 just got the pathology results back it it is good news it has clean margins YAY and the prognoses on the pathology report states removal if this tumour should have a very good out come. however it was malignant and called a Glomus Tumour with other "interesting cells" but nothing to draw conclushion on. it had started growing it's own blood suply and needless to say i'm bloody happy it is out and all i have to do is keep a close eye on him in the future.......something i always do with my dogs. thank you all for your support, it is far better knowing what it was and that it is all gorn then sitting hear wondering.

he is booked in for the 26th, as this is the earliest i can sell things to pay for it. untill then i'm trying to keep things normal, calm and not change to much, except training as he loves this........... he is the dog i've trained for my complex skills trick for NDTF to, so so so many things going through my head at the moment, it is so frustrating all i want to do is cuddle him all the time. i just keep telling myself he appears healthy, he is happy, and dosn't appear to be in great pain. their is nothing i can do right now, it's just the wating and the unknown. thank you all for the well wishes

thanks rmc when i say tight i mean tight, i live on 250 a week. this will change in a mounth or two as i have seasional problems and i prity much stop working as i'm going through it but once almost out i'm able to do things normaly.... it is just bad timing that i found it now. I will be sending it of for tests upon remoovel especialy that i think i have found 2 more small lumps :D
-
thanks CavNrott as always a lot of sence.
-
i noticed a lump on my dog about two weeks ago, it was the size of a small pea, i looked to see if it was posably a grass seed but their was no scab or any visable entry points, i was conserned and decided to watch it over a few weeks. today i had noticed it has gotten a little bigger (about a large pea size) and booked in to the vet. the vet did a nedle biopsey and it was most probably a tumer but unknown weather canserious. i have booked him in to have it removed and be desexed at the same time i was wondering if their is any thing i can give him in the mean time and any thing after the op to help prevent a reacurance. i would love to know what it is however money is so tight at the moment i cant justerfy sending it of for teasts so i will never know if it is a consern of spreding or not. i'm just relying on early detection and removel and any other things mentioned hear.

Home Alone Activities For 2 Border Collies
petmezz replied to petmezz's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Thats why i'm using kibble from their dinner, it is a low value food, these dogs are feed together and their have never been any problems, not even over bones when they acashionaly get them. however i wouldn't be using high value foods like meat and bones just in case. fighting is a real potential problem however in this situation and with thease two dogs i feal it is a small risk, though regular monetring would be required. agree 100% that is why i'm trying to perswade them to at least make the dogs life somewhat interesting, and by this releaving some of the frustration for the dogs. Yes i know the potential outcomes from this situation, rehoming is not an option at this stage though may change latter on and if so the dogs would come to me. the use of feeding through things like kongs, bottels and so forth is to help releave some of the stress that the dogs are going through. it is not ideal but it will help, small steps with this family and eventually it will be better for these dogs................ i'v got the chizel out chip chip chip slowly dose it thanks, i'm treating it like it is a client of mine, otherwise i would rip into him and get no whear the dogs don't get the mental stimulation they need and at the moment not the phisical needs (yes i know the two most important for a border) however they dog sleep inside, go for walks, are fed and are much loved. because of the dogs escaping (due to bordom) they have been placed into the garage it is very simular to being in a kennel. their are windows and reasionable ventalation. i will be talking about a kennel being bilt and potentialy an electronic containment system, however even with eather of thease i'm still conserned with the lack of stimulation. as mentioned they are workers. (petmezz thanks herself for convincing them not to get siberian huskies..........and kiks herself for not trying harder to prevent them getting borders or any other working breed) My consern is with their need to work, and lack of it being their -
Hi Just after some idears on how to entertain and tire out 2 young border collies. my brother has the two and has recently been transfered to work at a school away from town, so he is living out of town during the week and home weekends and holidays. this leaves his wife to look after the kids, dogs, birds and well kids. so i'm after some idears on how to inrich their environment and mentaly stimulate them. they are about 2 years and are working line dogs, exeptional escape artist and are typicall working breed dogs bord with nothing to do. they are locked in a dubble garage by day. What i'm thinking is to stop the family feeding the dogs out of a bowl, and all their food to be given to them in other ways, things like dry food in plastic bottles, kongs, everlasting fun balls, and boxes. is their any thing ealse (yes saving for a home alone) i could mention??

