Thanks for all the info guys. I get paid tomorrow so will go in search of glucosamine. I'm a little worried about adding calcium as overdosing can cause more problems. Does anyone have any information on perhaps how much I should add to his feeds and how often? I would hate to do something wrong. I will try raising his bowl, and keep an eye on him for bloat.
-
Will do, thanks
-
Oh gawd, I'm paranoid about bloat as it is...not sure what I should do there

Daegon is fed on the floor...I keep meaning to find something to raise his bowl with, will look for something tonight before I feed him. I never had a problem with my shepherd's feet so this is all a bit new. Thanks for the tips guys, if raising his bowl doesn't work I'll get onto the other suggestions

Yep, he's still teething at the moment, poor boy. Parent's feet were both OK, father's were better than mothers. Where do I get glucosamine and vit c for him from, just a health food store?? Also, roughly how much does it cost so I can be prepared Thanks guys, wish there were a beach here I could walk him on.

Yes, Daegon is from a registered breeder...one I cannot get in contact with He is eating both supercoat puppy with pet mince and chicken wings. Also he's both inside and outside, so on firm surfaces. I'll try getting in contact with the breeder AGAIN...thanks guys

My 5 month old Rotty's front feet are beginning to splay, and I've been told this can be caused by them being overweight...but he's not. Any other reasons and is there anything I can do about it?

I'm so very sorry to read this, how incredibly sad The warmer months are such a worry with outdoor animals, even in the suburbs you can get snakes living in the backyard. What a horrible thing to have happen to your baby. How terrible too that the vet on call did not answer the phone, that would make me very angry. Hugs to you and your family

Oh that is so sad, I'm so very sorry

Sorry to hear that Kiwigirl
-
Glad to hear he seems to be OK
-
Oh no, I do hope that he will be OK

My dogs are the same...I have two water bowls outside and one inside and they're forever tipping the outside ones over and playing with them and I'm worried they wont have enough water during summer while I'm not at home. When I've got some money I'm looking at getting a sensor thing put on my tap outside...when the dogs come close to the tap it turns on so they can drink, and when they've had enough and move away it turns off again. I think they're made by Innotek, not sure how much though, I need to find the magazine again so I can order one for my two.

Health: Is This What They Call "snow Nose"?
shekhina replied to Merlin01's topic in Health / Nutrition / Grooming
Hmm...I would say if you have your heart set on the dog then just make sure you're very strict with applying sun cream to his nose every day. Is this puppy from a registered breeder? -
It seems to be different on the mainland, but here in Tasmania the usual is a C3, unless you're boarding them. Also, I will not be vaccinating mine every year. Once they are 3 years old I will leave the vaccination to every 2nd or 3rd year. I don't know that you would even need to vaccinate an 11 year old, I guess it depends. But mine wont be being done every year that's for sure. I've not heard about the increase in cancer rates, but then I don't give a C5. Hope others here can give you more information than I can.

I have one dog with front dew clews and one without. It definately looks better to have them removed and I would say better safe than sorry but so far (touchwood) my dog with dew claws hasn't had a problem. Both dogs have their backs ones off though.

I'm hoping to use RC but geez it's expensive...am gonna have to save my pennies for that one

Thanks! Yep, I am VERY relieved that he is finally eating, and very happy that he seems to be interested in a really good kibble as well. He's chosen a good time to start eating because he's going through a rather large growth spurt at the moment. Will be gradually switching him onto mainly Royal Canin when I can get my hands on some, while still feeding him the mince he likes as well

Help - Pup Ate My Contraceptive Pill!

Yep, I looked it up too after you mentioned to use it I'm unlikely to have that stuff lying around the house anyways, so it'll be heaps of salt for me -

I really don't know that it will have much of an effect on your dog, if any. It's only got hormones in them. Still, if you're worried you could always call another vet and ask them. Inducing vomitting with Hydrogen Peroxide? I haven't heard that one, I've always been told pour salt down their throats -
Interesting that Dante was standoffish and nasty when you first got her as well! I wonder why they were both like that? Anyways, we've obviously done well with them, creating little snuggly bums Daegon has no aggression with food, or anything else. If the cats want Daegon's dinner he stands back and lets them eat first so I have to lock the cats away. My lot have always been like that, Kovu lets the cats eat some of his dinner before he touches it as well. Not sure what Daegon weighs at the moment, but he's looking much better than he did and has grown quite a bit over the last week. Finally had his ears glued, but I've taken it off because one wasn't sitting properly, will re-do them tonight. The gluing has already made a huge difference, he looks completely different. Yes, we must exchange photos, I need to get new batteries for the camera first though

I'm very proud of him too. I've actually found I've bonded a lot better with him over the past week than I have over the entire time I've had him. Probably because I'm a LOT less stressed about him refusing to eat now.

Hey, thanks for the positive comments guys. I too agree that right now Daegon should just enjoy meal times. Am pleased to say he is back on to the great pet mince I'm able to get which is another really good step for him. Since he's been eating he has grown quite a bit which is also nice to see, and he seems happier which is great. HH, I've contact Di for some more info on Royal Canin, pricing and such. When I got it out of the packet I knew he was going to at least try it, it's actually moist and smells, unlike that Eukanuba which is very dry. He still prefers the meat but he's at least interested in it which is great. When I'm able to go and get some (big dog food bags and buses don't mix!) I'll start by mixing it in with the mince and some egg to get him used to it. As for the supermarket dog food roll, I didn't get the VIP brand, I got Platinum. It actually didn't look like the absolute worst thing in the world, will be a nice treat for both dogs occasionally anyways...can't feed them premium food all the time, I certainly like my chocolate every now and then Ellz, if you're still gonna go on the factory tour I'm happy to tag along, might be quite interesting. Will just make sure I catch a cold first so that I can't breathe through my nose and smell anything revolting Pandii, Daegon is also starting to look like he's gonna be a bulky guy...and SUCH a snuggle bum! Which I'm happy about, because for the first couple of weeks I was wondering why on earth I got him, he was SO naughty, and actually seemed rather nasty. However now he's a little happy angel who likes his snuggles Must say it's nice to finally see some positive responses to Daegon's eating, thanks again

My thoughts exactly

Thanks Shandy, but don't worry it's not something that's likely to be fed to him again, I just didn't have any other dog food last night and the butcher was closed. Hopefully off to the butcher tomorrow to get some more mince and things
