An update from the vet today... he still seems to think that the wound will heal and close over on it's own Kovu is going to be getting a few more days of anti-biotics, just to make sure it is totally cleared, and if it doesn't heal up within a couple of weeks they're going to put staples in to help it along. Great news for Kovu, and I can breathe a huge sigh of relief that he doesn't have to be at risk under anesthetic

How very strange Main thing is she's OK!

I don't have a camera, I'm borrowing one from my mother tomorrow, the infection has pretty much cleared so it's not as gory as it was I'm having one of the dog rangers come out here on Thursday as I have a note from the vet, which I will be photocopying before I hand it over as well as the current vet bill which is $60. Will be calling the vet tomorrow and discussing an operation as Nadia has said the skin will most likely need to be removed, I would imagine anesthetic costs and the operation to be around $150 or more? I sure hope I don't have to pay all that, because I can't exactly afford that right now, luckily my vets are very good and should put it on an account for me should this guy not have to pay up

Glad to hear she's doing better ;) Thanks for the update.

Any news today Rozzie?? I hope she's OK ;)

I'm just doing what the vet said to do, they wanted to give it a chance to heal, but that was when it was still attached. The infection is clearing up really fast which is good for Kovu at least. I'll give them a call tomorrow and will have to take him in again for the op I guess. And then I'm going to go and kick this guy in the nuts.

Nadia, it's from the top lip on the side. I am so pissed off about this, I have been trying to get the council to do something about those dogs for months now ;)

I wanna start clicker training now so I have an excuse to eat smarties

I have 5 cats and 2 dogs. When I introduced my dogs to cats or cats to dogs I kept the dog in a crate and let the cats go and sniff the dog on their own terms. My cats are all very accepting of new additions to the household so not much bothers them, 3 of them welcome strange animals with a smooch as soon as they walk in the door the other two would take a little longer as they're more aloof. Main thing is time really, it'll take time for them to become used to each other. Make sure the cats have got somewhere safe to go and get away from the dog whenever they want it, let them have somewhere they can jump up where the dog can't reach them for example. 1 year old isn't too old to accept a puppy, I don't think any age is too old if you let the cat have it's space if it needs it, my cats were aged up to 4 years old with the last introduction to a puppy, 4 of the cats love my dogs and one of them doesn't, but that cat doesn't really like people either, just the way he is.

I hardly think he will sugar, means I will be paying it off for months

Yeah, I'm trying not to worry, it's just so annoying because if this guy kept his dogs under control it wouldn't have happened in the first place.

Yes, I asked about stitching and the vet said it couldn't be done because of the infection. Looks like I'll have to wait for the infection to clear and then hopefully have him stitched up. There goes a whole bunch of money for anesthetic. So pissed of with that frigging guy's dogs, my poor Kovu

A bit of what? I did ask the vet while I was in there yesterday what was going to be done, and he thought it would heal on it's own, but that was while it was still attached at both ends, now I'm worried that it wont because it's only attached at one end. He seems to be feeling a bit better this afternoon, not as miserable, so hopefully the anti-biotics are helping to clean it up a bit.

He looks great! Bet he's happy to have a furry friend too

Yes, photos are a must

That's fantastic news, so glad to hear it! I bet Frodo is much happier now too

As some of you might know Kovu was bitten quite badly by one of the dogs from over the back fence. Yesterday I took him to the vet as it was badly infected dispite being flushed out a few times a day with salty water. He was given anti-biotics and I hope they'll clear him up otherwise he'll need to be operated on The problem is, yesterday when he went to the vet, the lip had a hole in it, but it was still joined at both ends, if you know what I mean...but now it's only hanging on by one end. He's been crated to rest as he has a temperature as well so he must have done it to himself Is this going to make healing impossible? I'm worried that because it's now hanging off the skin wont repair correctly and he'll end up with a rather crooked lip. He probably wont be too fussed about it, but it wont look too pretty and I'd like to save it if possible. Any thoughts? I can get a photo if that helps

Wonderful news that he's doing so well! Shame about yourself though, hope you feel better soon

Thanks for that! I am wanting my dogs to watch me the whole time as I'd like to trial them both, I'm surprised that the Rotty is doing better than the GSD actually

No, he don't have approval, you cannot get approval in my area unless you are a registered breeder. The council know about his dogs, but they don't seem to be doing anything about it. -
I also have a question...how long does the dog need to look at you? I have been using this program with my two boys, Kovu has been doing this since he was pretty much 10 weeks old, but I've found that Daegon is much more solid in watching me, where as Kovu will look at me, look at the food then look back at me, Daegon will now just look straight to me as soon as the bowl is on the ground, so I say "yes" and he will not take his eyes off me until I say "ok". Is this right?? I want competition level with BOTH dogs...so how do I get Kovu to JUST look at me and not the food? I am not using the tie out anymore, neither of my dogs have EVER had a whinging problem if I need to leave them tied for a few minutes, and neither will move towards their food till I say it's OK anyways. And, sorry... Where do you put the food when you're increasing distance? On the ground right in front of the dog or halfway between me and the dog?

The dogs cannot see through the fence, so it's not a matter of blocking their view because they don't have a view to block. And I can't see that you're missing anything Lablover...my dogs are both inside and outside during the day, inside at night. Each time my two bark at the fence I call them off and they stop. But the dogs over the other side of the fence keep barking and barking and jumping and barking some more until Kovu gets the shits with them and start barking again, so I call him off again etc etc etc. I will definitely try the hose thing for the dogs over the otherside, it wont work for mine because if I go outside they stop and run over to me, no matter how quiet I try and be, but if it stops the neighbour's dogs from barking that will stop the problem altogether. -

The limit in my area is two dogs with no kennel licenses given out to anyone who isn't a registered breeder, so he would need to get rid of three dogs. The council already know I think, I called them to see whether anything could be done about the fencing because his dogs keep escaping and coming into my yard or wandering around the streets. The dog ranger saw how many dogs were in the yard but they're all still there. I don't want the guy getting into trouble for anything, or having to get rid of dogs, I just want my guys to be safe in their own yard and a little less barking from over the fence would be rather nice too. -

Hmm, I did post in here earlier but it seems to have wandered off... I can't block that area of the yard, I can however attach more wiring from my electric wire around the top of the fence to the bottom of that section so it will at least keep my two that little bit further away and wary of the area. If that doesn't work I'm going to start getting pissed off. Ever since I moved here that guy's dogs have caused SO much trouble and I'm always the one trying to fix it -

Well, that could prove to be rather theraputic for me, standing at the fence with the hose getting my revenge on the little monster Except I highly doubt the hose will reach that far, and I don't think a spray bottle is gonna deter this guy. He's only been here about a week and he's gotta be going nuts in a tiny yard with 4 other yappers
