Hey, Thanks guys

Nope bonnie... My cards are formatted every time I'm done uploading them to the computer. Turned the camera on last night with the card that's fine and it worked fine... put in the other one and the camera freezes (can't view pics or take pics or anything). I think it's rooted but will look at that software and see if I can use it.

Hey there, A recent computer crash has wiped most of my programmes. Some I have found again and some I am having trouble with... namely.. Zoombrowser EX and the other CDs that come with the Canon cameras. I've lost my CD that came with the camra and on the canon website, I can only find updates for it... but you have to have zoombrowser already installed for it to work. Does anyone have a copy they can send me or let me know where I can get it (I don't tend to trust other sites that say they have it for download.. paranoid about viruses)?? Would be VERY much appreciated as i am somewhat lost without it....
-
Hey, Nope. Not yet.. admittedly, haven't done anything further to try to fix it as I have no idea what i should or shouldn't do. Just have the card put away atm....

Which is why it is critical to be careful when removing ticks... regardless of head or mouth bits or anything else... it IS about removal methods because it can mean life or death for the animal. If the tick is removed correctly.. leaving behind the 'head wouldn't actually happen... so it's a moot point. Head breaks off.. you haven't removed it properly and it's quite likely the animal has been given an extra shot of toxins... Ah ok.

I'd be looking into the possibility of finding a new vet who might actually look into WHY the dog had a really itchy bum rather than just being thankful your mum didn't have to bother with going in. That ISN'T some insignificant spot of itchiness there. I find that disgraceful on the vet's part and somewhat negligent on your mother's part... treating with paw paw ointment is wonderful.. but none of you have any idea whatsoever what it is you are actually treating!

Really?? Could you possibly back that statement up with a link to scientific evidence, please? Considering it is a well known fact that the paralysis tick will inject more venom into the skin of its victim if grabbed, pulled or otherwise disturbed which could then quite literally cause the animal to die after several days of distressing deterioration of it's neurological system and other vital organs.... I beg to differ that leaving 'bits' of a paralysis tick in an animal is quite a serious cause for concern. Now, if you are specifically speaking of the bush tick/cattle tick... fair enough (thought they can still make a small dog or cat quite ill if left insitu). With caution.. Permoxin should NOT be used on puppies under 12wks of age if you are buying it in concentrated form. People should really only be advised to use puppy specific products (already made up in the correct/harmless to pup dilution rate) when it comes to potentially dangerous chemicals.

Vaccinate,or Not To Vaccinate Yearly.
Cordelia replied to nicestman77's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
So you've nursed older children or adults who have never been vaccinated and contract measles?? You've watched those older children progressively lose their mental function over a period of weeks until they aer in a vegetative state, then die?? Can't see how not vaccinating helped any of the kids I've nursed who have been left with profound disabilities because they caught a disease that was vaccine preventable. While men who have never been vaccinated against mumps can end up sterile if they contract the disease as adults. Can't see how not vaccinating against mumps is in the best interests of the child. Considering that you have to have had chicken pox to develop shingles, your statement that it helps 'protect' adults from shingles is misleading. If you have a high exposure to chicken pox when you are run-down or immunosuppressed, your chances of shingles occuring is actually increased, not decreased. Thankfully, a WHO study published in March 2008 shows that they hope to eradicate measles from Australia and Europe by 2010 looks to be an acheivable goal with a 95% vaccination coverage. I feel for the 5% who put their children at risk of profound disability and/or death. -
Vaccinate,or Not To Vaccinate Yearly.

All that 'should' be needed is a certificate showing the titre level of the dog... proving that immunity to certain diseases is at an appropriate level to ensure the safety of that one dog and others. Very simple. -
Puppy Vacs - Straight Parvo Booster?
Cordelia replied to Bailey9's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
It won't do any harm whatsoever. If you are giving 8 (well, your breeder sould be the one giving this vaccine and then you shouldn't be taking puppy home until 10wks of age if that's the case) & 12 wks vaccs... then giving the Parvac vaccine at between 16-18wks would be a very good idea in an area kown for a high Parvo rate. I wouldn't give any vaccine higher than a C3 because I believe that it is enough for an immature immune system to deal with. If you feel the need, a C5 could be given at 12mths of age as the booster. -
in camera... yes.... but it won't do it with this troublesome card now (has done so previously without issues). When I tried it, it sort of freezes then if I wait a few minutes, I can turn the camera off. I think it's rooted.

