked another dog down the street.

Investigators said it had no history of being vicious anywhere else.

  3. Here is the recipe for the beef liver remedy. It is really good if pups are fading.

BEEF LIVER REMEDY FOR FADING PUPPIES

It's so simple.....Large piece of Beef Liver, little bit of water, boil

slowly, about 5 minutes until the blood comes out. Let cool, drain the

liquid and put just 4 drops (no matter the breed) into a dropper and give to puppy.

At first you give it every 2 hours for 12 hours, then every 4 hours. The article says you can do this for however long you have to, until you feel the puppy is thriving.

  4. I have twp that were impossible to get and keep weight on. They could eat the amount of raw food that was needed to get the weight where it should be. I tried all of the super premium power foods and none of tghem worked for these two, including Artemis Power. The only food that has worked is Uncle Albers or Great Barko. I have one on each of these as one of the two can not tolerate beef. I don't feed nearly as much as the feeding guide recommends.

  5. I should have worded that first question a little better now I realise, I think I came across the wrong way

I understand that it happens in most breeds, I have just found that in the slightly less common breeds it can be a bit harder.

    Thanks Norskgra.

I wouldn't say it was any harder to purchase an Elkie show potential puppy than other breeds. You might have to wait a little while but you will get one.

  6. Greetings Elki people

A quick, somewhat generalised question I know but.....

There are a few breeds out there that are very hard to get a show quality pup from without having to jump threw hoops of fire...

Does the Elkie tend to be like this too?

Some breeders will want you to jump through hoops and put you through the third degree and others will sell their pups to anyone who wants one, just like most breeds

And how much would I be looking at roughly for a show potential puppy?

Elkies normally cost anywhere from $800 up depending on the breeder

    Thanks

  7. I bought a VZ Commodore for the dogs. It was great until I had to tow a furniture trailer over to Adelaide and it was gutless. I have now boguht them a Pajero and it is definately better. The dogs really love it. It has heaps of room. It is a seven seater but we have taken one of the seats out of the back.

  8. Thanks evryone.

I don't know what the recommended spacing is.

I got my puppy from AWL and at 10 weeks she'd had two of her vaccinations and I just needed to organise the third, about a month later. I don't know how old she was when they got her. I know they had her at 8 weeks because that's how old she was when they desexed her. Yes I hear some of you faint with horror, but she seems ok to me.

Norskqra, if you've been breeding for 30 years, and you're asking for vet recommendations, may I ask what happened to your usual vet? If they're interstate - they may still be able to recommend someone here.

The reason I am asking for recommendations is because we only moved from Sydney late last year. They do not know many vets here. They have recommended a reproduction specialist if we need one.

  9. I know that this has been discussed numerous times but this is the first time I have heard of this. Faith is six weeks old and will be due to have her first vaccination soon. I called a vet this morning to find out what regime they follow. They have recently changed to vaccinate at 6, 8 and 10 weeks. this seems very close between the needles to me. Has anyone heard of vaccinating this close together before. I want to vaccinate at approximately 8 and 12 weeks.

  10. If you're at Forestville, visit Goodwood oval (without your puppy) on Fairfax street off East Tce? around 5:30 onwards - maybe later if it's hot, and ask the local dog owners where they go.

I use Colonel Light Gardens vets because they're close to me - I usually get Zoe and she's good. They have about 5 different vets in there so if one isn't sure they can ask another. Some of them are better at explaining and doing thorough exams than others. It will be up to you to ask questions - write a list before you go so you don't forget if you get frazzled.

I use for the annual vaccinations Glenside Veterinary Practice on Greenhill road - near Lestrange St. I know the head vet Pin Needham and he's president of the South Australian Obedience Dog Club - so he runs an excellent puppy pre-school at his pratice with class sizes limited, and is great at explaining everything - especially if you ask the right questions and if you are a regular there, you can use their kennels for boarding. I only use for emergency boarding or if Frosty needs boarding with vet treatment. They also have a hydrotherapy pool and treadmill.

The spread of vaccinations that your vet suggested doesn't seem wrong to me. But if you want a second opinion - I'd recommend Pin or Dr Stirling. Puppy school would be wed or thurs night depending on how many puppys are available. You can do puppy school before all the vaccinations are done.

I bred my first litter of pups approximately 30 years ago and I am very fussy when it comes to vets. What most of the local dog owners would be happy with, I probably wouldn't.

This is the first time in all these years that I have ever heard of this vaccination regime. They are not my vets, they were just one that had been recommended by someone.

  11. Each has their own ideas but I have never heard of vaccs only 2 weeks apart, its always 4 weeks.

It is your dog so it is your choice.

Mine are done with 1 vaccine after week 8 & another 4 weeks later, which must be over week 12.

eg wk 9 then wk 13 or wk 10 then wk 14.

Some variations on the opinion of the 6 week vaccine being of any use at all.

Go to a vet where they will do as you request, you probably already know how you want to vaccinate.

Noahs Crossing at Lewiston is my recommendation if you don't mind a drive.

I had never heard of it before either. I want to do the one at approximately 8 weeks and another at 12 weeks or so.

  12. Faith is 6 weeks old and will be due for her first vaccination soon. I am after some recommendations for a good vet in Adealide. I rang up one that is supposed to be good. They give their vaccinations at 6, 8 and 10 weeks which seems a bit too close together to me.
