Can Dogs Be Intolerant To Eggs?
Norskgra replied to Norskgra's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Good, we will agree to disagree. Anyway, lets get back on topic. I wasn't asking whether it was okay to feed eggs. I asked whether a dog could be intolerant to eggs. -

Elkie, you can find plenty on the net for both sides. Even the post you copied from the net said it takes a large amount of raw egg eaten over a long period of time. You are free to believe what you like and I will believe what all of my research on nutrition has shown. -

Raw egg whites contain avidin, an enzyme that destroys biotin within the body. Egg yolks are very high in biotin so feeding a whole egg counteracts the biotin problem and is safe to feed to dogs. They are a well balanced food for both protein and calcium. -

I meant shouldn't have a problem. It is only Angel that has a problem out of my dogs. It might just be the egg shell which I am testing tonight. -

If you feed the whole egg (whites, yolk and shell), it is correctly balanced and you don't have a problem. -

I haven't tried them cooked mainly because I am trying to feed her a totally raw diet. I might have to try on the weekend when I am home to clean up after her just in case. -

Angel who is 12 1/2 months old is fed a raw diet and I mix the whole egg, including shell into her mix. None of my others have any problems at all with eggs, just Angel. When my daughter was younger, she used to be allergic to eggs but she seems to have grown out of it. -
I give all of my dogs a couple of whole eggs a week They are all fine with them apart from Angel. You can bet the next day she will have extremely loose bowel motions. It doesn't matter what else she has for dinner, if she has an egg, she will be very loose. Can dogs be allergic to eggs?

Is There A Difference In Kelp?
Norskgra replied to Norskgra's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Thanks Ellz. One brand says 1 teaspon and the one I now have says 1/2 teaspoon. They get Brewers Yeast as well. None of the dogs are showing any of the symptoms of Thyroid issues. I was actually thinking of having my girls tested anyway. -

I had read that previously. That is why I am now confused as to what the correct dosage should be. The 2 different brands I have had say 2 different amounts. -
I give my dogs kelp each day and have usually used the same brand. The dog dose was 1 teas per 500g food. I have bought a bulk kelp and the dog dose on the pack is 1/2 tea. I did a search on google and the recommened dosage differs greatly. Now I don't know how much to give them. They weigh between 18 and 25kg.

Thanks Nynka. I thought they looked like a good idea and bought a green one. Unfortunately, we keep finding it upside down in the middle of the room.

Thanks everyone. My dogs had a bath on the weekend but Prada and Gandor are going to their first show training class tomorrow night and I want them to smell clean when they get their cuddles. -

Yes, they have double coats. They also do not get a doggy odour and have a self cleaning coat. There are occasionally special occasions when I like them to smell pretty but don't have time for a wash. -

I am curious as to what people use for a quick clean up of you dogs coat when you don't have time for a proper bath?

I use Aloveen on my pups when they are young and loved the smell but it makes their coat too soft when they get their adult coat. I have that trouble with Prada at the moment. She is 11 weeks old and has most of her adult coat now. I don't know what to use on her as she is supposed to have a course outer coat.