Advice From Other Instructors
petmezz replied to JulesP's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
agree with all mentioned. if it was a dog in my class i would instruct the owner to come 30min (assuming it is the standard 1 hour lession) into the lession, set up a chair well with in the dogs critical distance (you will need to instruct on this to the owner) have high reward treats redy and just sit and wate, as mentioned by pippi mark and reward any calm behaviour. after you have finished with the class ask how the dog whent, how many treats it receved, how long untill the first treat, did the dog calm down and how long did it take, keep a written record. then work with the dog for 5 to 10 min, finish on a high any high, the dogs first sit, or first look jackpot and finish. i would also talk about weelky training when walking the dog and on focus behavioures at home in all home environments (on the bed, in the bathroom, outside, befor dinner) encurage them. also talk to them about feeding, mention kongs, orbo's, everlasting treat balls, bottles, and tea towls describe to them how to use the items, and explane how benifishal it would be for the dog to get all its food given to it in these toys. Tel them how much stimulation the dog will get during the day trying to get the food. mention the dog is learning to be quiet, calm, and engaged in getting the food out of the toys, mention to give soft praise when this is happining. mention to always give a reward for being quiet and doing "nothing". Just some things to try -
How Common Is Medication Admin In Training?
petmezz replied to BJean's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
Vets get only a little bit of education about canine behaviour problems. But we get heaps of training about drugs. And you know what they say... "if the only tool in your toolbox is a hammer, everything will look like a nail..." Not saying that drugs can't be a useful tool for some severe behavioural issues, but I'd certainly be concerned with anyone recommending drugs as a first option. JMO. A Veterinary Behaviourist is a vet who has chosen to undertake ferther training in the science of animal behaviour and they have superiour knowlage of what chemical to use on say an Obsesive dog, or an agressive dog or any other seriouse problem. many of these drugs are used in the human world and are slowly being tested and incorporated for our dogs. as with all medical things a vet can and dose choose to go in spcific specalised feldes, i recently asked a veterinary Behaviourist what would he recomend for an ichy dog............. his reply was something like "i practice the science of behaviour identfication and treatment i wouldn't know what to recomend except go and see your local vet who chose to work that feild" i agree that vets shouldn't be giving out advice on behaviour problems given their such little training, they should be refering to trained people these cases. however in saying that i will send a lot of my clients to the vet for tests and a check up as some times unusual behaviour is relaed to a phisical problem with the dog (child placed pencil down dogs ear and dog suddnly dosn't like child and growls at child for instance). both general pratice vets (small animal vets) and veterinary behaviourist have a big role to fill in determaning problems and they should not be confused with one and other -

mixed with food it is eatin ok i find if i mix the dose with meat they are happy. I use the one for skin alergies and havn't had an issue -
i have one myself, the dogs seem to not be interested in it, may be because they have been trained not to pull on clothing and the one i have would be simular to the jumper material of clothing. i would look at for dog trainers to find definate tug motervaters for your dog. they are cheep and servace is good.

Recall Command For A Husky.
petmezz replied to ~*Shell*~'s topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
how well bonded is the sibe to you?? i have found the best way is to have a line about 6m attached to you and the dog, gain the dogs attention and focus through known comands and reward with high value treats, as soon as the sib looks the other way turn and run calling the dog in an excited tone, mack it out their is some thing of great interest that your running to, praise the dog for following you and stop when it's attention is on you get the sit and reward. the running is a reward for the dog, your praise is a reward and getting the treat is a reward, i would also mention giving lots of praise with the treat = yet another reward. i would do this once or twice and then leave it untill next time, the thing that makes sibes so hard to train is thay bore easily, all training needs to stop when your dog still wants to do more, you need to stop with a high leavel of excitment/drive. if you don't do this you will be weakining the behaviour, and the value of the treats and creat an unmotivated dog. keep training short, when i started training my sibes i would train for 2 min then have some fun 20min later i would train for another 2 min and have fun. this worked well for my siberians. Good luck -
vidio camera and a remote training coller, eather a pager or a e coller. set up the camera so you can catch the dog who is doing it, creat a close circit tv system and when your in the other room watching the dogs on the camera use the remote to issue a punishment to the problem dog. don't make a fuss when you go out and ignor the dog.
