Kovu would slice himself to itty bitty pieces working out a way to get into the run. The dog is a nutcase, a lovely nutcase

I think it depends on the dog really. I don't have chickens, and as much as I LOVE LOVE LOVE chickens I couldn't have them while I still have Kovu because no amount or training or time would have him stop barking at them and wanting to chase and catch them. I think Daegon would get used to them, but Kovu no way.

So sorry persephone :D RIP gorgeous old boy

The vet I used to go to charged just the one consultation. They did this even when I took in 2 dogs and 4 cats. I got charged for 1 consult and just the individual work (they were all getting vaccinated, wormed and one dog microchipped).

Help And Advice For Comet - Urget

Oh that is awful, I'm so sorry RIP Comet I hope your dogs will be OK, what a worry. -
WTF?! My god

I'm glad she is back home with you where she belongs for Christmas

The vet feels that the skin condition is the result of an immune mediated disease. He has had biopsies done, along with everything else, today and we'll get the results back in the new year. Poor boy is still pretty dopey, sore and sorry for himself. He's resting up in his crate for now. I hope that he's feeling better for Christmas turkey and vegies tomorrow

I cannot cut his nails today, I don't have anything to do them with, my dogs seem to wear theirs down quite well. Even if I did, I would not attempt to cut the nails of a dog I don't know. He doesn't appear to be itchy. I haven't seen him scratch, I haven't seen him licking at either his lips or his feet I was told he licks his feet a lot, but even though he was inside from about 6pm last night I haven't seen him do it. Every time I check on him through the window outside he's not licking either, just seems to be enjoying the sun and the breeze. I will be so glad to get him seen tomorrow, poor guy must be so uncomfortable with those nails

I have no idea what has happened to his face, it's not my dog. I picked him up yesterday from people who no longer wanted him. He is booked in to see the vet tomorrow, I had to wait for funds to be able to pay before I could book him in. He'll be getting all his work done tomorrow and then I'll be able to treat him here at home with whatever the vet feels he needs after a skin scraping. Thanks for the ideas, will talk to the vet about those possibilities tomorrow

Thanks Rottifan His back looks OK to me. He is limping on his front right foot and I think that's likely to be caused by the very long nails. He's also very settled and seems quite comfortable laying about. I'm just hoping he's toilet trained, and holds on overnight, or else we'll be making a middle of the night dash outside

I have a Siberian Husky here for a couple of weeks before he moves on to Canberra. He's off to the vet as soon as it can be organised, but thought I'd post here and see if anyone has any idea what this skin condition might be by looking at it, or if there's anything I can do to help him between now and when he sees the vet. I've been told he licks at his feet a lot, although I have to say I haven't seen him do that at all since he's been here. He's fast asleep in a crate in my room at the moment (stinking it out, so not used to smelly dogs!). His nails are so terrible, poor guy

Thanks for all the replies, it is much appreciated Interesting SR that you've seen it on your dogs as well! The vet did say the second she felt it, 'oh, that's soft tissue!' so I'm feeling a lot more confident, especially after seeing your reply, that it is just Daegon's hard playing causing some kind of fluid build up or something similar. The vet said she was quite confident that was the case, especially given that it is on both legs in the same spot, she said it was extremely rare to get 'matching' tumours. I think I'll take the ball from him for a little while and see what happens. He will be so miserable without his ball though, he just loves it.
-
Daegon is 5 1/2. Can they do the aspiration without anesthetic? I think she was wanting to do it under a full anesthetic. It just seems like a lot to put poor Daegon through when it's probably overkill. Daegon is quite nervy at the vets, the only place he's not full of himself. Perhaps that's why she wanted him anesthetised.
-
Thanks He has a lump on the other side in the pretty much exact same place, it's a bit smaller though. I'm pretty sure that it's like the vet said and from him always bashing his ball around, especially given it's on both sides in the same spot. I do want to get it looked at though, as well as the sun spots on his tummy.
-
I could see Daegon in a stack hat and knee pads So not the x-rays, just go straight for the aspiration you think?
-
Yes, it was quite a sigh of relief!! Yep, umming and aahing about what to do. I don't have that much money at the moment, so it wont be able to be done on Tuesday. The vet said she was confident it wasn't anything to worry about, but I know I will still worry So yes, not too sure where to go from here really.
-
The vet feels that it's a soft tissue issue. She said it's most likely from him playing so hard and long with the ball that it's a body response to wear and tear. She still wants to take x-rays and said she would do a aspiration of the areas to be completely sure. She was also going to take biopsies of a few skin tag type things that Daegon has had come up on his tummy (he likes to sun himself), but feels that they're probably not something to be overly concerned about but that they might remove them. I made an appointment to have this all done on Tuesday and then asked for an estimate of how much it would be. I was told $750. Wasn't quite expecting that! There are many people here far more experienced with this kind of thing that I am, does all this seem necessary? If it is, I will find a way to get it done ASAP, but I also don't want to go overboard and no only put my dog through an anesthetic (which always carries some risk), or burn a rather large hole in my bank account if it's not really needed. Opinions?

We're leaving now. I don't think I can take this with another one :D

Daegon has had a lump come up on his lower leg joint, it looks big and knobbly. He has limped for a little bit before it popped up and now I'm very concerned that it may be osteosarcoma. He's off to the vet in a couple of hours to get checked out, and then if the vet feels the need for an x-ray that will happen on Tuesday. He plays with a big hard ball a LOT, he will kick it around with his legs for many hours during the day. Is it possible that he's caused some kind of build up from hitting his leg on the ball so much? I guess I'm probably grasping at straws here, I just don't know how I will cope if I lose another dog to this awful cancer :D

So sorry for your loss :D RIP Harry
