Thanks TT. I should have known what you would suggest. :p Just one thing, Elkhounds never attacked the moose, they just located them and barked to alert the hunter of the whereabouts of the prey. I will see if I can find some venison somewhere for her though. -

I will try to order some wrapped ones for next time. She won't be sharing it with any of the others. That is the only time we have problems with them all is when there are bones involved. Luckily our other Elkhounds can eat anything. They are all regular. -

Thanks PF. The wild ones are half the price of the farmed ones. I didn't ask if they were still wrapped or not but I will find out when I go there. -

Thank you. I just rang a butcher near me and they have both wild and farmed rabbits, so I will get her a couple of wild ones to try. -

For some reason kangaroo just goes straight through her. Turkey is the same as chicken with her and we have to remove every bit of fat before we give it to her. I will try to find some rabbit and see if that is any better. -

I will try to find some rabbit. The price doesn't worry me. We are pretty sure she is in whelp so anything that will make her happy and keep her eating is worth any amount of money. -
One of my girls can not eat any chicken fat. We can't give her chicken wings or chicken mince and when we give her chicken frames or necks, we have to take all of the fat off them otherwise it goes straight through her. She can't eat kangaroo either for the same reason. She is fed a mainly dry diet but I do like to give her meat, vegs, fish, yoghurt etc with her dry. Does any one have any suggestions on lean meats I could feed her apart from beef.

That sounds excellent, do they fall off dead and stay dead? I mixed up some of the bottled lemon juice and water 50/50 in a spray bottle when I got home from work. Some fleas dropped off Kari and were dead. ETA - Kari just stood there while we sprayed her and didn't seem to mind. I also sprayed her bedding and the surrounding area.

Thanks. I did do a search but I read somewhere that you have to be careful using some essential oils on pregnant dogs.
-
Thanks Wolfgirl but all of our dogs get a teaspoon of ACV with their dinner. Maybe I should increase the amount.

I have done a search but I couldn't find what I wanted. We are pretty sure that one of my girls is in whelp. We currently have an outbreak of fleas. I can treat the others with out any problem but I would prefer not to use any chemicals on kari. Is there anything natural I could use on her to get rid of fleas?
-
Thank you G-B and Gretel. I am also hesitatant in using any chemicals on Kari. I think you are right Gretel. kari has just got her coat back after a major coat dump and I really don't think a flea comb would get through her coat but I will give it a try.
-
We seem to have an outbreak of fleas at the moment. We think that one of my girls may be in whelp. Can you give Capstar to bitches in whelp? Also they are all due for their Advantrix. I don't have a box at the moment so I can't check whether I can treat her with this or not.

I know you can use it more diluted and leave it on longer but without the container I can't remember the ratios.
-
I am at work so I don't have the container with me. It does say on the container how to use it but by memory I add it in the ration of 1:4 of boiling water. I also add the same amount of whitening shampoo as the crystals. I let it cool until it is at cool enough tenperature for the dog. I leave it on for approximately 5 minutes. Then wash it off very well. ETA - I then wash in the whitening shampoo to make sure I have got all of the crystals out.
-
You are welcome. I have it saved on my mobile.

Cleaning And Disnfecting A Metal Crate
Norskgra replied to Norskgra's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
That is what I though Warley but I wanted to make sure. I put the bleach on straight. I am probably just being over cautious but the next dog to go in it will be going for a progesterone test. -
The crate in my car was used to put an injured ring tailed possum in it. It has been washed with a commercial cleaner and very hot water. I have also put straight bleach on it. Would this be enough to kill any nasties that the possum might have had?
