  1. the plane lands at 12 though 12.30 after collecting lugage and the dog.
  2. dose any one know of any cheep ways to get from the airport to carrum Downs?? with a dog?? all quotes are way out of my range for transport.
  3. i'm camping at the Kingston lodge, looking at the maps they are close to KCC. dogs are allowed in the park your own van or tent heance why i'm camping, the lady sounded nice on the phone. can't wate it is so close now.
  4. i'm their for the 3 days , camping with dogs is so much fun.......not. at least i have a -17 sleeping bag, getting up will be a bugger though.
  5. several options. seek a groomer and have your dogs washed and blow dried, this removes the coat well. regular brushing. ignore it and let it fill your house with fur. for you staffy cross i find a slicker works well. for the other a comb or a rake will work well. don't worry to much about the coat that is growing it will establish fast and even faster if you brush your dogs every day.
  6. please make shour they are qualified behaviourist, as a trainer may miss something small that turnes out to be somthing big
  7. if your conserned about how much water you dog is getting or isn't gettting you could try bated water. basicly keep a chicken frame after a rost or if you feed raw place aside some bones. boil the bones for 30 min strain the liquid into a bowl and toss the bones (never feed cooked bones) allow the broth to cool to room temp and then place desired amount into bowl. your dog will drink it up (hopfuly) and this will ade in his hydration. just something to try
  8. Hi Sibes can and do go down this path oftern, a young dog of mine would refuse to eat and i though about ringing the RSPCA on myself for no matter what i did the dog wouldn't eat. gradually the dog would eat off my plate untill he was eating normaly again. I would have a vet look over this dog ASAP even if it is not the "normal vet" their could be many complications the dog is going through especially sence the dog has eaten grapes in the past. i would keep the two dogs together as the pack bond in Sibes is strong and removing it's friend could do more harm then good. also think about kennel depreshion that can have these signs, try to vary the daely life of your long termers, i have seen many dogs get this around the 1 year mark. do gentail training, introduct tunnels, walk outside the kennel facilitys. where is their kennel located? is their excessive stress on the dogs ie lots of dogs comming and going that they can see, people walking past constantly try to place them in the quietese place in the kennel or better a kennel away from the mane block. Be extreemly selective with dogs that are allowed to interact with the oldies, avoide hyper dogs, your husky will try to keep up initate play however they are not well enough to play like they want to. a Husky thinks it's a pup through out life and rearly admit to slowing down and will push them selves to play. all in all GET THE DOG TO THE VET ANY VET ASAP
  9. i would find a place whear the dog hasn't gorn befor in your yard, pref whear no stry dogs have been able to get to. place the pup on the ground with the lead attached, hold the lead and follow your dog around as it explores this new area. at first the pup may just sit their and do nothing this is ok, just stand their holding the lead, eventually after a few sesions the pup will start to explore talk to the pup and incurage this, do not place any resistance on the lead follow the pup holding it. talk to the pup when it explores, say nothing when it isn't, just stand their as soon as it moves to explore something you moove and incurage. you may find it will take two or three sessions befor the pup will explore this is ok, just being in a totaly different place is good socilisation.
  10. yes full recovery........ posably a little larger then before due to the maturaty of the dog now. the implant depends on your dog for how long it lasts, it lasted longer in my dog then mentioned however all is normal now.
  11. it would be more stable then a bunji line attached to an x back harnes. for sledding your dog could probably do it, i have seen borders and many other breeds doing sledding, however a dog that will take off after a bird, roo, cat anything realy with you following on a scooter is a little dangerious. you would need to traine your dog not to chase and that may be difficult given the genetic heritage of your dog.
  12. my boy was implanted at 12 mth and the implant lasted about 16mths he has reterned to full size, just wish i had the money to implant again. i was happy with it.
  13. i would ask at your local pet supply shop, ask if they can get it in for you. also ask natropaths they may be able to do up one. i unfortunatly gained mine through PP as they where no longer stocking it and basikly gave it to me.
  14. hi i've used Paw wax protector made by 8in1 excel, and have found it very good, i have huskys and they wear their pads down a lot. i would also look at asking the vet about a zinc supliment, i know for huskys it helps their paws, but then again huskys are known to have zinc dephisancy. hop this helps.
  15. awsome work well done!! with the stand i agree with sardog and JulesP the dog is anticapating what to do, focus on your position and your body language, are you doing the same thing for a sit? feet psoition hand position, facial expreshions is she miss reading your position? a simple thing as leaning to your dog could be a signel to your dog for a position she is ment to undertake. you make me want to have Ausses
  16. some dogs will desplay an alergic reaction to pork and or chemicals contained in the meat. same as lots of dogs have a reaction to beef, i feed it and they love it, my girl gets lamb instes as she comes out in hot spots if given pork.
  17. should be ok, just don't feed to much bacon with it as the preserving salt could be bad. also make shour it is cooked to prevent hydadis. nothing different to feeding liver treets in my opinion
  18. hi. dose any one know is their is any earth dog social activatys in Canberra?? i have a client with a jack russel who could do with some work and stimulation.
  19. with the TOT have you generalised it with your dog?? have you started doing it in other places? have you followed it properly? did you just read it on the web and give it a go, or did you have some one come and show you how to do it and adapt it to sute your dog better? you say you tried check chains, have you been instructed on how critical the timing and intencity is in this form of training? i would stop go back a few steps in training and start the basic training in front of the house, perform the tot their to and gradually expand the areas for training. your dog may miss out initaly on a walk now and then but that is ok as long as it is being mentaly stimulated
  20. good on you for training your dog, don't worry about the other forum, they probably don't know some types of servaces dogs are trained this way. just make shour the dog is getting the right amount of food a day and all is good. i only wish i could do this with my dogs.
  21. i agree Tonymc. i have always been lucky enough to behome with storms and have raced outside to play with the dogs and any new dog or puppy, after the play in the rain i will sit under the verander and watch the remainder of the storm. if you catch the inital fear early and not incurage it by comferting the dog, insted show that your having fun and the dog/pup should come have fun to, their should be no problems. in saying that a dog i grew up with Jesse was a storm phobic dog. she would start acting up hours befor the storm, and hide under anything when it hits (usually a blanket). this dog was like it from birth, the por thing was born in a server thunder storm, and even with the right desencatisation method she was always like it. fire works where simuler but not as intence. i rember cracker night as a kid, going out to a creek having a BBQ and setting of crackers, the dogs would come have fun playing and running in the bush in the day, and had to be tetherd at night to stop them chasing the fire works. they loved it, we loved it their was not a problem. one dose have to rember though that their are training, behavioral, and temproment issues when getting a dog use to noises and stormes, for both human and dog.
  22. ok you will need a strap that goes down her nose like the pic above, that appears to be a very good muzzle, also it has to be farly tight when you do it up, other wise she will just pull it over her nose make shour she can pant other wise she will over heat. try looking at for dog trainers they have a good range and are farly cheep. please try to find a trainer who can show you how to place the muzzel on properly.