I format the card every time I use the card. I've never had an issue with this or my other card (only a 1Gb). The files are RAW format. I've managed to get the camera to upload 3 of the pics from the 4Gb card but that's it (and it took half an hour to do that). I took that card out yesterday after another 'corrupted file' thing appeared on the LCD screen and used my 1Gb for the rest of the day and had no worries uploading the 108 pics on it. I use Zoombrowser to upload the pics from the camera and have never had a problem with it exept now with this card. With zoombrowser you have a choice to upload pics straight into zoombrowser or pick and choose which pics to upload from the card... with the issues now, it won't allow me the choice (and photoshop upload doesn't even recognise that the card exists) to pick and choose otherwise I would be able to see the pics it affects (or doesn't affect). So, it is just the card. Camera is working fine as is the other memory card. That's sort of my thinking PC.. I am not at all technically capable so i am worried about losing the pics by doing something retarded that i have no place doing. Whilst many of the pics aren't wonderful, it was my cousins first birthday so not something I can redo. It was an extra special day because it was the first time my whole family had got together after the death of my uncle a few months ago.... I'd be very sad to lose them. Thanks for the link kja.... I'll have a squizz at it tonight when I get home from work and see if I can understand it. Jo... I may take you up on the offer and post it to you if I can't figure anything out. Thanks guys. :D

I have a sandisk Extreme 4.0Gb card in my camera. I've had it for about a year or so and it's never been an issue. Took some shots about a week ago and when going through them on the camera, every 10 or so pics (on the camera) the LCD displays "corrupt data" ..... have tried to upload the pics on the card to my computer and it has uploaded 3 of them.... there are approx 50 pics still on there and some of them are bloody good shots that I desperately don't want to lose as I am unlikely to get the chance to get ones like it again and I am in a right state. Is the card screwed and my pics stuffed?? Or is there somewhere I can take the card or something I can do to make it ok again without deleting or losing my photos???
-
Wish i could, but nope. You ever do anything with that 'anti' shot (like delete it? )??
-
*sigh* I so want the 40D. :D

Loving my smugmug account too! I am a website retard so can't figure out how to make it not look like smugmug, but it doesn't irk me. I have a pro account. I don't see an issue with orders going through smugmug.... I haven't bought any of my own stuff yet but I will just to see the quality. I have a reallly good photographic printer but I may still end up using a professional print lab for pics.
-
If you are still very much a beginner... I wouldn't risk faffing about with too many settings for an action shoot..... what camera do you have?? If you have an automatic action setting... use that because you will get better quality without having to fiddle with aperture etc.... otherwise.. I use the AV setting on my Canon mostly.... only have to faff about with the aperture and everything else is sorted out by the camera.
-
Same here but I need to be able to do some basic editing without losing size or quality (that I currently lose by only shooting in JPEG. Rubition... how do you get away with not losing quality or size not shooting in RAW??? You don't edit at all?? (I honestly don't need to edit most of my shots as I like them natural looking but sometimes you get a pic that needs tweaking or I'd love to use a plug-in to change the look (convert to black/white, age the photo etc) but you lose too much quality. Now.. having said all that... saving to TIF... can I then edit a TIF file without losing size or quality??
-
hey there, Ok.. I decided to bite the bullet and do some shots in RAW. Problem I now have is that my editing program, PaintShop Pro 8 craps itself every time I try to open the file with the pics in it (one file.... has 6 jpg pics in it and 15 taken raw)... the jpgs show up and then it waits a tic... then the entire program simply shuts down (doesn't freeze or anything.. literally just closes). I have the Canon raw converter through zoombrowzer... (can't use the canon converter without opening zoombrowzer first) and can save individual pics as jpg or TIF... but... this is where I get really confused..... if i save it as a jpg (and with canon program, I can't edit it the way I want or need to as I can with paintshop pro 8) it loses quality and size..... if I save it as a TIF... the pic was 74Mb!!! (16bit) Can anyone help explain what on earth I am doing??? And why my paintshop pro shits itself trying to open raw files... and if I save something as a TIF... ugh!??? I don't get it???? Webbsites that will help explain would be lovely if possible. I really want to be able to photograph using raw format Finally.. should i seriously just get Photoshop CS(whichever number it is up to) and be done with it????

