Arr, I SO want to! This is something I'd really like to do with both of my boys but I haven't been able to start any training yet because I don't have a blasted bike pump

Teaching "take" And "give" Or "hold" A D
shekhina replied to bridgie_cat's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I have just started the retrieve training tonight and now I can't hide the dowling piece well enough to get Daegon to leave it alone He is such a fast learner and after just 2 minutes will "hold it" and watch me until I say "out" and he gives it back. What is the next step? He will chase after toys, but depending on his mood he will not bring them back. After hearing how many dogs fail to move up the levels of obedience because of the retrieve I absolutely want to make sure I get it right. I do not clicker train, but I can bring a verbal marker into the training instead. -
I use the human stuff, I think it's called Nutralife or something similar. It is a powdered form of Glucoasmine/MSM/Condroiton.

Good luck!

Have contacted you about a breeder with pups around that time, good luck!
-
Two pups together can be a handful, but if you're willing to train them separately then good luck. Be aware that the pups may bond better with each other than with you. As for playing with older dogs, make sure you're there to supervise. When I brought my Rotty pup home to a 3 year old German Shepherd Dog I didn't let them play together until the Rotty was around 4-5 months old, and even then it was still supervised. You really need to protect their joints and rough and tumble play could be disasterous.

I used the mink oil spray and it was great.

Well his real name was Sebastian, but the dog was a nutter...in a good way, so everyone called him Spaz

Good luck teaching her! A dog of mine years ago used to do the recycling...he LOVED it, couldn't wait for me to be done with something so he could take it to the bin the loony. He used to love it so much when I took him for walks he would try to pick the rubbish up on the side of the street...he'd get one thing and carry it all the way home and put it in the bin outside before he went in. Smart boy! His name was Spaz

There will be photos as soon as it gets here and I have new batteries  -
That's why I've never bothered to give mine anything higher than a C3, they don't get boarded where it's necessary so why bother

Oh wow!!! Thank you so much to everyone who voted for my baby Kovu! (Proud mother speech :p) Have had a quick looky at the website and it'll mean a brand new lead for Kovu, a new show lead for Daegon and a nice chamois towel for my poor house Is that OK to go over the $100 and I just direct deposit the rest K9? -
Can't do much about the dogs who aren't showing symptoms yet. Daegon isn't vaccinated for KC either, he's only got a C3 which is a month late in being updated actually...must get that done as soon as I can get to the vet.

Why not?
-
Why don't you leave the dog outside while you're at work seems it's still making so much mess? :p
-
Please get your dogs desexed. They are cross-breeds and you are not a registered breeder. It is dangerous for dogs to give birth, many have complications and even die. The very best thing you can do for your dogs is to have them all de-sexed. Good luck with your new puppy

Prey Drive Control & Focus..
shekhina replied to Steve K9Pro's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
I am annoyed at the moment because Kovu and I SHOULD be moving into the next stage of the program...but one of my neighbours dogs from over the back are making it near impossible. Once again his bitch is getting into my yard (I think he may have fixed the fence last night) but they're starting their retarded barking all day now, and it's wearing Kovu down. The drop in drive is quite evident -

Teaching A Dog Not To Sniff The Ground
shekhina replied to shekhina's topic in Training / Obedience / Dog Sports
thanks LL. He's definitely just being naughty and wants to smell everything, no stressing signs at all. Will just go back to basics with him in that particular area He did me proud today though and didn't sniff the ground at all during his stays...perfect stays. Passed his grade 2 exam with a 92, so proud :p -
Teaching A Dog Not To Sniff The Ground

Thanks for replying. I've tried something under his nose as suggested by one of the trainers at the club but it didn't work I have tried asking for his attention and that works for the sit stay, or heeling etc. but not down stay, the ground is unbelievably smelly Will go back to the beginning AGAIN with him on the ground and correct him if he sniffs...hopefully he'll just sit really still today for me, just this once
