  1. There was a thread on here showing video clips of dogs in training, Dobermanns I think they were. One video in particular was just beautiful, a dog heeling in the snow and was totally glued to the handlers side. How do you teach your dog to heel this closely? My GSD in particular has a VERY high prey drive and I'm hoping that's a good thing for teaching good heeling, although finding something he likes more than cats or other dogs could prove a challenge ;) I would love to get him to heel like that, but I'm not sure where to start. Somebody I think mentioned on the thread that they are trained with some kind of stick by their side to help keep them so close, anybody know?
  2. Another for the emergency vet, hope she will be OK ;)
  3. I suggest you take the advice of the people here...one is a breeder and one has owned this breed for many years, I think they know what they're talking about ;)
  4. I had a similar problem with Daegon when he was quite young, very very stubborn. And that's exactly what it was, he was just being stubborn. I tried lots of different things, but in the end what worked was giving him what I wanted him to eat at his meal times and then picking it up after 10-15 minutes, eaten or not. He soon learnt that not eating when I give it to him means he will go hungry ;) It was a worry, because when they're young they seem to get so incredibly skinny so fast! He starved himself for 5 days and has been a fantastic eater since
  5. I can't help with this sorry, I haven't had to go through this experience yet thank the gods I'm sure in the morning when more people are online somebody will be able to help you

You gave him a wonderful life Kaye, and there doesn't have to be any "excuse" for writing about missing your boy.
  7. What a ripe old age they both lived to! A life full of love I'm sure

  9. Sorry to hear this Stari
  10. I feed Bonnie Working Dog as dry food, chicken wings/frames and raw mince that has vegies and stuff through it.
  11. So sorry MM What a good life he must have led though
  12. Bird flu hasn't come into Australia yet, so I wouldn't be panicking about that just yet. There's not much you can do except try and keep him hydrated and get him back to a vet. Has anything come back from the test results?

  14. Hope you got the dog to a vet and she's doing OK :D
  15. Geez, things really aren't letting up for you guys I really hope that whatever it comes back as it's easy to treat and he'll be on his way to full health again soon ;)
  16. Free pick up and delivery would be fantastic! It's really hard getting to do anything with dogs when you don't have transport. I would love for someone to bath and groom my dogs for a price I could afford, but I can't get anywhere, so it makes it virtually impossible. The main thing I always look for with anything to do with my dogs is can that person do the job and is that person going to great my dogs the way I expect them to be treated. If yes to both and it's a fair price (and something great like free pick up and delivery) then that's the person I'd go with.
  17. I would choose a mobile type, mainly because I don't have my own transport. Would also much prefer somebody with all that experience.
  18. It's so awful when our furry friends are sick, such a worry :D I hope that he is back to his normal self soon ;)
  19. I will be thinking of you at this time. You have absolutely made the right decision for your girl and showing her how much you truly love her by taking her pain away.
  20. I hope that she will be OK. What a terribly distressing time for you
  21. So sorry Greytmate RIP Sam