Whilst I don't mind a water bottle (I prefer to use it as a stealth tool on occasion... me hiding with it knowing someone out the back is about to dig or attack some offensive young sapling I'm trying to grow!) BUT... using aversives in training do more harm psychologically than good. A simple 'tweak' on a lead (usually attached to a check chain) isn't the same for everyone doing it. I stopped aversive/correction based training because I am too inclined to be too pushy/forceful myself and it does nothing but instill fear based teaching in a dog. Dogs can't learn in a stressful, frightening environment. Simple as that. They can learn to avoid pain, avoid fearful happenings... it isn't learning... it becomes survival and that is nothing short of psychological torture.... including a 'pop' on a check chain for the vast majority of people who don't know how to use them correctly! I used to raise a knee to dogs who jumped up.... rescuing Labradors means that it is a job hazard problem is... 2 Labs broke my tibia last year by smashing into me (twas my fault btw.. I was wrestling with them and stoppped the game faster than their brains could catch up). :D I can't use my knee to stop jumping behaviours in larger dogs these days..... I HAD to learn other methods (thankfully, I still have a tooshie that I can turn on them!... and a clicker! Clicker training is one of the most effective and fast ways to train ANY dog ANYTHING! Dogs who have been trained using aversive and correction based training often need to be retrained because they EXPECT to be corrected or punished.... watching a dog change during training from being tenative/fearful/terrified/submissive etc etc to be joyful, excited and eager is nothing short of wonderful.

A Take On The 10 Rules Of Photography Spool
Cordelia replied to Ripley's topic in Photos, Photos, Photos
hehe taking the piss out of people who photoshop the crap (literally) out of their photos and think they are great. Don't get me wrong.. some photoshopping is fantastic and it alllows for some incredible editing (as well as just fixing little things), but when you see a pic that is basicallly a rubbish shot but has been photoshopped to the hilt... you can tell and it still doesn't make it a great photo because you know the base pic was still garbage. .....says me who couldn't photoshop if her life depended on it! -
Thanks Nat! I do love the ability to disable right clicking. It's great. I've had a couple of my pics nicked and used on another website before so having that security is excellent. Haven't quite figured out the watermarking yet but will do that when I get more time. I really appreciate the advice. Thanks.

Thanks so much! I don't think my shots are generally good enough to sell through Redbubble... much as I would like to sell some I have little idea about doing it and hmm anyway lol. I think I'll go with the pro level of smugmug is easy to use and as you say Nat, being able to have private galleries etc... (those I can sell because usually it's someone who has asked me to do a photo shoot). Will have more of a squizz at Redbubble though... maybe in the future I'll learn to use photoshop, shoot in raw and get some confidence about my pics lol. Ta muchly! Edited to ask...... Do you usually reduce the size of your pics when uploading to smugmug?? Or leave them at their original size and just go have a cuppa while waiting??
-
Hi There, Just wondering if anyone uses or has used Smugmug for their photography? It looks good to me but I'm having trouble deciding what to do..... It is easy to use and people can order prints directly from the site but i can't find out (well, haven't looked that hard into it yet) how long it will take for folks to get their prints from the U.S.... Tess, I know you used to use them... do you still use them?? Help me out please?? $149 us is a decent amount but from what i can gather, it seems good for the Pro account??? Is Red Bubble better???

I have the Canon MP800... which is now about $500 I think?? I bought it when it had just been released and i adore it. Does really good prints for a home printer.. also scans slides etc. The next one up is great too but I now want the brand new canon photo printer. *sigh* it's over $2000.
