  1. Sorry, I wasn't really thinking when I posted. I have tried just giving her offal and veg and she wouldn't touch it. I will try her on an egg and/or yoghurt for breakfast or brunch. How often can you give them eggs? I normally only give them an egg once a week. I am hoping it is just 'morning sickness' but in the mean time I hate her not eating.
  2. Some of my dogs are on a raw food diet an up until now they have loved it. My oldest girl was mated approximately 3 1/2 weeks ago and has now decided she will not eat any chicken mince, turkey mince or even Scotty's Roll. The problem with this is that I mix in offal and vegetables to these meals. She still loves her bone meals which she has 4 or 5 times a week.and gutes them down. She will eat her fish meal as long as I don't add anything to it. Because she will not eat the mince, offal and vegetables, I now don't know what to give her instead. Any suggestions would be appreciated.
  3. Not really. The only way to minimise any chance of him having testicular cancer or prostrate troubles is for him to be desexed.
  4. I agree Noisymina. 3% is far too much for my dogs as well. I personally don't feed nearly that amount. I weigh all their food as I now know what amount suits each individual dogs. I was simply saying what they normally say as a guide.
  5. The starting point is to try them on 3% of their boby weight or the weight they should be. It is trial and error but if you start feeding them at 3%, you can then adjust it up or down until you feel it is right for each dog.
  6. Rabbit perhaps, it's quite lean. Does she have any red meat, for iron and zinc and other nutrient goodies? At the moment she only has lamb flaps, chicken necks, frames (without any fat), chicken and turkey mince and turkey necks and fish. They are all given additives to their meals to ensure they get all the nutrients they need. I really need something to replace the chicken frames so that she can eat the bones as well or do you think that they are eating enough bones? They all get 1 or 2 chicken necks for breakfast. At the moment she has 2 meals of chicken frames, 2 of turkey necks, 1 x lamb flaps, 1 x chicken or turkey mince (whole bird minced) with liver and vegetables and 1 of fish with liver or trip and vegetables per week. I would like to give them something in the lines of red meat as well, that is why I am asking for suggestions. I know that none of mine like roo.
  7. No worries Hazz. All mine loved the turkey necks and turkey mince and Kari didn't get the runs. I might buy a roll of the duck mince and give her a little to see how she goes. Does anyone have any suggestions on what else I could try her on?
  8. Thanks Hesapandabear. All mine ate turkey necks last night and my youngest girl had good firm bowel motions. I think she had 3 of the necks. It is really strange that she can eat chicken mince but not the fat on wings, frames or necks. I like them to be able to completely eat bones regularly but I am getting tired of having to strip all the fat from her chicken. She can eat fatty lamb flaps without a problem. I also want the ones that I am feed ing a raw diet to have more variety.
  9. Hi TT, Yes I have tried them on roo and none of the dogs would eat it. Unfortunately, none of the pet warehouses near me sell moose. Hazz - The people who make/package the turkey and duck mince is: Myella Premium Pet Foods Pty Ltd 2 - 4 Nelson Road, Yennora NSW 2161 Ph: (02) 9721 1106 They all had turkey necks for dinner last night and loved them. No one had the runns! It is really hard trying to find meaty bones that my girl can tolerate and also eat all the bone as well.
  10. I will get the details off the turkey mince roll tomorrow and let you know. The same people do the duck mince. They may distribute it to somewhere near you.
  11. I might give her a little and see how she goes. It is hard to find things that she can eat and give her some variety. This pet warehouse has only just started stocking turkey and duck mince and turkey necks. Our closest one is very limited in what they stock. That is why my dogs have only been having chicken frames, necks, wings and lamb flaps. It is a real pain with this girl as I have to take all the fat off her necks and frames. Trying to find bones that she can totally eat with meat she can tolerate has been hard. I would just love to be able to feed all my dogs the same thing without having to be careful with her.
  12. That's what I am afraid of. She gets really upset when she gets the runs. I would love to be able to feed them all the same with as much variety as possible. She eats lamb flaps with out any problem and absolutely loves them. It is obviously something to do with chicken/poultry fat.
  13. I am trying to give my dogs more variety in their raw diet. A local pet warehouse now stocks duck mince but I am a bit dubious in feeding it to one of my girls. She gets the runs if I feed her chicken wings, chicken necks with any fat on them or chicken frames if I do not remove the fat from them as well. I have fed her human quality turkey mince without any problems and they will be having pet quality turkey mince tomorrow. They are all having turkey necks tonight for dinner for the first time so I will have to wait and see with them although they do not have much fat at all. Knowing that duck is normally fatty, do you think I would be pushing my luck feeding this girl duck mince? None of my other dogs have a problem with anything I feed them.
  14. That is okay. It should help you.
  15. Congratulations on your new puppies. There was a similar thread 2 days ago that has some suggestions on it. http://www.dolforums.com.au/index.php?showtopic=62888
  16. I really hope it is nothing serious and that he is back to his normal self soon.
  17. The breeder saw my dogs on Sunday at our first Specialty Show. He actaully said how good they looked. My girl that he bred actually won Best Intermediate and beat some of his dogs/bitches. He remarked on how good her condition was and also her coat. He also said that she will do a lot more winning now.
  18. The research I have conducted shows that RC, Eukanuba and Science Diet are classified as premium dog foods and Eagle Pack and Nutro are classified as Super Premium. It is not necessarily the cost of the food but also the contents.
  19. I feed some of mine Nutro Natural Choice and the others are fed a raw diet.
  20. Zorro, I won't even dignify your childish comments by a reply. Back to the OP - I have always found satin balls and lamb flaps are great for putting weight on dogs. Also feeding a good quality dry food can help. Some dogs do better on certain foods than others. You need to find the food that suits your dog the best and stick to it. It may be a premium one or it could be a supermarket one. It could also be raw food. It is all a matter of trial and error. I have tried just about every brand of dry food until I found one that suited most of my dogs. For my others, they do better on raw foods.
  21. I use them. They are definately the cheapest I have found.
  22. I agree Ruffles. Everyone has their own preference for what they feed their dogs. That doesn't mean you run down other dry foods or people who feed their dogs certain dry food. There are lots of dry that I don't like but I will normally only comment on what dry I would/do use and not on the others. Zorro_007, you have only been a member of DOL for a week and you have managed to run down IAMS at least 5 times already. You may not like the compnay or their food but others do. Leave it at that.
  23. I intend to stick to it, Dougie. I know that the 2 we have on it have never looked better or been healthier, so much so that my daughter and I have decided to put our youngest one on it as well. She is looking thin and her coat is not as good as it should be. I have nothing against people feeding dry as some dogs do well on it. At this stage we are keeping our others on dry as it seems to suit them. Different foods suit different dogs.
  24. Everyone has their own opinion on what you should be feeding dogs. I was originally advised by a canine nutritionist to try BARF for my oldest boy. I didn't try it when she advised me to. It was only when this boy and my oldest girl refused to eat any dry food that I had to do something. They went for more than 2 weeks without eating anything and they were looking terrible. I then decided to give BARF a try through some more advice I received on DOL. The 2 I am feeding BARF have never looked better. They are healthier than they have ever been. The problems I was having with my boy stopped as well. I know that it is working for my dogs and I will stick to it. Eventually I will switch my other dogs to BARF as well. My oldset girl is due to come into season this Friday and I will be mating her. Any resulting pups will be fed BARF but I will also give them some dry food as well. I will be recommending to theor new owners that they continue with BARF but I will leave the final decision up to them. I intend to feed the pup I keep on BARF with dry being fed in emergencies or when travelling. I know that it is working for my two and I will keep them on it.
