  1. Exceptionally good news. To have that happen would be so worrying about whether the stolen dog was being c ared for, or being neglected or abused. Wonderful that it ended well.
  2. Wishy washy about my breed but I t hought this quite reasonable. Except if you didn't want a high energy dog such as a Border Collie you could cross breed for something lower energy. Why not buy a lower energy dog to begin with? But I guess that wasn't the point.
  3. Oh yes, better to be dead than to be in a home where the owners work. What can these rescue people be thinking? If the home is good, somewhere, there is a dog which is ideal......as the maltese cross from the 'rspca
  4. But it would be reasonable for the trainer to contact the person interested in rescuing the dog before euthanazing it? Many dogs are so stressed in pounds/rescue they do not behave as usual. And the would be adoptee has, I am sure, some right to know, as the trainer has a duty of care to divulge. If not, they should consider the damage they do to their public image by this type of behavior SOME trainers are hopeless SOME of those doing rescue are psychologically unsuited to the emotional difficuties of dealing with unwanted dogs, many with problems. SOME rescue people are not suited to dealing with the public. They are enthusiastic but without people skills, they should not be dealing with the public Of course Big D would have to prove he could cope with the dog with a problem - if that indeed was the case. But he should have been told.
  5. It's terrible. Perhaps it would be possible to begin an internet petition to reopen the case, increase the fine, and try to get jail time. Nothing would happen, but perhaps it would deter other people. As it is now, I can slaughter the neighbours dog, psychologically shatter their child, and walk away. That isn't a good message
  6. And a photo of the dog and his number under the saucer Must confess wouldn't go within shouting distance of either steward of judge of the ring where I was exhibiting, because that is how nasty rumours start. And if my lack of assistance caused a judge to die of heat stroke, so be it Honestly
  7. Lovely dog, no idea what he is. Hope you will tell us. He seems to be checking out the surroundings.
  8. At the dog park, there is an entire class of dog - presumably purebred, but so far from the dogs shown in the ring, it is an Act of Faith to label them the same breed. Lanky Spaniels, twice normal size, narrow headed, lean and tall Labradors, funny looking retrievers, JRT which aren't. Bred by byb or puppy mills.
  9. There is no reason Dr Brown would know. Most of the vets who know about puppy mills are those who have puppy farm clients. Most of the others never heard of them. Some vets encourage them - some vets actually help sell the pups. It's great that Dr Brown is speaking out against puppy mills. Because he is a vet, he is more credible. A sales adage says "don't tell me, show me" - and this is the way to get the message about mills to the public. toydog they are always closing down and reopening a month or so later. The owners go broke and the chain takes over the shop and resells later to someone else who also goes broke
  10. It is obvious the regulations posters speak of will be applied to all breeders. ANKC breeders didn't go into a business, or to be randomly inspected. They wanted to breed a few dogs to show and to improve the breed, not to have to keep records and be answerable to the ANKC and a government department. Of course they will stop breeding. Anyone who thinks they wont are fooling themselves. And Perhaps it is a good thing. There is so much random cruelty today, if dogs are very difficult to buy, and cost thousands, the cruelty may stop.
  11. You seem to have posted something no one understands. Please come back and clarify.
  12. Dr Brown is super, and he did a wonderful job tonight No one could be any doubt about puppy factories after that. And many people have no idea what they are like. He has my support.
  13. Priceless thread - thanks. Lucky you puppy sounds very ominous!! Are you SURE that is wool on one of them???
  14. PP buys schnauzers from a very large p farm west of Brisbane, and another in Bendigo. If the one in PP is cheaper than breeders, he is probably not purebred, or has been in the shop for a long time Well done!! Hope she finds one. A friend breeds, b ut she will not have any for ages
  15. They tried "Australian Service Dog" but I'm not sure what happened to that registry? Was that with the goal of the labradoodle being a guide or other service dog? (Sorry. never heard of the registry so can't help)
  16. Just curious, how many generations of breeding true is required for a cross to be identified as a breed? Most animal registries, and geneticists accept 4th generation as pure. Having a dog breed accepted as pure by the ANKC is rather more complicated than that as listed on the ANKC website 7th generation would be accepted as pure by geneticists Aidan I thought the man who originated the cross for low allergy guide dog pups went public a few years ago saying the whole exercise was a disaster? General experience seems to be that "low allergy" is not a constant. Be interesting to see where labradoodles go in the nth generation, particularly coat type and allergic reactions. dobesrock, I think DB's argument with the ANKC was about his description on TV of a pure breed, and the matter escalated out of hand, nothing to do with MF or TT. Both TT and MF are purebred, as far as most people are concerned. One is ANKC recognized, one is not. the shape of the feet is different. The MF registry was/is very careful about what they accepted into the registry
  17. waffle Unfortunately, DOGS have a lot of health issues if bred by people who know little, and who breed with parents from bad or untested lines. On average, there are more registered and purebred breeders carefully breeding with tested and healthy parents than breeders of cross breds. People who breed x breds delude themselves that purebreds have problems, and they do, but the ones who have problems are usually the poorly bred ones and the ones which are available to cross bred breeders to use for breeding.
  18. The perpetrator of the attack on the dog was probably an intruder and would be burglar, intent on wrong doing. He was armed with a knife. The dog barked at him, as she would bark at any intruder, and was stabbed and killed.
  19. Yep, very good healing properties. Wont hurt.
  20. Lovely, and the baby is so interested too. Edited for spelling.
  21. Keeping rabbits in Q is prohibited. $10,000 fine per rabbit. Schools, universities etc. may keep rabbits under special permit considerations. I saw on the news that someone was attempting to begin a rabbit farm, with permits, but as far as I know, it never got off the ground.
  22. Terribly careless and inefficient service. Ensure Dogtainers know the depth of your dissatisfaction, and posting it here ensures that "the publc" are aware as well. Hope the company does the right thing by the pups, and takes care of them overnight.
